THIS DAY IN HISTORY:

In 1901, a 63-year-old schoolteacher named Annie Edson Taylor became the first person to take the plunge over Niagara Falls in a barrel. Her journey lasted approximately 20 minutes and her dare-devil antics brought on 15 copy-cats between 1901 and 1995.

DHS Winter Athletes: if you need to complete your baseline concussion testing, three sessions have been added for this coming Monday, October 28th at 4:00, 5:00 or 6:00pm. Sign up on the DHS website athletic page at http://dshs.djusd.net. A second date will be added soon. Testing is valid for two years. Athletes who completed baseline testing in 2012-13 do not need to retest until 2014-15.

There is a Mu Alpha Theta meeting today in N-5, Mr. Ronning's room. Stop by to learn more about upcoming mathematical events.



Hey Animation Club members! There is another meeting today in Mr. Fontaine's room, A-7. We will be discussing the possibility of having our photo in the yearbook. Hope to see you there - invite your art-loving friends to join us!



Davis Senior High School Unicyclers! Come to N4 at lunch ~ there will be unicycle riding lessons, pizza, breadsticks & soda! If you have ever wanted to learn to unicycle - then this will be a great opportunity to develop your unicycling skills that may also help your balance in other sports.



Purchase Boo Treat "aka Halloween gram" from the Black Student Union today! They will be for sale in the quad for $2.00 each. Make sure you know the 3rd period class of the person to whom you are sending the gram ~



NEW/ONGOING/UPCOMING:

Clubs: Yearbook photo forms are due by Nov. 1, next Friday! Pick-up a form in P-21 or your club will not have a photo in this year's book!



The Gay-Straight Alliance will meet this Friday in L-28, upstairs, above the library.  One goal of the GSA is to be a Safe Haven for all students.  Come join us!



Do you enjoy music from around the world? If so, come to the World Music Club Fridays in Mr. Oster's room P-22. We listen to a variety of music from around the world and your input is welcome! We have brownies!



Are you interested in attending Sac State?  If so, come to the Career Center this Friday, October 25 at 1:45 pm for a presentation about Sac State.  The presentation will include information about Sac State's Honors Program, which is designed to provide challenging and stimulating learning experiences in small class settings. Sign up for this visit on Naviance or come to the Career Center for more information.



DHS Student Leaders of clubs, booster groups, ASB: Friday, October 25, is the deadline for submitting information and articles for the November 2013 DHS PTA newsletter. Please send news, announcements, etc. to the DHS PTA Media Listserv at DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org and include your name and a parent or faculty name and contact information (e-mail address and phone number) in case the newsletter editor has questions about your submission. Also, please be sure to include a teacher or parent contact and his/her phone number or e-mail address. Clubs! If you want your club photo in the yearbook, pick up a form in P-21 to sign-up for a time. Turn in your form by November 1st and its first come, first served, so don't wait!



Seniors! Senior ad deadlines are approaching - the 1st one is Friday for 1/8 of a page. Have your parents order online at dhsyearbook.com or pick up a form in Mr. Achimore's room P-21.



An exchange with a German school is planned for the spring and summer of 2014. If you are interested, please come to see Mrs. Floyd, N-2. You do not need to speak German to participate.



Play Rugby!   Boys' Rugby is back at Davis High School for its second season.  No one is too big or too small to play, and no experience is necessary.  Come hear more at an introductory meeting for parents and 9th-12th grade players on Thursday, November 7th from 7:00 p m to 8:00 pm in the DHS Library. Reminder: Event and information postings are to be posted on Blue Walls only.  Not blue doors, not blue garbage cans, not blue drink machine kiosks and not in restrooms.

Reminder: Please place recycle materials in proper containers. Cardboard bin is near trash dumpster. If you don't know, ask somebody. Davis Waste Removal will not dump containers with improper materials in them.
