THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 1848 - James W. Marshall discovered a gold nugget at Sutter's Mill in northern California<http://www.on-this-day.com/us/ca>. The discovery led to the gold rush of '49.

ATHLETICS:
Varsity Girls Soccer will meet, Friday, 1/25 at 4:00pm in the DHS Library. Meeting is for potential players only.  A parent info meeting will be held after tryouts and team selection.

DHS Spring Athletes:  CONCUSSION BASELINE TESTING:  If you still need to sign up for testing, three more sessions have been added:  Saturday,
2/2 at 9:00, 10:00 or 11:00. Sessions are held in the DHS Library computer lab. Sign up link and permission form available on the website front page:  www.davisseniorhigh.net<http://www.davisseniorhigh.net>

Attention Fall & Winter DHS athletes: If you are planning on participating in a Spring sport, please come by the Athletics Office or stop in at one of the Sports Physical Paperwork Nights January 29 & 30 to pick up a copy of your athletic clearance card to give to the Spring coach.

SPRING ATHLETES SPORTS PHYSICAL PAPERWORK NIGHTS:  Where/When: January 29 & 30: 6-8pm in the North Gym lobby. Turn in your completed paperwork and receive your athletic clearance card to present to your Spring coach on the first day of tryouts.

Spring applications for ILS will be available in the front office starting the week of January 28th.

Attention sophomores/juniors: are you interested in hearing more about joining the Yearbook Team for next year?  There will be an info meeting on Wednesday, January 30th at lunch in C-3.  See Mrs. Thomsen for more info.

LUNCH CHOICES:  BBQ/Adobo/Curry/Tikka Chicken or Hot Wings over rice, or Nachos with refried beans, cheese and salsa, or Sushi Bowl.  Cheese sandwich and soup and Winter salad bar daily.

NEW:
Seniors! Last chance on campus to order Caps/Gowns/Tassels, Announcements and Class Rings on Tuesday, 1/29 at lunch in the quad.  If you already ordered your ring, they will be available for pickup on Tuesday.  New class ring orders require $50. deposit.  Order forms are in the Front Office.

The Model United Nations Club will meet on Monday, 1/28 at lunchtime in P-25 to discuss fundraising ideas for the upcoming conference.  Please attend if interested in being a delegate.

Friday, 1/25 is the deadline for submitting information and articles for the February 2013 DHS PTA Newsletter.  Please send news items/announcements with your name and phone number or faculty name and contact information in case of questions to DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org<mailto:DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org> .  The newsletter reaches all DHS families and is available around the 1st of each month.  This is a great way to inform, notify or enlist parents' help for upcoming DHS school and student activities.

EVENTS TODAY, 1/24/13:
Spring Play!  Auditions in P-11 - 1/24, afterschool.  The play addresses racism in Davis and is written by a DHS/UCD graduate.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
Break the Record Night Half-Time Game needs players!  We need at least two people from each class to participate.  There will be a game meeting for more information in C-4 at lunch on Friday, 1/25.

Stressed out from schoolwork, grades or college? Come to LEAD lunch in L-25, Mr. Elliott's room on Friday, 1/26 to vent.  Food will be provided!

Break the Record Night Spirit Week is coming!  Tuesday, 1/29 is Jersey Day, Wednesday is Scrabble Day so wear your favorite letter.  Thursday is Blue Day and Friday is White-Out.  Show your spirit and you may win prizes, a Break the Record Night t-shirt and a chance to become Spirit King and Queen!

Looking for a summer job?  The City of Davis is holding its free Job Skills Workshop on Wednesday, 1/30 at 4:00 p.m. in the Veteran's Memorial Center Theater.   You will learn skills for job applications and interviews and make valuable contacts.  Need more info?  Come to the Career Center!

Seniors - To check the spelling of your name for your diploma, come to the Front Office.  Deadline to correct or change:  Friday, 2/1/13

Seniors-   Order your mid-year (Semester 1) transcript requests to out-of-state/private colleges.  Follow the posted instructions at the Transcript counter in Counseling.
