THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  1803 - The U.S. Supreme Court ruled itself to be the final interpreter of all
constitutional issues.

TODAY'S BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION: On this date in 1999, Lauryn Hill, hip-hop and R&B diva
was awarded 5 Grammy awards, the most ever won by a woman.  Her solo debut album was called "The
Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and received 10 award nominations.

ACADEMICS/COLLEGE INFO:  AVID is college readiness.  Are you motivated to improve your academic
skills and enjoy collaborating with your peers?  Do you have questions about college admission?  If this
sounds like you, please consider applying for the 2014-2015 AVID Elective Class.  Applications are
available from Ms. Christiansen in N-1 or Mr. Curley in O-4 or in the counseling office.  AVID students
improve our school!

SENIORS:  March 2 is the deadline to apply for FAFSA and Cal Grants.  Don't miss out on getting free
money for college!  If you have any questions about either of these programs, come to the Career
Center this week!

WOULD YOU LIKE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT SACRAMENTO CITY COLLEGE?  If so, a Sacramento City
College representative will be in the Career Center on Tuesday, February 25 at lunch to answer all your
questions about attending Sac City.

Attention AP Students: buy your AP tests online at the webstore now! $95/test, no refunds. Check our
website, collegeboard.com or the AP bulletin for the schedule. See the Testing Coordinator for
questions. If you're in need of financial assistance, see your counselor immediately.

ATTENTION GRADUATES FROM THE CLASS OF 2014: Tuesday, February 25th all Graduation Ceremony
ticket request forms are due!!!! This is the form you received last week during the assembly.  Every
graduate is required to return a completed form.  Additional forms can be picked up in the
Administration office at the front desk.  Please see Mrs. Perez in the Administration office for any
questions.

Do you want to be a bystander in the game of life or do you want to write your own destiny?  Make
history as a part of the DHS Yearbook team.  Pick up an application in P-21 and submitted by March 7th
for your chance to roll with the lions.

CLUBS/EVENTS:  Remember to come to French Club every Tuesday at lunch for activities and fun!

There will be a short MSA (Muslim Student Union) meeting this Wednesday, February 26 in P-10 at
lunchtime.

Excited to graduate?  Get even more excited! We have Class of 2014 lanyards for only $5.00!  You can
buy them on your way to the Veteran's parking lot every Wednesday at lunch!

This is your last week to register for CSF.  Come to Ms. O'Brien's room, P-13 at lunch with your pink
sheet, first semester grades and $5 to register.  Don't wait until the last minute!

Do you have issues?  Well, the HUB sure does...In fact we have 11 of them!  If you are interested in
photography, graphic art, or web management, pick up an application in O-1 today and help the HUB
make issues for the whole school!

Ever wanted to display your artwork?  If so, Expressionfest is accepting artwork submissions for the
March festival!  Be sure to pick up and submit an application in L-25, Mr. Elliott's room!

Have nothing to do at lunch next Wednesday?  Well, join the Black Student Union on the quad for music,
face painting, henna tattoos and performances to celebrate Black History Month!  Remember, it's next
Wednesday at lunch on the quad.  See you there!

Tuesday, February 25th is the deadline for submitting information and articles for the March 2014 DHS
PTA Newsletter.  Please send news, announcements, etc. to the DHS PTA Media Listserve at
DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org and include your name, parent or faculty name and contact
information (email address and phone number) in case the newsletter editor has questions regarding
your submission.  Be sure to include teacher/parent contact with phone number or email address.  This
is a great way to inform, notify or enlist parents' help for upcoming DHS school and student activities.

What are the responsibilities of a High School Principal?  What about a School Board Representative?
Find out by picking up a Youth in Government application in C-4.  Applications are due Friday, February
28th in C-4.

Have you bought your yearbook yet?  Make sure to order your yearbook soon.  There are only a small
number left!  You can confirm your order by checking the list posted in the library's window.

The Davis Homeless Shelter Needs YOUR Help!  Throughout February DHS will be collecting items for the
Davis Homeless shelter.   ITEMS NEEDED:   SOAP    SHAMPOO    LOTION   CANNED FOOD There is a drop
off bin for donations located in the main office.   Check postings around school for more information.
