THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  1864- Rebecca Lee Crumpler becomes the first Black woman to earn a medical degree by
graduating from the New England Female Medical College.

AP students: AP exams are now on sale at the web store only. If you are in need of financial assistance, please contact
your counselor immediately.

SENIORS:  If you're planning to attend UCD, have a minimum GPA of 3.5, and you worked at a job during high school,
you may qualify for the $13,921 Beeghly-Merritt Scholarship!  The deadline to apply is April 3!  Applications are now
available in the Career Center.

Want to be more than just an ordinary DHS student?  Become a yerd by joining the 2016 yearbook staff.  Applications
are available in P-21 and are due March 6th.  Mr. Achimore at dachimore at djusd.net with any questions.

The DHS Yearbook wants to hear from you!  Please take one minute to respond to the School Loop message from Mr.
Achimore which contains an important school-wide survey.

Hey DHS! The LEAD Class is dedicated to making our school a better place for everybody and part of our efforts is peer
counseling.  We are friendly caring peers ready to help you through difficult times.  If you need a shoulder to lean on,
please come by L-23 to make a confidential appointment.

TODAY:  It's FFA Week! Come on out to the quad for chicken races today, a Piñata tomorrow, Name That Veggie on
Thursday and our fundraiser 'Kiss the Pig' on Friday!  Don't forget to donate to your favorite teacher and come out to
watch them kiss the pig!

Hello CSFers!  Registration for the spring semester is this week at lunch in P-13.  The deadline to apply is February 27th.
Please bring your last semester report card, the pink sheet, $5 and a green sheet if you are an active, returning member.

ACADEMICS/CAREERS/OPPORTUNITIES:  The Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Club (SISTEM) is
hosting a guest speaker this Friday, February 27th during lunch in Room N-7.  Come and hear Kathryn Cook, a former
DHS student and a systems engineer and project manager at Boeing speak about her career!

Please join the Healthcare Careers Club in the Career Center at lunch on Wednesday, February 25 to hear Dr. Jessica
Cerniak talk about careers in Psychology.  See you in the Career Center at lunch on Wednesday!

Job Opportunity: The City of Davis has two part-time summer jobs available in their aquatics department for a lifeguard
and a swim instructor. Come to the Career Center for a more information and a flyer for each job.

This is National Engineers week! UCD Engineering students want to celebrate by hosting an Engineering event at our
school on Wednesday, February 25 at lunch on the quad.  The event will showcase student engineering projects and
demonstrate various career opportunities in Chemical, Electrical, Civil, Bio Systems and Biomedical Engineering.   If you
are interested in Engineering, come to the quad at lunch on Wednesday!

SENIORS:  March 2 is the deadline to apply for federal and state financial aid for college.  Don't miss out on getting free
money for college!  If you have any questions about completing financial aid applications, come to the Career Center this
week!

SENIORS:  It's scholarship time! If you would like free money for college, then you should apply for scholarships! Twenty-
six local scholarships are now available for seniors graduating from a Davis high school.  You can find these local
scholarships and many more in the Career Center's Scholarship Bulletin or on Naviance.  Come to the Career Center to
apply for the many scholarships now available!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:  The City of Davis invites you to participate in their upcoming CHIP-IN! Volunteer Clean-Up
Day on Saturday, February 28 from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm at one of three local parks.  Volunteer activities include picking
up trash, raking leaves, spreading wood chips and more!  Come to the Career Center for more information.

The Hub needs new photographers, graphic designers, business managers and a Director of Community Engagement for
next year's staff.  If interested in any of these positions, applications are available on the door of O-1.  Applications are
due this Friday.

Applications are available for the Youth in Government program, an exciting opportunity for high school students to
shadow local government officials in the City of Davis and Yolo County.  Applications are in Room C-9 and are due on
March 4th.

CLUBS/EVENTS:  Hey Key Clubbers!  Our next meeting is this coming Wednesday, February 25 in Room S-12 at lunch!
  Stop by and sign up for projects and grab some food!  See you there!

National Honors Society registration is taking place next week in room S-12 until Friday, February 27th. Bring $5.00 and
your school ID to register.

The Davis Homeless Shelter is in need of winter supplies for the cold season.  Non-perishable foods, soaps and
shampoos, as well as gently used winter clothing are being collected in a donation bin inside the front office.  Anything
helps!
