-1945 - Phyllis Mae Daley received a commission in the U.S.<http://www.on-this-day.com/us> Navy Nurse Corps.  and later became the first African-American nurse to serve duty in World War II.

- AP sign-ups continue  today, March 8 after school ONLY until 1:30 (due to Articulation Schedule).  Bring your student ID and $90 cash or check payable to Davis Senior High School.  Test dates are May 7th-18th.

-Yo Yo Yo!  Friendship Day permission slips are due today, Thursday, March 8th.  Get them to the blue Friendship Day box at the Front Desk by then, Blue Crew!

-Athletes interested in participating in Blue Devil Diving are invited to a parent/athlete info meeting tonight, Thursday March 8 at 6:00 pm in DHS Room A-03.  For information, contact Girls Swim Coach Doug Wright at dwright at djusd.net<mailto:dwright at djusd.net> .

NEW
-The Blue and White Foundation is currently accepting applications for the Student Activity Grant.  Applications can be downloaded from our web site:  http://dhsblueandwhite.org . The deadline for this round of applications is April 1st.  These grants are for individual students, not student clubs.  The following is information regarding eligibility for the grant:



                Scholarship funds to support academic endeavors for incoming Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors attending Davis Senior High School.  These include Academic Society meetings/workshops/conferences, sports training camps, fine arts work shops/symposiums and assistance with funding for additional expenses related to extramural school activities i.e. costuming,sports equipment or musical instruments (rental or purchased).



                These funds must be used while students are attending Davis Senior High School.  Exception to this directive may be considered for the time period immediately prior to entering the high school or immediately following graduation, but prior to entering another academic institution.

-Would you like to learn more about West Point?  Kate Stark, a former DHS student, will be available in the Career Center N-17 on Monday, March 12 at lunch to discuss her experiences at West Point and to answer your questions.  Come to the Career Center N-17 for more information.

- The DHS World Language and Culture Fair will take place this Saturday March 10th, from 12:30-4pm in the south gym. Our list of activities has expanded with food, music, dance, cultural presentations, language arts and a 4-on-4 soccer tournament.  Please join us....Everyone is invited!

-SENIORS: It's scholarship time!  If you would like free money for college, then you should apply for scholarships!  Twenty-one local scholarships for Davis Sr. High h School students are currently being offered by the Davis community.   Come to the Career Center in N-17 for more information about these and other available scholarships!

-Are you interested in learning about aviation?  If so, come to the Career Center for information about a 4-day Aerospace Summer Camp, sponsored by the Aerospace Museum of California.  Each participant will take a short flight with a registered pilot!

-COMING NEXT WEEK -- THE ANNUAL SUMMER ACTIVITIES AND SCHOLARSHIP FAIR!!!  If you're looking for something to do this summer, need a job, or need extra money for college, you won't want to miss it.  The fair will feature job applications, scholarship applications, and information about volunteering and summer activities.  The fair will take place outside the Career Center N-17 on Tuesday, March 13 at lunch. See you there!

-Come see the Drama Department's production of 'Tartuffe!'  This hilarious comedy takes place in the 1960s and will be a fun, hippie-filled night of entertainment.  'Tartuffe' opens this Friday, March 9 and will run on Saturday, March 10, Thursday, March 15, Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17.  Show times are 7:00.  There will also be a show on Sunday, March 11 at 2:00 pm.  Tickets are $10. for students and can be purchased at the door or in advance from drama students.

-The Final CAML Test will be held Tuesday, March 13 at lunch in any math room.  This is the last opportunity for this semester to earn extra credit via the CAML tests

-AP Art Studio Acceptance list for 2012-13 has been posted in all art rooms!

-Do you enjoy art?  Please come to the High School AP Art Exhibit, upstairs at the Pence Gallery on D Street.  The exhibit is open through March 25th with a reception on March 9 at 6:00 pm.  The exhibit features amazing art by DHS and Da Vinci art students!
