An information meeting for 9th and 10th grade players (and parents) interested in trying out for DHS
Girls JV Soccer will be held tonight, Tuesday, January 28th at 7 PM in DHS Room N-8. The tryout process
for 9th and 10th grade players begins on Tuesday, February 4th with check-in and conditioning.  Players
are reminded that all DHS sports participation forms must be submitted to and cleared by the DHS
Athletic Department prior to participation in tryouts.

Attention Divers, Grades 9-12! The DHS Diving Team needs you.  An informational meeting will be held
on Wednesday, January 29th at 4:00 at UC Davis Schaal Pool.  Interested divers, contact Coach Laurel
Abernathy at laurela at pacbell.net.

Attention Spring Athletes! Information about tryouts is posted on the Athletics Office window and on
the DHS website. Please note:  the Spring Break for Davis schools does not align with the rest of the
schools in our league. Many spring sports WILL have games/matches over our Spring Break.

Sports Paperwork Nights:  Turn in your sports paperwork and get cleared for Spring tryouts! Paperwork
nights will be held on Tuesday Feb. 4 & Thursday Feb. 6 from 6-8pm in the North Gym lobby. If you
played a Fall or Winter sport, you can also pick up a copy of your clearance card to give to your spring
coach.

Come support the DHS Football program at their annual Crab Feed on Saturday, February 15.  Tickets
are $45/person which includes food, drinks, silent auction, live auction, raffles and lots of fun!  Tickets
will be on sale this week at Girls/Boys Basketball games, the wrestling meet and the rugby match.  For

TODAY:  Latinos Unidas!  Would you like to try food from El Salvador?  Come to S-4 at lunch today,

The Freedom From Hunger Club is meeting at lunch on Tuesday, January 28th.  Treats will be provided!

WOULD YOU LIKE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT SACRAMENTO CITY COLLEGE?  If so, a Sacramento City
College representative will be in the Career Center on Tuesday, January 28 at lunch to answer all your
questions about attending Sac City.  See you in the Career Center, today, Tuesday!

Attention all students!  If you want to be a math or science tutor for second semester, now is your
chance.  The Math and Science Tutors Club will be holding a meeting at lunch for all prospective tutors
today, Tuesday, January 28th in Room S-09.  Be sure to attend this meeting if you want to be a tutor!

The GSA will be showing "The Birdcage," a comedic film dealing with stereotypes and assumptions
regarding everything from sexual identity to ultraconservatism, this Friday @ 7:00 p.m.in the band
room, PA-3.  Bring your friends.  Under 18?  Get a permission slip from Mr. Wheeler in L-28 or at the
front desk in the main office.

Wondering what the those new black trash bins are for?  Environmental Club is collecting film trash
that is any wrappers, plastic bags or film.  Help us build a bottle brick bench by putting your film trash
in the Black Bins!

NEW/ONGOING/UPCOMING: Guess what?  Chinese New Year is coming up!  This year it will be on
Friday, January 31.  Come to the quad at lunch to join the Chinese Club for our first annual Chinese New
Year celebration!  There will be performances, prizes and candy and the lucky participants will receive
traditional red packets, weather permitting.

The Davis Homeless Shelter needs your help!  Throughout January, DHS is collecting items for the Davis
Homeless Shelter.  Items needed are soap, shampoo, lotion and canned food.  There is a drop-off bin for
donations in the Front Office and be sure to check postings around school for more information.

DAVIS HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR AUDITIONS FOR THE 2014-15 SCHOOL YEAR:  Students are invited to
audition for Davis High School's Advanced Treble Choir, Jazz Choir and the Madrigal Singers in 2014-
2015 school year. Audition application packets will be available in the front office beginning on February
3rd.  Completed applications must be postmarked by Monday, February 17th. A pre-audition
information meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 4th in Room P-10. Auditions will be scheduled for
Monday, March 10 thru Wednesday, March 12 in the Richard Brunelle Performance Hall. Students must
submit a separate application form to each choir for which they are auditioning.  Further information is
available on the choir websites.

JUNIORS: The Rotary Club is sponsoring Camp Venture, a training and motivational summer camp for
juniors interested in pursuing a career in business, particularly as entrepreneurs.  The camp will be held
at CSU Maritime Academy in June.  Come to the Career Center for more information and an application.

Attention Clubs and Groups on campus!  If you would like help "pumping up" your events or have an
idea for a new event on campus, come to Student Forum, Wednesday, January 29th in Room L-22 at
lunch to have your idea heard!  Food will be provided!  See you there!

Looking for a job?  If so, come to the City of Davis Job Skills Workshop on Wednesday, January 29, 2014,
3:30 pm - 6:00 pm.  at the Veterans' Memorial Theater, 203 E. 14th St to learn how to make contacts
with prospective employers, prepare for interviews and increase your chances of getting a job.  Come to
the Career Center for more information.

Happy Second Semester!  Come join the DHS Blue Devils Unicycling Club for Awareness at N-4 at lunch
every Thursday!  We will teach you how to unicycle!  We will have pizza!

The World Music Club meets this Friday in P-22.  If you haven't turned in t-shirt money, don't forget to
bring it!

Want to have your message on the DHS Marquee?  Pick up a form in C-4 and turn in the completed form
and $20 to Ms. Ozga in the Finance Office!

SENIORS: Visit the Front Desk at break or lunchtime to check the spelling on the diploma order list.  The
deadline is February 7, 2014 to make any adjustments, if needed.

Are you a Latino student wanting to earn a college degree?  If so, you should attend the Steps to College
University Fair to learn about college opportunities available to Latino students.  The event takes place
on Saturday, February 1 from 8:00-3:00 at the Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento.  Come to the
Career Center for more information.

Tickets on sale now for DHS Jazz Choir Cabaret "Let It Shine!" ,the Davis High School Jazz Choir's Cabaret
dinner and music extravaganza to be held Saturday, February 8 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, February 9 at 5
p.m. at Emerson Junior High School.  "Let It Shine!" which will feature songs from award-winning
musicals under the direction of William Zinn with choreography by Cara Rains.  A combo from the DHS
Jazz Band will accompany the performers.  The evening includes dinner catered by Cracchiolo's, a silent
auction, and a raffle.  Tickets are $40 for adults and $20 for students.  A ticket order form with table
reservations and entrée selections is available at http://groups.dcn.org/jazzchoir.  A music-only concert
will be held Thursday, February 13 at 7 p.m. at the DHS Brunelle Theatre. Tickets are $10 for adults and
$5 for students and seniors, available at the door.   DHS Jazz Choir is an auditioned singing and dance
group with 41 members. Proceeds from Cabaret will help fund the group's trip to Chicago for a

Juniors and Seniors: Bank of America is offering their Student Leaders' summer program for juniors and
seniors.  This is an opportunity for you to work as a paid intern at a local nonprofit, attend a weeklong
Student Leadership Summit in Washington DC, and develop leadership and career skills.  The deadline to
apply is January 31, 2014.  Go online to bankofamerica.com/studentleaders or come to the Career
Center for more information.

Saturday, January 25  is the deadline for submitting information and articles for the February 2014 DHS
PTA newsletter. Please send news, announcements, etc. to the DHS PTA Media Listserv at
DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org and include your name and a parent or faculty name and contact
information (e-mail address and phone number) in case the newsletter editor has questions about your
submission. Also, please be sure to include a teacher or parent contact and his/her phone number or e-
mail address. The newsletter is generally available around the 1st of each month. This is a great way to
inform, notify or enlist parents' help for upcoming DHS school and student activities.

GRAD NIGHT INFORMATION: Grad Night Tickets are available online through the Davis Grad Night
website at http://groups.dcn.org/davisgradnight/tickets.  Ticket prices are $90. through May 31, 2014
with the price increasing to $110. at the door.  Scholarship tickets are available through school
counselors.  KINDERGARTEN PICTURES NEEDED: After you have your ticket, please submit a
kindergarten picture taken by a professional photographer for the "Kinder Wall" at Grad Night 2014. If
your student's school picture is not available, please send a comparable good quality picture of your
child when they were in kindergarten.  Good quality copies are OK.  If you want the picture returned,
please provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope.  For any questions, please contact the Kinder Wall
