ATHLETICS:  Fall & Winter Athletes:  Just a reminder...if you will be playing a spring sport, you need to come to the Athletics Office to pick up a copy of your clearance card to give to your spring coach. The coaches will be expecting this at the first day of tryouts!

Spring Athletes: if this will be your first sport of the year, all of your sports paperwork must be submitted to the Athletics Office prior to the first day of tryouts. Don't delay...tryouts begin Monday Feb. 4!

LUNCH CHOICES:  BBQ/Adobo/Curry/Tikka Chicken or Hot Wings over rice, or Nachos with Refried Beans, Cheese and Salsa or Sushi Bowl.  Cheese sandwich with Soup of the Day.  DHS Special Veggie or Pepperoni Pizza.

NEW:  Lecture Series - Interested in the Biomedical and Biomedical Engineering fields?  Tuesday, 2/5 at lunchtime in the Career Center, Dr. Scott Simon of UC Davis Biomedical Engineering Department will present: "Innate Immunity: Engineering Your Body's Response to Infection and Inflammation."  Dr. Simon will discuss systems that he has developed of low-cost, real time tools to study inflammatory disease progression.  Dr. Simon received his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from UC San Diego, joined UC Davis Biomedical Engineering in 1999 and rose to the rank of full Professor in 2002.  He is the current Vice Chair of the department.

FFA and the Floral Design class will be holding a Valentine's Day rose sale.  Through the week of 2/4 through 2/8, single rose arrangements with customizable cards will be sold for $3 in the quad at lunch.  Arrangements will be delivered on Valentine's Day during 5th period.

Blue Devils! Come show your love of Valentine's Day and buy a Valentine Gram at the Finance Office at lunch starting on Tuesday, 2/5.  For $1, you will get a card and a piece of seasonal candy!

Do you have a message to convey through a song, poem or dance?  If so, come to Ms. Jahsi's room, L-29 on Tuesday, 2/5 during lunch to sign up to perform at the Black History Month Poetry Café hosted by the Black Student Union.   Please come with a small description of your act.  It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.  Hope to see you there!

TODAY'S EVENTS: Auditions for the original play, The Breedless Kitsch are Thursday, 1/31 at 3:00 in P-11.

Break the Record Night Spirit Week!  Thanks to students who wore their favorite letter shirt yesterday. Today, Thursday is Blue Day and Friday is White-Out.  Show your spirit and you may win prizes, a Break the Record Night t-shirt and a chance to become Spirit King and Queen!

UPCOMING EVENTS:
Break the Record!  Please come to the Men's Break the Record Night Basketball game this Friday, 2/1 at 7:00 pm in the new gym.  Please wear all white to support your Blue Devils!

Come to the Swag and Hydration Station this Friday, 2/1 from 5:30 - 6:45 before the varsity game to get swagged and watered-up!  Please provide your own t-shirt to decorate or you can buy one for $2.  We will have face paint and other materials to help get swagged up.  We will also be playing water pong at the Hydration Station and there will be Jamba Juices on sale too!


Want to help fundraise for kids in need?  Join UNICEF Club at lunch on Friday, 2/1 in P-20 at lunch.

Latinos Unidos and the Debate Team are having a debate on Affirmative action in the IPAB on Thursday, 2/7 during lunch.  This event will count as one of the points needed to go on the San Francisco trip at the end of the school year.  Hope to see you there!

The Davis Idol preliminary rounds showcased some amazing talent from 24 DHS students.  The finalists are Rebecca, Mandy, Ilana, Scott, Lucy, Elisa, Nikki, Camila, Jose, Jenna, Sibel and Andrew.  Come support your talented friends at the red carpet finale, Saturday, February 2 at 7:00 pm at the IPAB.   Professional judging provided by our superintendent, Winfred Roberson and DHS teacher, Chris Lee.  Tickets are available at Watermelon Music downtown or from an ATC member.  If tickets are still available at the time of the show, they will be $12 at the door.  Don't miss the singing performance that grabs the coveted title of Davis Idol!


Don't forget to "Get Happy," the annual DHS Jazz Choirs Cabaret Dinner Show on Saturday, 2/ 9 and Sunday, 2/10 at Emerson Junior High School.  This event includes dinner catered by Cracchiolo's and a silent and live auction and raffle.  Tickets for adults are $40, $20 for students and available at www.dhsjazzchoir.org<http://www.dhsjazzchoir.org>.  Orders must be received by Monday, 2/4.  If you can't make it to the Cabaret Dinner show, there will be a special concert on Valentine's Day, 2/14 at the Brunelle Theatre at 7:00 pm.  Tickets are available at the door for $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.



Class officer applications are now available in C-4 and are due Friday, 2/8 in C-4.  If you are interested in serving as class president, treasurer, secretary, club commission or other offices, please pick up an application.


If you are a junior interested in government, come to the Career Center and apply for the American legion Boys State and Girls State all-expenses paid summer programs.  Participants will actively create and run a working government.  Applicants must be strong academically, have leadership skills and be interested in community and government.  The Boys State will be held June 22-29.  Girls State will be held June 22-29.  Applications are available in the Career Center and the deadline to apply is February 6.

CONTINUED: Seniors - To check the spelling of your name for your diploma, come to the Front Office.  Deadline to correct or change:  Friday, 2/1/13

Seniors-   Order your mid-year (Semester 1) transcript requests to out-of-state/private colleges.  Follow the posted instructions at the Transcript counter in Counseling.
