Ring in the New Year with the Philosophy Club today, Monday, January 13th at lunchtime in P-21, Mr. Achimore's room.  We will discuss the beginnings and origin of philosophy.

DHS Valentine's Day Flower Sales will take place on January 13 - 15th in the quad at lunchtime only.  Flowers will be delivered on Valentine's Day, February 14th during 1st period.

Auditions for The Gifted Program start with a mandatory meeting today, Monday, January 13 for anyone interested in acting in this year's spring play.  Come to Mrs. Bruch's room at 3:45 on Monday.

NEW/ONGOING/UPCOMING:  Seniors: This is the time of year to apply for financial aid for college!  To apply for federal and state financial aid, you need to complete the FAFSA by March 2.  Come to the Career Center for information about the financial aid process.

The Freedom From Hunger Club is having a meeting on Tuesday, January 14 at lunch in L-21.

The Healthcare Careers and Teen Health Awareness Clubs invite all students and staff to come learn about a career in Physical Therapy and find out what 'RICE' is.  On Wednesday, January 15th in the Career Center Conference Room at lunchtime, David Harrington, a physical therapist from Kaiser Vacaville Medical Center will come speak about his career, discuss common joint injuries in high school students, teach us the recommended "RICE" treatment for any sports injury and show us how to do a knee exam.  Healthy lunches are provided!

Attention Golfers!  There will be an informational meeting for new and returning players and their parents interested in playing for the Blue Devil golf team this spring.  We will meet Wednesday, January 15th at 7:00 pm at the high school in Room N-5.  Contact Coach Ronning at kronning at djusd.net with any questions.

Hey amazing Ag kids!  The last FFA activity of the semester is Wednesday, January 15.  We will hang out, eat and watch a movie.  Come on down to O-1A at 6:00 to have a fantastic FFA time!  See  you there!

We want you for the 2014-2015 executive board!  Pick up an application for an elected position today in C-4 and turn it in completed by January 17th!

It's time to sign up for the Chemistry Olympiad!  The proposed date is March 22 at Sacramento City College.  If interested, please see Mr. Van Muyden in Room S-09.  There was a great turnout last year at the local examination and during the liquid nitrogen ice cream party.  Two Mira Loma High School students represented the United States of America in the International Chemistry Olympiad and received a silver medal for a superb performance.  Let's compete with Mira Loma!

DHS Orchestra Program Placement Auditions will be held in the Music Building Room PA-3 from March 3rd - 7th.  Check the Music Room for sign-up sheets with times and requirements.  The deadline to sign-up is Friday, February 21.  Please contact Mr. Moreno with questions @ amoreno at djusd.net.

Need help applying for a job?  The City of Davis is holding its free Job Skills Workshop on Wednesday, January 29 from 3:30-6:00 pm in the Veteran's Memorial Center Theater.  Participants will learn skills to prepare for, apply and interview for jobs and how to make contact with prospective employers.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

If you are a junior boy or junior girl interested in government, come to the Career Center to apply for the American Legion Boys State and Girls State all-expense paid summer programs.  Participants will actively participate in all phases of creating and running a working government. Those who apply must be strong academically, have leadership skills, and have an interest in community and government. Boys State and Girls State will take place in June.  Deadline to apply is January 15.  Applications are available in the Career Center.

The City of Davis is looking for talented students to participate in a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration from 11:00 to 1:00 on January 20.  If you can sing, dance, perform a dramatic skit, or have other talents, please contact Judith Plank at 530-383-1711 or jpcats at cal.net.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

Juniors and Seniors: Bank of America is offering their Student Leaders' summer program for juniors and seniors.  This is an opportunity for you to work as a paid intern at a local nonprofit, attend a weeklong Student Leadership Summit in Washington DC, and develop leadership and career skills.  The deadline to apply is January 31, 2014.  Go online to bankofamerica.com/studentleaders or come to the Career Center for more information.

JUNIORS:  Would you like to participate in the Rotary Club's all-expense paid Camp Royal youth leadership camp this summer?  The program, held each June in the mountains of Northern California, is leadership-training event filled information; ideas and strategies that will help you become a more effective leader. The deadline to apply is February 28.  Come to the Career Center for more information and an application.

We are pleased to announce that DSHS has successfully submitted 2014 senior class verified GPA information for Cal Grants. This means students do not need to complete the paper GPA verification form to apply for a Cal Grant.  To be considered for a Cal Grant, students must submit the FAFSA by March 2. Come to the Career Center if you have questions.

GRAD NIGHT INFORMATION: Grad Night Tickets can be purchased online through the Davis Grad Night website at http://groups.dcn.org/davisgradnight/tickets.  A form can also be downloaded from the website and mailed with a check.  Ticket prices are $90. through May 31, 2014.  The price will increase to $110. at the door.  Scholarship tickets are available through school counselors.  KINDERGARTEN PICTURES NEEDED: After you have purchased a ticket, please submit a kindergarten picture taken by a professional photographer for the "Kinder Wall" at Grad Night 2014.  We would prefer the portrait taken by the school.  If that is not possible, please send a good quality picture that is comparable of your child when they were in kindergarten.  Good quality copies are OK.  If you want the picture returned, please provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope.  For any questions, please contact the Kinder Wall coordinator, Sandy Langley at momslang at gmail.com  .  Please send the photo as soon as possible to include your student!
