TODAY:    Today is the deadline for submitting items for the November 2014 DHS PTA Newsletter to
DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org.  Be sure to include your or your teacher's name and contact information.

ACADEMICS: CAHSEE make-ups for 11th /12th graders is Tuesday, 11/4 for ELA, and Wednesday, 11/5 for Math.
Students who have received a CAHSEE make-up notice, please return the bottom portion to the Testing Coordinator. If
you have a passing score from another school, please bring that proof in to update our records.

Are you interested in attending Sac City College?  If so, Sac City is hosting a Preview Night on Thursday, October 30th
from 5:00 - 7:30.  Come to the event to learn about degree and certificate programs, financial aid, getting into
community college and take a tour of the Sacramento campus.  Come to the Career Center for more information

MISCELLANEOUS:  DO YOU VOLUNTEER?  Girls ages 14 to 17, with a strong volunteer project are encouraged to apply
for the Violet Richardson Award, a $1,000 grant from Soroptimist International of Davis.  Priority is given to applicants
whose work focuses on one project that wasn't undertaken to earn a different award.  Download an application at
http://www.sidavis.org/awards and include photos, news clippings and other supporting documents.  Send submissions
(digital only) and questions to Wendy Weitzel at wendyedit at gmail.com. Deadline is Dec. 1.

CLUBS/EVENTS:  What is round, awesome and has a diameter of 24 inches?  A unicycle!  Come to the DHS Blue Devil's
Unicycling Club on Tuesday in N-10.  We not only have unicycles but also pizza!

Freedom From Hunger is holding a shoe drive on October 29th from 8:00-8:45 on Wednesday in L-21.  Bring in gently-
used shoes and get a Noah's Bagel!  Also, receive CSF, NHS and Key Club volunteer minutes for each pair of shoes you
bring!

Hey Key Clubbers!  We'll have a meeting this Wednesday, October 29th at lunch in Room S-12.  Stop by for food, to learn
about new projects and to sign up for the 'Key to College' event!  See you all there!

What's the best way for clubs to gain new members?  Participate in the DHS Club Fair on November 4.  Pick up
applications in C-4 and turn them back in by October 29th.

Do you know anyone who has or has had cancer?  If so, come any day at lunch to N-12 to fill out a ribbon so we can raise
awareness of how cancer has affected the students of DHS.
Reminder:  If you want to play in the 2014 Intramural Dodgeball season, stop by C-4 for a sign-up packet.  Sign-ups are
due to C-4 by October 29th.

Mommy has been telling you are special since you were born.  Show off that special talent at DHS Factor.  Pick up an
application in C-4 and turn it in by October 31st.

There will be a Mu Alpha Theta meeting on Wednesday, October 29th during lunch in Mr. Ronning's room, N-5.  See you
there!

Are you an artist?  Do you like to create designs?  The DHS Car Club needs a 2014-2015 Car Club t-shirt design!  The
design could be of a cool car or something you think would look good on our t-shirt.  The winner gets a $20 Jamba Juice
gift card and a DHS Car Club t-shirt.  Electronic or hand-drawn submissions due on Halloween, Oct 31st to Mr. Thayer,
via email, (rthayer at djusd.net) or in person in Room O-3.    Questions?  See Mr. Thayer in O-3.  We are looking forward
to seeing your designs!

Where can you meet Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf, Cinderella and her Prince and Jack with his beanstalk?  At DHS
Drama's fall musical, 'Into the Woods' performed on November 7th, 8th, 13th, 14th and 15th at 7:00 in the IPAB!  There
will be another performance on November 9th at 2:00 pm.  Be careful what you wish for!
