THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 1998- After nearly 14 hours of debate, the House of Representatives approves two articles of impeachment against President Bill Clinton, charging him with lying under oath to a federal grand jury and obstructing justice. Clinton, the second president in American history to be impeached, vowed to finish his term.

Attention all Fall Sport ILS students: your graded ILS coursework is now available for pick-up in the office at the front desk. Please stop by this week and pick it up.
DHS is collecting items for the Davis Homeless shelter. Please bring NEW SOCKS, shampoo, conditioner, soap, and deodorant. There will be a drop off bin for donations located in the main office. We will be collecting items now through Winter break. Check signs around school for more info.
Juniors and Seniors: Bank of America is offering their Student Leaders' summer program for juniors and seniors. This is an opportunity for you to work as a paid intern at a local nonprofit, attend a weeklong Student Leadership Summit in Washington DC, and develop leadership and career skills. The deadline to apply is January 31, 2014. Go online to bankofamerica.com/studentleaders or come to the Career Center for more information.
Do you have an idea or a design for a science or engineering project? If so, you should apply for the 2014 Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) THINK Scholars Program. Winners will receive $2,000 in funding, a trip to MIT, mentorship from the THINK team, and advice from MIT professors and industry professionals to complete their project over the spring semester. Deadline to apply online is January 11, 2014. Come to the Career Center for more information.
Davis Idol 2014 is coming! Who will walk away with the coveted title of Davis High Idol? If you want your chance to shine in the singing spotlight, applications for contestants will be available beginning today! Applications can be picked up in PA-8 and are available on the ATC website: http://groups.dcn.org/dhstreblechoir/ as well as on the Advanced Treble Choir Facebook page. The first 24 complete applications will be accepted beginning on Thursday, December 12 after 12pm in PA-8. Any additional applicants will be wait-listed. The dates for the preliminary rounds are January 24 and 25, with the exciting, red-carpet finale on February 1. Contestants must be current 10th-12th graders enrolled in any Davis high school.

Or find out what skills you need to advance in the career of your choice? The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is coming soon! If you are interested in participating in this comprehensive survey that gives you a complete outline of the best careers for you - please sign up in the Career Center or with the Testing Coordinator. This is not just for students who plan to enter the military - this can work for anyone. Sign up by 12/20 and we will announce the survey date after Winter Break.
SENIORS: submit your senior yearbook quote now! Log on to School Loop and send a "Loop Mail" to "ybook quotes." Quotes must be less than 20 words, school appropriate and must cite the author.
We are pleased to announce that DSHS has successfully submitted 2014 senior class verified GPA information for Cal Grants. This means students do not need to complete the paper GPA verification form to apply for a Cal Grant. To be considered for a Cal Grant, students must submit the FAFSA by March 2. Come to the Career Center if you have questions.
Attention Seniors! Tickets for the 2014 Davis Grad Night Celebration are now available for purchase online through the Davis Grad Night website at http://groups.dcn.org/davisgradnight/tickets. Get your tickets now! Prices go up on January 1. Scholarship tickets are also available through school counselors.
Open up those baby books and grab that kindergarten picture. We need it for Grad Night! This is an annual tradition. All kindergarten pictures of graduating seniors are posted at the Grad Night event. All photos (copies are okay) must be submitted by January 1! Send your photo to Sandy Langley, 2026 Klee Place, Davis, CA 95618. Please provide a self-addressed stamped envelope if you would like the photo returned.
