-Come to the 'Break the Record Night' Black Light Dance after the Varsity Basketball game on Friday, February 10 in the Old Gym.  The Dance ends at midnight.  Tickets will be sold January 30th through February 3rd during lunch for $2 with ASB and $4 without.  After February 6th to February 10th, tickets will be $4 with an ASB and $6 without.  If you attended the "I'm On a Boat" Homecoming Dance, then you can get in free!

-Attention Students: It's cold and flu season!  If you have fever , diarrhea or have vomited, please stay home from school until you have been fever-free for 24 hours.  Use hand sanitizer and cover your coughs with your elbow.  Wash your hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds (sing Happy Birthday twice!)  Let's stay well this winter!  More tips can be found on the PTA List Serve for your parents.

-An informational meeting for boys in grades 9-12 interested in DHS Swim & Dive Team will be held on Wednesday, January 25 at 7 p.m. in room L-24 at DHS.  Both athletes and parents are invited to attend.

-Hey Blue Devils interested in a career in healthcare!  The informational meeting for the DHS Healthcare Career Club has been rescheduled to Wednesday, January 25 in S-2.  We apologize for any inconvenience.

-We are pleased to announce that DSHS has successfully submitted 2012 senior class verified GPA information for Cal Grants . This means students do not need to complete the paper GPA verification form to apply for a Cal Grant.  To be considered for a Cal Grant, students must submit the FAFSA by March 2.  Come to the Career Center N-17 if you have questions.

-Attention, students!  On Wednesday, January 25 from 7:30 to 9:00 pm in the DHS Library will be an informative event for you and your parents, called "Could Community College Be a Good Option for Your Student? "  This is the 2nd DHS PTA Parent Education event of the year featuring the Dean of Sacramento City College, Mr. Donald Palm and Ms. Cindy Bevc, Transfer Admissions Guarantee Manager for UC Davis.  This will be an informative evening presentation addressing many topics for students considering community college and later transfers to 4-year institutions. -Hey Math fans!  UC Davis is holding a tuition-free 9-week on-campus program to explore the worlds of mathematical finance, geometry and the quantum information theory.  Students will learn to think critically and develop skills for articulating mathematical concepts.  For more information, call Monday through Friday (530) 752-0827 or visit mathcircle at math.ucdavis.edu<mailto:mathcircle at math.ucdavis.edu> .  This program runs from January through March.

-Need help with math or want to train to compete in the American Regions Mathematics League Nor Cal Team in Las Vegas?  The Graduate students at UC Davis Nor Cal Team offer training in strong problem-solving skills beginning in January and running through May.   Classes are held every Monday night from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Math Science Bldg., Room 1147 on the UC Davis Campus.

-Attention Juniors and Seniors!  The Bank of America is now accepting applications for its Student Leaders Program.  If you are interested in improving your community, you can participate in an 8-week paid internship at a local nonprofit and attend a week-long Student Leadership Summit in Washington, DC!  Come to the Career Center in N-17.  The deadline to apply is January 25!

-SENIORS- Come by the Front Desk to check the spelling of your name on the diploma order list.  You will have until January 31, 2012 to make adjustments, if needed.

Cold and Flu Season Health Tips for Parents:   With cold and flu season at its peak at school, here are a few reminders of things you can do to keep your family healthy and minimize the spread of illness:


  *   If your child has a fever or vomits, please keep them home until they are fever-free for 24 hours.
  *   Please remind your child to use hand sanitizer liberally and cover their coughs with their elbows.
  *   Please remind children to wash their hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds (sing Happy Birthday twice).
  *   Please make sure your children get a good night's sleep so that they and their immune system are well-rested to learn and fight off flu bugs.
  *   If you do not have a doctor or medical insurance, please call the school and ask for a resource or to speak with the school nurse.
