TODAY'S BLACK HISTORY MONTH FACT!  On this day in Black History, Tori Morrison became the first
Black woman to be awarded the "Nobel Prize in Literature."  She was born in 1931 in Lorian, Ohio.

Attention all Spring Sport Athletes: ILS Forms are in the Front Office.  All applications require a coach's
signature once you have officially made the team roster.  Read and Follow the instructions on the
Application carefully.  Signed applications are due no later than today, Tuesday, February 18th.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:  Attention, bicycling students!  The Davis Bicycle Club is kindly donating a
limited number of bicycle helmets for students who need them.  We have a sign-up sheet for helmets in
the Career Center.   If you are in need of a helmet, please sign up as soon as possible!

TODAY:  Latinos Unidos!  Come to our meeting today, Tuesday, February 18th in Room S-2.  We will
discuss the World Language Fair, food, murals, tutoring and more.  ¡Nos vemos amigos!

ACADEMICS/COLLEGE INFO:  UC Davis is hosting a Financial Aid Awareness Week February 18-20 on the
UC Davis campus. Financial aid professionals will be available to assist students and parents complete
the FAFSA and DREAM Act applications February 18-20 from 6-8 p.m at the UC Davis Student
Community Center.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

Any student wishing to take AP Art Studio next year, must submit a portfolio of work to the Art
Department by Wednesday, February 19th.  See Ms. Diem in A-1 for any questions.

Zoinks! Zeba! Ever wanted to be a superhero like Superman or Spiderman?  Well you can't but if you join
the HUB, you can be the next best thing, a journalist!  We are on a super-search for photographers,
graphic artists, business managers and a web master.  If you have a talent in any of these areas, pick up
an application in O-1 today!

CLUBS/EVENTS:  Happy National FFA Week, everyone!  To our awesome ag kids, there is an FFA Chapter
meeting in Ms. Michel 's room, O-1A, at 6:00 on February 19th.  We will be playing games and having
root beer floats, so you won't want to miss it!

Are you Team Peevyhouse or Team Bastin?  Their annual Kiss the Goat rivalry is back!  If you are Team
Peevyhouse, sneak some change into mr. Bastin's FFA Kiss the Goat jar in his classroom and vice versa to
all you Bastinites! Let the Battle of the Scientists begin!  For more information about this fundraiser and
FFA (the coolest club on campus) stop by O-1A.  And don't forget to watch our winning teacher smooch
the goat Friday, the 21st at lunch!
Come to Japanese Club on Wednesday at lunch to make kokeshi dolls and plan for the World Language
Fair!

Ever wanted to display your art?  If so, the LEAD class is currently accepting art submissions for the DHS
Expressionfest!  All submissions must be in L-25 by February 27.  Be sure to pick up a form outside L-25.

AP Test sales are open at the Webstore.  $95.00/test, no refunds.  Sales end Friday, March 7.

What are the responsibilities of a High School Principal?  What about a School Board Representative?
Find out by picking up a Youth in Government application in C-4.  Applications are due Friday, February
28th in C-4.

Hello DHS Unicyclers!  Have a blast at the DHS Unicycling Club!  We meet every Thursday at lunch in N-4!

All DHS orchestra placement auditions will be held at Davis High School in the Music Bldg., Room PA-3
March 3rd - 7th.  Check your school music room for sign-up sheets for times and requirements.  SIGN-UP
DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21ST.  Contact Mr. Moreno for any questions.  The final audition
schedule will be posted Monday, February 24th.

The Davis Homeless Shelter Needs YOUR Help!  Throughout February DHS will be collecting items for the
Davis Homeless shelter.   ITEMS NEEDED:   SOAP    SHAMPOO    LOTION   CANNED FOOD There is a drop
off bin for donations located in the main office.   Check postings around school for more information.

UC Davis is offering their annual COSMOS four-week summer program for high achieving math or
science students.  Students live on campus and attend classes in a STEM (Science, Technology,
Engineering and Math) related field.  Applications are due February 22.  Come to the Career Center for
information about the program, fees, financial assistance and how to apply.

Have you bought your yearbook yet?  Make sure to order your yearbook soon.  There are only a small
number left!  You can confirm your order by checking the list posted in the library's window.
