Attention new, returning and prospective track and field athletes interested in being a part of the 2013 team: There will be a mandatory informational meeting Thursday, January 17 in the DHS Library at 6pm.  We will discuss the team, our philosophy, our goals and expectations.  We will also distribute and collect necessary paperwork and answer your questions.  Once again, student-athletes and parents interested in being a part of the DHS track team should attend this meeting this Thursday, January 17 at 6pm in the DHS Library. DHS Rugby Club is looking for players for our Varsity and JV teams.  Are you looking for an exciting new and fun sport that has players of all sizes? DHS Spring Athletes:  CONCUSSION BASELINE TESTING:  Tuesday, January 22- 9:00am, 10:00am, 11:00am (this is a teacher work day-no school) and Wednesday, January 23- 3:00 pm, 4:00 pm, 5:00 pm. SPORTS PHYSICAL PAPERWORK NIGHTS:  January 29 & 30: 6-8pm in the North Gym lobby. Turn in your completed paperwork and receive your athletic clearance card to present to your Spring coach on the first day of tryouts.

Attention Fall & Winter DHS athletes: If you are planning on participating in a Spring sport, please come by the Athletics Office or stop in at one of the Sports Physical Paperwork Nights January 29 & 30 to pick up the next copy of your athletic clearance card and emergency card to give to the Spring coach.

LUNCH CHOICES:   Wednesday, January 16, get in the lunch line early for Chinese food!  Choices of General Chicken or Sweet and Sour Chicken with fried rice, Vegetable Chow Mein, Hot and Sour Soup, fruit, vegetable and a choice of milk.

The Spring play is coming up!  There is a mandatory meeting Wednesday, January 16 at 3:00 pm in P-11.  Auditions are Wednesday, January 23 and Thursday, January 24 after school in P-11.  The play addresses racism in Davis and is written by Ben Moroski, a DHS and UCD Graduate.  Everyone who can make the time commitment will be cast.

An information meeting regarding DHS Girls Soccer for 9th and 10th grade prospective players and parents will be held on Wednesday, January 16th at 7:30 PM in DHS room N-8. The pre-tryout process is scheduled to begin on Friday, February 1st at 4 PM with check-in and conditioning at the DHS soccer field. The UC Davis Young Scholars Program offers summer research opportunities in biology and the natural sciences for high achieving high school students.  Applications are due April1. Seniors!  Order your mid-year (Semester 1) transcript requests to out-of-state/private colleges.  Follow the posted instructions at the Transcript counter in Counseling.

The California State Summer School for the Arts is accepting applications from talented artists, writers and performers for its premier summer program at the California Institute of the Arts from July 13 - August 9.  Instruction is offered in animation, film and video, creative writing, dance, music, theater and visual arts.  Deadline to apply is February28.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

Internship Opportunity!  Davis Media Access is offering a non-paid internship in community television production!  Interns will be trained on various tasks related to video coverage of DJUSD events, including camera person, director, audio mixer and more. SENIORS- Come by the Front Desk to check the spelling of your name on the diploma order list.  You will have until February 1, 2013 to make adjustments to how your name appears on your diploma.

Want to see what Mr. Slabaugh looks like with no hair?  The DHS Bands are holding their annual Play-A-Thon on January 18 to raise money for the Band program and band trips.  The more money the students raise, the more hair Mr. Slabaugh loses.  Want to contribute to the cause? Find a Band student and pledge to contribute.

DHS Factor Are you wondering if DHS has talent?  Come to see for yourself on Thursday, January 17 at 7:00 pm in the Richard Brunelle Theatre.  Tickets are on sale this week during lunch in the Finance Office and online at the DHS Web Store, http://webstores.activenetwork.com/school-software/davis_high_school_on/.  The tickets are $3 with an ASB card and $5 without and are also available at the door.

Who will be the next Davis High Idol? Buy your tickets now to see what amazing talent your friends and peers have! Find an ATC (Advanced Treble Choir) member or visit Room PA-8 or Watermelon Music in downtown Davis for your tickets. Preliminary rounds are January 25 and 26 with the exciting, red-carpet finale on February 2.  Don't miss the fun or risk a sell-out, ticket packages for all three nights are available for pre-sale for only $25! For individual tickets, prelim nights are $8 in advance, $10 at the door and $10 in advance, $12 for the door for the finale. There will be fabulous musical entertainment all three nights, so don't miss out!
