Attention Spring Athletes! Information about tryouts is posted on the Athletics Office window and on
the DHS website. Please note: the Spring Break for Davis schools does not align with the rest of the
schools in our league. Many spring sports WILL have games/matches over our Spring Break.
Sports Paperwork Nights: Turn in your sports paperwork and get cleared for Spring tryouts! Paperwork
nights will be held on Tuesday Feb. 4 & Thursday Feb. 6 from 6-8pm in the North Gym lobby. If you
played a Fall or Winter sport, you can also pick up a copy of your clearance card to give to your spring
coach.
Next Friday is Break the Record Night! Come at 7:00 pm to see the men's basketball team take on
Franklin. Make sure to wear all white! Admission is free with ASB card and $4. without.
TODAY: The World Music Club meets today, Friday in P-22. If you haven't turned in t-shirt money, don't
forget to bring it!
The Gay-Straight Alliance will be viewing the film "The Birdcage" tonight @ 7:00 p.m. in the Band Room
(PA-3). If you are interested in comedy and social satire, come join us. Bring your friends. Under 18?
Get a permission slip (it's "R"-rated) in L-28 or at the main office front desk.
NEW/ONGOING/UPCOMING: Next week is Break-the-Record Night Spirit Week so join us in the quad
for lunchtime activities and win cool prizes! Dress up to get pumped up: Pajamas on Monday Pajama
Day, Tuesday Twin Day, Wednesday Disney Day, Thursday Sports Day and White Out Friday!
Audition applications for Davis High School's Advanced Treble Choir, Jazz Choir and the Madrigal Singers
will be available at the Front Desk on February 3rd. The forms are also available on February 3 at the

Juniors and Seniors: Bank of America is offering their Student Leaders' summer program for juniors and
seniors. This is an opportunity for you to work as a paid intern at a local nonprofit, attend a weeklong
Student Leadership Summit in Washington DC, and develop leadership and career skills. The deadline to
apply is January 31, 2014. Go online to bankofamerica.com/studentleaders or come to the Career
Center for more information.
Reminder: CAHSEE for 10th graders in next Tuesday, February 4 and Wednesday, February 5. We have
a Thursday Block Schedule on Tuesday. 10th Graders: even if you do not have a 1st period, you are
required to report to testing by 7:45 am. Location assignment is alphabetically by last name: A-P in the
north Gym and Q-Z in the South Gym. Please bring your pencil, ID and be on time.
Attention AP Students: Ap test sales will open on the Webstore on Monday, February 3rd. $95.00/test,
no refunds. The schedule is available on the website, collegeboard.com and in your AP bulletin. In
person sales will begin Monday, March 3. If you have questions, please see the Testing Coordinator.
Attention all students! This Saturday, DHS will be hosting a speech tournament. DHS students will be
competing in various speech events such as duo interpretation, advocacy and impromptu speaking. This
event begins at 9:00 am on Saturday, February 1 and ends at 7:00 pm. Come to the N-Wing.
Happy Chinese New Year! Stop by the Chinese Club out on the Quad on February 7th @ lunch for
Chinese candy, singing, dance and try out the Chinese Yo-Yo!
Do you love to sing? If you are interested in checking out the outstanding vocal music program at DHS
next year (even if you are attending Da Vinci), there are several fabulous options. One of them is the
Advanced Treble Choir, directed by Dr. Karen Gardias. If you would like to learn more about this
dynamic, diverse and fun group, we would like to invite you to an informational tea this Sunday,

The Davis Idol preliminary rounds showcased some amazing talent from Davis area high school students
last weekend. The finalists who will perform at the Red Carpet Finale this Saturday night, February 1st
are: Mandy, Kelly, Carlo, Yoojin, Emily, Elena, Dustin, Jamie, Miranda and Navya. Come cheer on your
talented friends as they arrive by limousine, walk the red carpet and perform before the audience and
judges at 7:00 pm at the Brunelle Performance Hall on Saturday night. Advanced tickets are available
for $10. from ATC members or Watermelon Music. There will be a small number of tickets for $12.
available at the door. There will be delicious treats for purchase. Mr. Chris Lee's band, Red Union Blue
will be performing and Davis Media Access will tape the event for future broadcasts. Don't miss the
fabulous signing performance that will grab the coveted title of Davis Idol!
The Davis Homeless Shelter needs your help! Throughout January, DHS is collecting items for the Davis
Homeless Shelter. Items needed are soap, shampoo, lotion and canned food. There is a drop-off bin for
donations in the Front Office and be sure to check postings around school for more information.
JUNIORS: The Rotary Club is sponsoring Camp Venture, a training and motivational summer camp for
juniors interested in pursuing a career in business, particularly as entrepreneurs. The camp will be held
at CSU Maritime Academy in June. Come to the Career Center for more information and an application.
SENIORS: Visit the Front Desk at break or lunchtime to check the spelling on the diploma order list. The
deadline is February 7, 2014 to make any adjustments, if needed.
Are you a Latino student wanting to earn a college degree? If so, you should attend the Steps to College
University Fair to learn about college opportunities available to Latino students. The event takes place
on Saturday, February 1 from 8:00-3:00 at the Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento. Come to the
Career Center for more information.
Tickets on sale now for DHS Jazz Choir Cabaret "Let It Shine!" ,the Davis High School Jazz Choir's Cabaret
dinner and music extravaganza to be held Saturday, February 8 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, February 9 at 5
p.m. at Emerson Junior High School. "Let It Shine!" which will feature songs from award-winning
musicals under the direction of William Zinn with choreography by Cara Rains. A combo from the DHS
Jazz Band will accompany the performers. The evening includes dinner catered by Cracchiolo's, a silent
auction, and a raffle. Tickets are $40 for adults and $20 for students. A ticket order form with table
reservations and entrée selections is available at http://groups.dcn.org/jazzchoir. A music-only concert
will be held Thursday, February 13 at 7 p.m. at the DHS Brunelle Theatre. Tickets are $10 for adults and
$5 for students and seniors, available at the door. DHS Jazz Choir is an auditioned singing and dance
group with 41 members. Proceeds from Cabaret will help fund the group's trip to Chicago for a

GRAD NIGHT INFORMATION: Grad Night Tickets are available online through the Davis Grad Night
website at http://groups.dcn.org/davisgradnight/tickets. Ticket prices are $90. through May 31, 2014
with the price increasing to $110. at the door. Scholarship tickets are available through school
counselors. KINDERGARTEN PICTURES NEEDED: After you have your ticket, please submit a
kindergarten picture taken by a professional photographer for the "Kinder Wall" at Grad Night 2014. If
your student's school picture is not available, please send a comparable good quality picture of your
child when they were in kindergarten. Good quality copies are OK. If you want the picture returned,
please provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope. For any questions, please contact the Kinder Wall
