THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  1970 - Buckminster Fuller, the designer of the geodesic dome, was awarded the Gold Medal of the American Institute of Architects.


LUNCH CHOICES: Daily Options: Cheeseburger or Veggie Patty (with lettuce and tomato), Pepperoni or Cheese Pizza, Polish Sausage, Turkey/Pepperoni Sub, Manager's Choice:  Spaghetti w/ Meat sauce or Chicken Alfredo w/ Fresh veggies and  dinner roll


ATHLETICS:  Attention Spring Athletes! Information about tryouts is posted on the Athletics Office window and on the DHS website. Please note:  the Spring Break for Davis schools does not align with the rest of the schools in our league. Many spring sports WILL have games/matches over our Spring Break.


Sports Paperwork Nights:  Turn in your sports paperwork and get cleared for Spring tryouts! Paperwork nights will be held on Tuesday Feb. 4 & Thursday Feb. 6 from 6-8pm in the North Gym lobby. If you played a Fall or Winter sport, you can also pick up a copy of your clearance card to give to your spring coach.


TODAY:  The Career Center has many unclaimed PSAT scores.  If you took the PSAT but have not gotten your score report yet, please come to the Career Center and pick it up.  The Career Center is open from 8:30-4:00 Monday-Friday.


NEW/ONGOING/UPCOMING:  Global Glimpse will hold a meeting on Friday during lunchtime in the Career Center.


The Gay-Straight Alliance will meet at lunch on Friday in L-28, Mr. Wheeler's classroom.  We will have representatives of the LEAD Class working with us and planning our upcoming film night.  All Blue Devils are always welcome!


UC Davis is offering their annual COSMOS four-week summer program for high achieving math or science students.  Students live on campus and attend classes in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related field.  Applications are due February 22.  Come to the Career Center for information about the program, fees, financial assistance and how to apply.


SENIORS: Visit the Front Desk at break or lunchtime to check the spelling on the diploma order list.  The deadline is February 7, 2014 to make any adjustments, if needed.


We want you for the 2014-2015 Executive Board!  Pick up an application for an elected position today in C-4 and turn it in by Friday, January 17th!


The Davis Homeless Shelter needs your help!  Throughout January, DHS is collecting items for the Davis Homeless Shelter.  Items needed are soap, shampoo, lotion and canned food.  There is a drop-off bin for donations in the Front Office and be sure to check postings around school for more information.


The City of Davis is looking for talented students to participate in a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration from 11:00 to 1:00 on January 20.  If you can sing, dance, perform a dramatic skit, or have other talents, please contact Judith Plank at 530-383-1711 or jpcats at cal.net.  Come to the Career Center for more information.


SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS: Would you like to do research at UC Davis this summer?  The UC Davis Young Scholars Program offers a six-week summer research opportunity in biology and the natural sciences for high achieving high school students.  Applications are due March 21.  Come to the Career Center for information about the program, fees, financial assistance and an application.

DHS Valentine's Day Flower Sales will take place January 16 - 17th in the quad at lunchtime only.  Flowers will be delivered on Valentine's Day, February 14th during 1st period.
It's time to sign up for the Chemistry Olympiad!  The proposed date is March 22 at Sacramento City College.  If interested, please see Mr. Van Muyden in Room S-09.  There was a great turnout last year at the local examination and during the liquid nitrogen ice cream party.  Two Mira Loma High School students represented the United States of America in the International Chemistry Olympiad and received a silver medal for a superb performance.  Let's compete with Mira Loma!


DHS Orchestra Program Placement Auditions will be held in the Music Building Room PA-3 from March 3rd - 7th.  Check the Music Room for sign-up sheets with times and requirements.  The deadline to sign-up is Friday, February 21.  Please contact Mr. Moreno with questions @ amoreno at djusd.net.


Need help applying for a job?  The City of Davis is holding its free Job Skills Workshop on Wednesday, January 29 from 3:30-6:00 pm in the Veteran's Memorial Center Theater.  Participants will learn skills to prepare for, apply and interview for jobs and how to make contact with prospective employers.  Come to the Career Center for more information.


Juniors and Seniors: Bank of America is offering their Student Leaders' summer program for juniors and seniors.  This is an opportunity for you to work as a paid intern at a local nonprofit, attend a weeklong Student Leadership Summit in Washington DC, and develop leadership and career skills.  The deadline to apply is January 31, 2014.  Go online to bankofamerica.com/studentleaders or come to the Career Center for more information.


GRAD NIGHT INFORMATION: Grad Night Tickets can be purchased online through the Davis Grad Night website at http://groups.dcn.org/davisgradnight/tickets.  A form can also be downloaded from the website and mailed with a check.  Ticket prices are $90. through May 31, 2014.  The price will increase to $110. at the door.  Scholarship tickets are available through school counselors.  KINDERGARTEN PICTURES NEEDED: After you have purchased a ticket, please submit a kindergarten picture taken by a professional photographer for the "Kinder Wall" at Grad Night 2014.  We would prefer the portrait taken by the school.  If that is not possible, please send a good quality picture that is comparable of your child when they were in kindergarten.  Good quality copies are OK.  If you want the picture returned, please provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
