THIS DAY IN HISTORY
-1830 - The "Tom Thumb", the first locomotive built in America, raced a horse on a nine-mile course. The horse won when the locomotive had some mechanical difficulties.

TODAY
- Breakfast is served daily at the DHS Snack Bar at Nutrition Break prices as follows: $2.00 full price, .30 cents for Reduced and Free is free. For Lunch today we have Blue Devil BBQ with choice of hamburger, hot dog or veggie pattie on a whole wheat bun, served with grilled vegetables or oven fries.
- Davis Senior High School Site Council applications are due Tuesday, September 18 to Mr. McHale.
-Come to Chess Club today, Tuesday at lunch in Mr. Vasquez' room L-10. Players of all skill levels are welcome. We will teach players strategy and rules!
-Latinos Unidos will be meeting every Monday at lunch in O-5. There will be food and fun activities. Everyone is welcome and applications to become a Latinos Unidos officer will be accepted and due on Tuesday, September 18.
NEW
-The first Student Forum meeting will be this Wednesday at lunch in Room L-22 just above the library in Room L-22. Pizza and snacks will be provided!
The Gay-Straight Alliance aka GSA will have its first meeting of the year this Friday, September 21st at lunch in Mr. Wheeler's classroom, L-28 (that's upstairs above the library). The GSA is a student-run club that brings together LGBTQ and straight students to support each other, provide a safe place to socialize and create a platform for activism to fight homophobia and transphobia. Bring your lunch, bring your friends and help make schools safe for ALL students.
-Seniors! It's not too soon to think about Grad Night 2013! The tickets are at their lowest price now - $75 until December 31. Scholarships available for qualified seniors; talk to your school counselor. Davis Grad Night is Friday, June 7, 2013 from 9:30 pm to 5:00 am. The event is an all-night, alcohol and drug-free party for graduating seniors. Grads must enter before midnight and bring photo ID. Food, beverages, entertainment, dancing, activities and more are provided. Only DJUSD graduates who are eligible to walk at their graduation ceremony may attend. -CSFers! This is the LAST WEEK to register for the CSF fall and 2012 semester! During lunch, come to Ms. O'Brien's Room, P-13 with your pink registration form, found in P-13, the library and the brochure rack in the Front Office. Bring $5., your spring 2012 report card and hour sheet. Be sure to register this week!
-Hey Key Clubbers! Come to our next meeting Wednesday, September 19 at lunch in Room S-12 and learn about our trip to Six Flags! Food will be provided and we hope to see you there!
-Davis Senior High School is seeking a parent to serve on the School Site Council for the 2012-2013 school year. The School Site Council discusses ways to improve student achievement and meets at Davis Senior High School on the third Thursday of each month at 3:00. If you are interested in applying to serve, please contact Vice Principal Tom McHale at tmchale at djusd.net.
-Snow in September? No snow yet but it is time to get ready to hit the slopes with the DHS Snowboard Team! Interested students grades 9-12 who would like to learn to ride better or develop park skills are welcome to attend the Snowboard Team info meeting at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 19 in the DHS Library. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend to learn more about the team to allow their student's participation. Our Snowboard Team was Number 1 in the Central Division last season and looking forward to another great year. -Interested in a career involving healthcare? If so, the DSHS Healthcare Careers Club is starting up for the 2012-2013 school year. The first informational meeting will be held at lunch on Wednesday, September 19 in the Career Center N-17. Hope to see you there!
-If you are proficient in any world language including English and would like to volunteer to help your peers at DHS with their language courses, please come to the Language Tutors Club's first meeting for potential members in N-2 near the north quad on Wednesday, September 19 during lunch!
-The City of Davis is offering their annual fall tour of four northern California universities! The next tours are scheduled for Stanford, Chico State and Berkeley. Trips are $65 and include transportation, college tour, and lunch. Come to the Career Center in N-17 for more information.
-School pictures are here! Lifetouch pictures taken at school registration can be picked up in the Career Center, which is located in the portable trailer behind the theater. Please encourage your student to come to the Career Center to pick up their pictures.
-Do you like helping others and want the chance to make a difference in your community? Sign up for the National Honor Society outside room S-12 this week or next. Just bring your official second semester transcript from last year with a GPA of 3.4 or higher, $5. and your enthusiasm! Hope to see you soon!
-Are you interested in being a Walker Creek Cabin Leader? If so, cabin leaders are needed for North Davis Elementary School. Please come to the Career Center for an application.
-College visits are in progress! Come to the Career Center or go on Naviance for the date and time of each college visit. Students must sign up on Naviance prior to attending a college visit and must check in with their teacher before leaving class to attend a visit. If you need help with your Naviance account, come to the Career Center or see your counselor.
-If your student would like to visit a college during a school day, it is important that you submit a note to the Attendance Office in advance of the absence requesting that the absence be excused. College visits may be excused per administrator's discretion. Please include in the note, the name of the student, the date of the visit and the name of the college.
