DAY IN HISTORY
-On September 26, 1971, Baltimore Orioles pitcher Jim Palmer won his 20th game of the year, becoming the fourth Orioles pitcher to win 20 games in the 1971 season. This made the 1971 Orioles pitching staff the first since that of the 1920 Chicago White Sox to field four 20-game winners.

-There is a mandatory Peer Tutoring meeting Tuesday, September 27 at lunch in M-1.

-Internship Opportunity:  the Gap in Davis is offering an unpaid internship program for junior and senior students who are interested in learning about fashion, merchandising or business. Interns will learn all aspects of The Gap, including the hiring and training process, The Gap business concept, product receiving, displaying, and marketing, and more. Interns can start immediately. Days and hours are flexible. Contact Darcy Allen at 750-2706, or come to the Career Center in N-17 for more information.

-Hey DHS students! Come to Operation Smile's second meeting of the year Tuesday, Sept. 27 in L-21. We always welcome new members, so come learn about what you can do to help the organization.

-Are you looking to strengthen your transcripts for college? If so find out how to participate in community service activities during the high school events you plan to attend anyway...like football games and school dances. Limited effort required. If interested, please come to an information meeting Tuesday September 27 at lunch in M-1. Don't be shy. Ask a friendly teacher to join you.

-Are you good with languages? Do you think you are qualified to tutor your peers in French, Spanish, German, Japanese, Chinese or Korean? Please come to the Language Tutors' Club second general meeting in N-15 on Wesdnesday

-The Guitar Club meets at 12:00 on Tuesday, Sept. 27. New members and players of all styles and abilities are welcome.

-Dance Club is having its second general meeting on Tuesday, Sept 27.at lunch in the dance room. Join the club to enjoy the magic of dance. Anyone can join, everyone is welcome!

-Hey, what did you do this weekend? If you're a TOPPER don't fall behind. Keep up with the latest buzz soon to be all over Facebook. Tuesday at lunch, you can find the answer in M-1.

-Do you enjoy skateboarding? Would you like to improve more in one season than you thought possible?  Join the DHS Snowboard Team! We are one of the only co-ed teams on campus. Make some new friends and have fun on the slopes all winter long. The team is open to high school men and women. Interested students and parents can come to our information meeting on Tuesday, September 27 at DHS, Room N-8

-Are you interested in getting some community service hours while having fun? Come help serve dinner at the Annual DHS Hall of Fame dinner. There will be an informative meeting on Tuesday, September 27 in room C-04. Pizza will be provided. Hope to see you there!

-Attention: Juniors! The PSAT is coming soon!  Sign-up at lunch October 3 through October 7 in the large conference room.  The tests will be held on Saturday, October 15 from 7:45 to 11:30 am.  The cost is $24.00 and you must bring your student ID.  10th graders may sign up on Friday only.  If the fee is a hardship, please see your counselor as soon as possible to arrange for a fee waiver.  This is available on a first-come, first-serve basis only.

-Internship Opportunity: Davis Media Access is offering non-paid internships for students to gain hands-on experience and exposure to many aspects of community television production. Three internships are available in production and archiving. Come to the Career Center in room N-17 for internship descriptions and contact information.

-The contestants for the October 1 dance competition "Everybody Dance Now!" have been chosen! Visit the Jazz Choir website at www.dhsjazzchoir.org to see who will be performing that night! Advance tickets ($5 students and $8 general) are available from Jazz Choir members, at Watermelon Music and online via the Jazz Choir website. Tickets will also be sold at lunch on the DHS quad during the week of September 26. Remaining tickets will be sold at the door ($10 for all ages). Don't miss this great dance event!

-Seniors! It is time to tell your parents about yearbook senior ads. Please give them the packet that you received at the senior assembly or go to www.dhsyearbook.wordpress.com to download the forms.

-Davis Senior High School is seeking a parent/community member to serve on the School Site Council for the 2011-2012 school year.  The School Site Council discusses ways to improve student achievement and meets at Davis Senior High School on the fourth Thursday of each month at 3:00.   If you are interested in applying to serve, please contact Vice Principal Tom McHale at tmchale at djusd.net 

-Davis Senior High School's Scholarship and Financial Aid Office has a new name and a new location!  The office will now be called the "Career Center" and is located in the N-17 portable building behind the IPAB. The Career Center provides support and resources for students interested in colleges, scholarships, financial aid, jobs, volunteer and internship opportunities, summer activities, study abroad programs and military options. Students and parents are welcome to visit during office hours Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. We look forward to assisting Davis Senior High School students as they prepare for life after high school!  Come by on Monday to see what we have to offer!
