-DHS Boys Lacrosse Registration is open.  To receive all preseason updates about the upcoming high school boys JV/Varsity Lacrosse season, you must register before the end of October. -Are you interested in learning more about the U.S. Marines?  If so, come to the Career Center at lunch TODAY, October 30 to meet with a representative from the Marines.


-CABIN LEADER'S are needed for North Davis Elementary School's trip to Walker Creek on January 7-11. Cabin leaders must: work well with children, be outgoing with an enthusiasm for the outdoors. Come to the Career Center for an application. Applications must be submitted to North Davis by October 30.



NEW

-Attention club members:  If you would like your club represented in the yearbook, you MUST fill out a CLUB PHOTO FORM and sign up for a photo date.  Forms can be found in C-3, in the front office or at http://dhsyearbook.wordpress.com and are due on November 9th to Mrs. Thomsen.



-Did you ever watch Sesame Street as a kid?  Come see DHS Drama's Avenue Q!  It's like Sesame Street...except for adults featuring songs such as "Everyone's A Little Bit Racist."   Opening Night is Friday, November 2nd at 7:00 pm in the IPAB.  There will be additional performances also on November 3rd, 8th, 9th, and 10th at 7:00 pm. and Sunday, November 4th at 2:00 p.m.  Tickets are $8 for students and $16 for general admission.


-A special thanks to everyone who helped organize the Blood drive on Friday.  We had a great turnout! As for the results we registered 100 donors and collected 76 pints of life saving blood. We also had 61 NEW donors come out to save a life, woo hoo!  Great job by the Red Cross club in getting people excited to save lives!  Our next blood drive will be 3/15/13.

-If you are a young woman between 14 and 17 and have participated in volunteer efforts in your community or school, you may be eligible for the $1,000 SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL OF DAVIS VIOLET RICHARDSON AWARD.  Come to the Career Center for an application.  The deadline to apply is December 1.



-Come to the Student Forum Meeting in Room L-22 this Wednesday at lunch to give feedback on important topics such as Homecoming and future ideas for our school.  Pizza and Halloween treats will be present and so should you!



-Want to enjoy some delicious frozen yogurt while giving to a good cause?  Then pick up a flyer from your English classroom or the Front Desk and come to Cultive Frozen Yogurt on November 7, between 8:00 pm to 7:00 pm!  Simply present the flyer to the cashier as you purchase your yogurt to donate part of the payment towards the education of children in Ethiopia!



-Looking for a summer job?  The City of Davis is holding its free Job Skills Workshop on Wednesday, January 30 at 4:00 pm in the Veteran's Memorial Center Theater.  Participants will learn skills for applying and interviewing for any type of job, experience a mock interview and learn how to make contacts to increase the chances of employment.  Come to the Career Center N-17 for more information.



-Attention All DHS Instrumental Soloists - This year's annual DHS Orchestra Concerto Competition is being held Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 7:00 pm on stage in the DHS Brunelle Performance Hall.  It is open to all DHS instrumentalists.  The winner of this competition will be given the honor of performing with the DHS Symphony Orchestra at the Mondavi Center in Jackson Hall at the Wennberg Music  Festival on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 3:00 pm as well as a check for $300!  A sign-up sheet and informational flyer will be located starting next week, Monday October 22nd on the window of the computer lab in PA-3.  Deadline to sign up is December 21st.   Also, you must email Mr. Moreno after you sign up at amoreno at djusd.net<mailto:amoreno at djusd.net>.  In your email, please provide your name, instrument and the name of your piece.



-Parking: Starting November 1, the Davis Police Department will be ticketing drivers who park in the campus staff spaces without a current staff placard. Please also be mindful of signs that indicate no loading or unloading or right turn only as drivers can be ticketed at any time for these moving violations. For those who use the stadium lot, some of the spaces will be reassigned to assist in a safer loading and unloading area. So, please make sure to check the space before you pull in to make sure it is not a "staff only" space as some of these will be changed.


The DHS Blue and White Foundation is now accepting applications for the Student Activity Grant Program.  The goal of the program is to enhance the high school experience for any current DHS student.  Any DHS student may apply for funding to support curricular or extra-curricular activities during their sophomore, junior or senior year.  Examples of activities that may be considered for funding include academic conferences, sports training camps, fine art workshops, tutoring, extracurricular school essentials (i.e. costuming, sports equipment, musical instruments), etc.  Applications will be reviewed on a case-by- case basis and all grant awards will depend on the merit of the requests, number of applicants and funding availability.  The Student Activity Grant Program is for individual students only; applications can be submitted online at www.dhsblueandwhite.org<http://www.dhsblueandwhite.org>.
