-SPORTS PHYSICAL PAPERWORK NIGHTS:  October 23 & 24: 6-8pm in the North Gym lobby. Turn in your completed paperwork and receive your athletic clearance card to present to your Winter coach on the first day of tryouts.

-Attention Fall DHS athletes: If you are planning on participating in a Winter sport, please come by the Athletics Office or stop in at one of the Sports Physical Paperwork Nights October 23 and 24 to pick up the next copy of your athletic clearance card and emergency card to give to the Winter coach.

-DHS Boys Lacrosse Registration is open.  To receive all preseason updates about the upcoming h igh school boys JV/Varsity Lacrosse season, you must register before the end of October.  Go to http://www.davislacrosse.org/.  Click on Register Online button located in the vertical blue navigation panel on the left.  Scroll down until you see: Spring 2013 - DHS JV/VAR Lacrosse Boys (grades 9-12). -For lunch today we have Hot Wings over fried rice, Chicken Patty or Fish Filet on a bun with coleslaw.



-Global Glimpse is a leadership program where students travel to Latin America.  Proficiency in Spanish language is not required.  An informational meeting will be held in Ms. Diaz' room,  O-6 today, Tuesday, October 23rd.  All juniors welcome!



-The DHS Pets Alive Club will be having its first meeting today, Tuesday, October 23rd  at lunch in Room L-23.  It was made to help bring about change in Yolo County's Animal Shelter to save more lives.  The first meeting will be purely informational.  If you are interested, please come by!



Are you interested in HEALTH issues?  Then come test out your communication skills in discussing relevant health issues and help contribute to some innovative and fun projects during meetings for the newly formed Teen Health Awareness Club (THAC).  Activities planned include: Discussion of the topic of healthy eating at the next meeting with tasting and rating of snacks.   We will discuss participation in events to promote health such as fun run/walk, health fair and volunteer work.  Members compete to accumulate points in order to win prizes at the end of the year. NEW

-GSA to meet Friday!  The Gay-Straight Alliance will meet this Friday @ noon in Mr. Wheeler's classroom, L-28.  We will be electing officers.  Come join us and exercise your constitutional duty.  Bring your friends!



-Juniors! Are you interested in a career in law enforcement?  If so, you are invited to apply to the FBI's Fall 2012 Teen Academy.   This one day Academy will be held at the Sacramento FBI field office on November 30, from 8:00 - 6:00 pm.  Fun and educational FBI-related presentations and experiences will take place during the event.  Deadline to apply is Monday, October 28.  Come to the Career Center for an Application!

-Volunteers are needed for Korematsu Elementary School's Explorit Science Night on Wednesday, October 24 from 5:30-8:00 pm in Korematsu's MPR.   Volunteers will help elementary students conduct science activities and experiments. -Our First blood drive of the year will take place, Friday October 26.  Giving blood takes about an hour from start to finish and it is safe and easy.  To donate blood, you must be at least 16, weigh at least 110 and be free from cold or flu symptoms for at least 48 hours.  If interested, please sign up on the quad at lunch or at the nurse's office one day this week before Friday.   Walk-ins are accepted only if you are 18 or older.  For more information, see Mrs. Youtsey, the school nurse.



-Attention All DHS Instrumental Soloists - This year's annual DHS Orchestra Concerto Competition is being held Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 7:oo pm on stage in the DHS Brunelle Performance Hall.  It is open to all DHS instrumentalists.  The winner of this competition will be given the honor of performing with the DHS Symphony Orchestra at the Mondavi Center in Jackson Hall at the Wennberg Music  Festival on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 3:00 pm as well as a check for $300!  A sign-up sheet and informational flyer will be located starting next week, Monday October 22nd on the window of the computer lab in PA-3.  Deadline to sign up is December 21st.   Also, you must email Mr. Moreno after you sign up at amoreno at djusd.net<mailto:amoreno at djusd.net>.  In your email, please provide your name, instrument and the name of your piece.



-Thursday, October 25 is the deadline for submitting information and articles for the November 2012 DHS PTA newsletter.  Please send news, announcements, etc. to the DHS PTA Media listserve at DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org<mailto:DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org>

Please include your name and a parent or faculty name and contact information (email address and phone number) in case the newsletter editor has questions about your submission.  Also, please be sure to include a teacher or parent contact and his/her phone number or email address.  The newsletter is the only communication tool that reaches ALL DHS families whether they have internet access or not.  The newsletter is generally available around the 1st of each month.  This is a great way to inform, notify or enlist parents' help for upcoming DHS school and student activities.


-Parking: Starting November 1, the Davis Police Department will be ticketing drivers who park in the campus staff spaces without a current staff placard. Please also be mindful of signs that indicate no loading or unloading or right turn only as drivers can be ticketed at any time for these moving violations. For those who use the stadium lot, some of the spaces will be reassigned to assist in a safer loading and unloading area. So, please make sure to check the space before you pull in to make sure it is not a "staff only" space as some of these will be changed.


The DHS Blue and White Foundation is now accepting applications for the Student Activity Grant Program.  The goal of the program is to enhance the high school experience for any current DHS student.  Any DHS student may apply for funding to support curricular or extra-curricular activities during their sophomore, junior or senior year.  Examples of activities that may be considered for funding include academic conferences, sports training camps, fine art workshops, tutoring, extracurricular school essentials (i.e. costuming, sports equipment, musical instruments), etc.  Applications will be reviewed on a case-by- case basis and all grant awards will depend on the merit of the requests, the number of applicants and availability of funding.  The Student Activity Grant Program is for individual students only; applications can be submitted online at www.dhsblueandwhite.org<http://www.dhsblueandwhite.org>. -CABIN LEADER'S are needed for North Davis Elementary School's trip to Walker Creek on January 7-11. Cabin leaders must work well with children, and have an outgoing personality with an enthusiasm for the outdoors. Come to the Career Center for an application. Applications must be submitted to North Davis by October 30.

-Grad Night 2013!  Seniors, Grad Night tickets are at the lowest price now!  Tickets are $75 today or postmarked by December 31, 2012.  Prices will increase to $90 when purchased from January 1 through May 31, 2013 and $110 at the door.  Scholarships are available for seniors; talk to your counselor.  Davis Grad Night is Friday. June 7, 2013 from 9:30 pm to 5 am.  The event is an all night, alcohol-free/drug-free party for graduating seniors.  Grads must enter by midnight and bring photo ID.  Food, beverages, entertainment, dancing and activities are included!  ONLY DJUSD graduates eligible to walk at the graduation ceremony may attend.
