Interested in playing Boys Basketball and aren't currently playing a Fall sport?  Come check out the Boys
Basketball optional workouts which are being held Wed-Thurs from 4:00-6:00 in the North Gym.  Fall
workouts are not mandatory to try out for the team this Winter.  For more information, see Coach
Gonzalez in DHS Room T-06.

Attention athletes...there is still time to join the Blue Devil Football teams! If you are interested, you can
speak with Coach Brown on the DHS campus or email Varsity Head Coach John Wiley at
wiley7927 at yahoo.com  Practices are held Mon-Thurs from 5:30-7:30pm. Sports paperwork needs to be
submitted to the Athletics Office prior to participation. Come join the Blue Devil team!

INDEPENDENT LIFE SPORTS: Attention all students who are enrolled in Independent Lifetime Sports for
your FALL SPORT: This week through Friday, Independent Lifetime sports Applications will be available
for pick-up:  Stop by the small gym, at the beginning of 7th period and see either Mr. Ariola or Ms.
Crawford to pick up your Independent Lifetime Sports Application.  You must pick up, fill out, and return
this Application before receiving the course packet of information.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:  The DHS Council is looking for dedicated students to join our committee.
The Site Council consists of Principal Brown, staff, parents and students.   The Site Council discusses
ways to improve student achievement and supports new programs at its monthly meetings.  If you
would like to help shape the future of our school, please pick up an application from Vice Principal
McHale in the office by Tuesday, September 9.  Applications are due by noon on Wednesday, September
10.

Event and information posting are to be posted on BLUE WALLS ONLY! Not blue doors, garbage cans,
drink machines, restrooms but blue walls ONLY! Thank you for your cooperation!

Please place recycle materials in proper containers which are the cardboard bins near the trash
dumpster.  If you don't know where, ask somebody.  Davis Waste Removal will not dump containers
with improper materials in them.

TODAY: Quiz Bowl question of the day!  What philosopher declared that every human has the natural
rights to "life, liberty and property?"  If you enjoy competitive trivia like jeopardy, come to a Quiz Bowl
informational meeting today in S-7 at lunch.

ACADEMICS: INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY:  Congressman John Garamendi's office is offering an eight
week Student Activist Campaign Internship Program for high school students.  Interns will participate in
community outreach and plan campaign events.  Come to the Career Center on Monday, September 8
at lunch to hear a Garamendi representative describe the internship program and to sign up!

Davis Senior High School's Career Center is open!  The Career Center provides support and resources for
college planning, scholarships, financial aid, jobs, volunteer opportunities, summer activities, test
preparation, study abroad programs, and more!  Students and parents are welcome to visit the Career
Center located behind the theater Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

It's college visit time!  College visits begin in the Career Center on Monday September 8!  Dates and
times of college visits are posted outside the Career Center and on Naviance.  Students must sign up on
Naviance prior to attending a college visit, and must check in with their teacher before leaving class to
attend a visit.  Come to the Career Center if you need help with Naviance!

CLUBS/EVENTS:  Let's go clubbing!  New and continuing club applications are available on the student
government website and in C-4.  They are due back in C-4 by Friday, September 12th.  If you have
questions about starting a club, come to C-4 at lunch on Wednesday, September 10th.

Sophomores!  If you are interested in building the Sophomore float for the Homecoming Parade, we will
have an informational meeting on Friday, September 5th at lunchtime in Room C-4!

You are invited to the introductory meeting of the Model United Nations Club.  Please come to P-25 next
Tuesday, September 9th at lunch.  This club looks at international events and problems.  As a team, we
act as diplomats at conferences around the state where UN topics are debated.

Our very first festival of the school year, the Chinese Moon Festival is coming up on Monday, September
8.  Come to the Quad at lunchtime and join the Chinese Club for games, prizes and information for new officer elections.


The Gay-Straight Alliance will have the first gathering of the year this Friday at lunch in L-28, Mr.
Wheeler's classroom.  An element of GSA is to create safe environments in schools for students to
support each other and learn about homophobia, transphobia, and other oppressions.  All Blue Devils
are welcome to attend.

Hey Seniors! Want to help plan the float for the Homecoming parade?  Stop by Mr. Achimore's room,
P21, Friday at lunch for a float building meeting and treats!

Attention all DHS instrumental soloists:  The annual DHS Orchestra Concerto Competition traditionally
held in January will instead be held on Wednesday, November 19th 2014 at 7:00pm on stage in the DHS
Brunelle Performance Hall. It is open to all DHS instrumentalists and free to the public to view. The
competition winner will be given the honor of performing with the DHS Symphony Orchestra at the
Mondavi Center in Jackson Hall at the Wennberg Music Festival on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at
2:30pm as well as a check for $300.00. A sign-up sheet and informational flyer will be posted in early
September on the window of the computer lab in PA-3. It is important to start to plan for this event now
and begin preparing your solos ASAP.  Email Mr. Moreno if you have questions at amoreno at djusd.net
