Attention track and field athletes. If you missed the informational meeting, there will be a second meeting: today, Tuesday, 1/29; during lunch; in Coach Elliott's classroom L-25.  This meeting is for any student-athlete interested in track and field that missed the first meeting.

DHS Spring Athletes:  Still need to sign up for CONCUSSION BASELINE TESTING?  Three more sessions have been added:  Saturday, 2/ 2 at 9:00, 10:00 or 11:00 and are held in the DHS Library computer lab. Attention Fall & Winter DHS athletes: For participation in a Spring sport, please come by the Athletics Office or stop in at one of the Sports Physical Paperwork Nights, January 29 & 30 to pick up a copy of your athletic clearance card to give to the Spring coach.

SPRING ATHLETES SPORTS PHYSICAL PAPERWORK NIGHTS:  Where/When: January 29 & 30: 6-8pm in the North Gym lobby. Turn in your completed paperwork and receive your athletic clearance card to present to your Spring coach on the first day of tryouts.

LUNCH CHOICES:  BBQ Day & Students' Favorites: Veggie or Pepperoni Pizza.  On Wednesday, 1/30, we will have El major Burrito, Chicken, rice, beans and cheese or  beans and cheese, or with Chili Verde (pork carnitas) served in the Quad at lunch!

NEW:

Don't forget to "Get Happy," the annual DHS Jazz Choirs Cabaret Dinner Show on Saturday, 2/ 9 and Sunday, 2/10 at Emerson Junior High School.  This event includes dinner catered by Cracchiolo's and a silent and live auction and raffle.  Tickets for adults are $40, $20 for students and available at www.dhsjazzchoir.org<http://www.dhsjazzchoir.org>.  Ticket orders must be received by Monday, 2/4.  If you can't make it to the Cabaret Dinner show, there will be a special concert on Valentine's Day, 2/14 at the Brunelle Theatre at 7:00 pm.  Tickets are available at the door for $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.



Class officer applications are now available in C-4 and are due Friday, 2/8 in C-4.  If you are interested in serving as class president, treasurer, secretary, club commission or other offices, please pick up an application.


TODAY'S EVENTS: The Teen Health Awareness Club plans to meet for upcoming lectures and for an 'Alternative to Soda' Day.  If you would like to help or have good ideas, please join us at lunch today, Tuesday, 1/29 in S-5.  We will have samples of power bars/health bars!

Seniors! Last chance on campus to order Caps/Gowns/Tassels, Announcements and Class Rings today, Tuesday, 1/29 at lunch in the quad.  If you already ordered your ring, they will be available for pickup on Tuesday.  New class ring orders require a $50. deposit.  Order forms are in the Front Office.


There is a Chinese Club meeting today, Tuesday 1/29 at lunchtime to plan for the Chinese New Year!

Interested in a career in the Navy?  There will be a Navy Representative at the Career Center, today, Tuesday, 1/29 at lunchtime.

Break the Record Night Spirit Week is coming!  Tuesday, 1/29 is Jersey Day; Wednesday is Scrabble Day so wear your favorite letter.  Thursday is Blue Day and Friday is White-Out.  Show your spirit and you may win prizes, a Break the Record Night t-shirt and a chance to become Spirit King and Queen!

UPCOMING EVENTS:
On Wednesday, 1/30, at lunchtime in P-10, Mr. Reilly's room,  School Board representative Sheila Allen will be giving a presentation on local politics and government during the Young Democrats club meeting. The talk will cover how to get involved and what it's like to work in all forms of local government.

Break the Record!  Please come to the Men's Break the Record Night Basketball game this Friday, 2/1 at 7:00 pm in the new gym.  Please wear all white to support your Blue Devils!

Auditions for the original play, The Breedless Kitsch are Wednesday and Thursday, 1/30 and 1/31 at 3:00 in P-11.

The Davis Idol preliminary rounds showcased some amazing talent from 24 DHS students.  The finalists are Rebecca, Mandy, Ilana, Scott, Lucy, Elisa, Nikki, Camila, Jose, Jenna, Sibel and Andrew.  Come support your talented friends at the red carpet finale, Saturday, February 2 at 7:00 pm at the IPAB.   Professional judging provided by our superintendent, Winfred Roberson and DHS teacher, Chris Lee.  Tickets are available at Watermelon Music downtown or from an ATC member.  If tickets are still available at the time of the show, they will be $12 at the door.  Don't miss the singing performance that grabs the coveted title of Davis Idol!

If you are a junior boy or girl interested in government, come to the Career Center and apply for the American legion Boys State and Girls State all-expenses paid summer programs.  Participants will actively create and run a working government.  Applicants must be strong academically, have leadership skills and be interested in community and government.  The Boys State will be held June 22-29.  Girls State will be held June 22-29.  Applications are available in the Career Center and the deadline to apply is February 6.


Attention sophomores/juniors!  Want to join the Yearbook Team for next year?  There will be an info meeting on Wednesday, January 30th at lunch in C-3.  See Mrs. Thomsen for more info.



Looking for a summer job?  The City of Davis is holding its free Job Skills Workshop on Wednesday, 1/30 at 4:00 p.m. in the Veteran's Memorial Center Theater.   You will learn skills for job applications and interviews and make valuable contacts.  Need more info?  Come to the Career Center!

CONTINUED: Seniors - To check the spelling of your name for your diploma, come to the Front Office.  Deadline to correct or change:  Friday, 2/1/13

Seniors-   Order your mid-year (Semester 1) transcript requests to out-of-state/private colleges.  Follow the posted instructions at the Transcript counter in Counseling.

Start the semester off right - come to the Academic Center, M-2 for tutoring or if you just want to meet some really cool UC Davis Tutors!
