1974 - American David Kunst completed the first journey around the world on foot. It took four years and 21 pairs of shoes. He crossed four continents and walked 14,450 miles.

SPORTS PHYSICAL PAPERWORK NIGHTS: October 23 & 24: 6-8pm in the North Gym lobby. Turn in your completed paperwork and receive your athletic clearance card to present to your Winter coach on the first day of tryouts.
**If your student participated in a Fall sport, their concussion testing and paperwork clears them for the whole school year. If they choose to participate in a Winter sport, they need to come by the DHS Athletics Office or come to the paperwork night to pick up a copy of their clearance and emergency cards to give to the Winter coach.

-Seniors! Graduation cap/gown/tassel, graduation announcements Friday, October 5th during lunch and after school in the quad. Extra ordering packets are available in the office.
-Class Rings: Order your DHS Class Ring Friday, October 5th during lunch and after school in the quad. Deposit of $50. is required. Extra order packets are in the office.
-The Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) meets today @ lunchtime in Mr. Wheeler's classroom, L-28. Be part of the rainbow.
-If you are a club, sports team or group on campus and are interested in participating in the homecoming day parade, come to C-4 and pick up both an application for participation and permission slips for all those wishing to take part in the parade. All applications must be turned must be turned into C-4 by October 5th.

-Are you interested in HEALTH issues? Come test your communication skills, discuss relevant health issues and contribute to innovative and fun projects by joining the Teen Health Awareness Club (THAC). Activities will include: discussions of health articles of internationally recognized doctors, creation of a health meal and snack cookbook with sample testing during meetings, creation of a website/newsletter to highlight health topics, participation in fun run/walk, health fairs and volunteer work. There will be prizes awarded at the end of the year for the members accumulating the most points! The THAC will meet on Tuesday, October 9 at lunchtime in S-5, Ms. Moriarty's room. -Attention Juniors: The PSAT is coming soon! Signups for the PSAT are October 8th - 12th during lunch ONLY in the Large Conference Room. The test is on Saturday, October 20th from 7:45 to 11:30 am. The cost is only $24.00 and checks must be made payable to DHS or Davis Senior High. You must bring your photo ID to sign up and to take the test. 10th graders may sign up on Friday at lunch only. If you feel that this is a financial hardship, please contact your counselor immediately.
-Are you ready for the Jesuit vs. Davis soccer game? Three lucky fans that are pursuing victory with honor will be our fans for the game and get a Davis High T-shirt! Pursuing victory with honor means supporting your team with dignity. Good luck, Devils!
-Juan Melendez spent 17 years, 8 months and 1 day on Florida's death row for a crime he did not commit. He is coming to Davis High School to speak of his experience. Come to the IPAB on October 10th at 12:15 during lunch to hear him speak. Food or drinks are not allowed in the IPAB.
-Students: would you like to nominate a friend, club or group to be featured in the yearbook? If you know someone with an interesting story, please email their name, grade and a 1-2 sentence description to Mrs. Thomsen in C-3.
-Attention all Seniors! Remind your parents that Yearbook Senior Ad due dates are around the corner! 1/8 page ads are due October 19, ¼ page ads and ½ page ads are due November 16th. -Korematsu Elementary and Patwin Elementary still need high school boys and girls to be cabin leaders at Walker Creek Outdoor Ed camp for the week of Nov. 26-30. We are looking for more 10th, 11th and 12th grade leaders to join us that week. Please pick up applications at the Career Center and submit them to Korematsu Elementary by Wednesday, October 10.
-Community Idol! Come and join DHS's Advanced Treble Choir for an exciting evening of musical entertainment at Davis' own "Community Idol." On Saturday, October 6 at 7:00 pm, DHS's Brunelle Performance Hall will become the hotspot to experience Davis' own competition for local talented vocalists vying for the title of Community Idol. Contestants will have the opportunity to showcase their talent and wow the audience while competing before a professional judging panel for prizes. The evening will also include ATC's school year debut and a special performance by the local band and sensation, Brother Jimmie and the New Deal (featuring DJUSD Superintendent Winfred Roberson and DHS teacher, Chris Lee. Tickets are available at Watermelon Music (207 E Street) for $6.00 or from an ATC member prior to the competition. Tickets will also be available at the Brunelle Hall box office for $8.00 the evening of the event. All proceeds from the event will benefit ATC's music enrichment program.
-Reminder! Davis High School Jazz Choir will hold their third annual "Everybody Dance Now" dance competition to be held on Saturday, October 13 at 7:00 at the DHS Brunelle Theatre. Tickets available at Watermelon Music and Jazz Choir members ($5 student, $8 general admission) and will be $10 at the door!
-The DHS Band Boosters and volunteers from the DHS Band students are selling tickets for a raffle. The Grand prize is the very popular Google Nexus Computer Tablet. Other cool prizes being raffled are tickets to the Mondavi and gift certificates from Best Buy and Yolo Berry. The drawing will be held during the Davis High School Jazz Band Performance at the Jazz and Beat Festival on 10/20/12. Ticket holders do not have to be present to win and tickets are $5 each or $20 for 5 tickets. There are $10 gift certificates for Lamppost Pizza on each raffle ticket as well! Come and hear the DHS Jazz Band on 10/20/12 at University Commons Plaza at 5:00 pm and maybe win a great prize!
-Seniors! You must take an official Senior Portrait in order to be featured in the yearbook! You do not have to buy a package, but you must take a photo. -Seniors! It's not too soon to think about Grad Night 2013! The tickets are at their lowest price now - $75 until December 31. Scholarships available for qualified seniors; talk to your school counselor. Davis Grad Night is Friday, June 7, 2013 from 9:30 pm to 5:00 am. The event is an all-night, alcohol and drug-free party for graduating seniors. Grads must enter before midnight and bring photo ID. Food, beverages, entertainment, dancing, activities and more are provided. Only DJUSD graduates eligible to walk at their graduation ceremony may attend.
