DAY IN HISTORY
-1893: New Zealand becomes the first country in the world to grant national voting rights to women. The bill was the outcome of years of suffragette meetings in towns and cities across the country, with women often traveling considerable distances to hear lectures and speeches, pass resolutions, and sign petitions.

-It's Homecoming Week!  So let's get ready to show some spirit! Spirit Week kicks off on Monday with "Mismatch Monday", "Toy Story Tuesday", "When You Were Young Wednesday", "Thursday Jerseday" and "Freakishly Blue Friday". There will be a spirit King & Queen who win each day, so make sure you participate!

-Attention all Math and Science Tutors, there will be a meeting Monday, September 19 for all new and prospective tutors. Please bring the completed application form with you to room S-09. All returning tutors should turn in their forms to Mr. Van Muyden by September 19.

-Are you interested in Korean culture or want to learn more about Korean culture? Come join the Korean Club. Our first meeting will be on Monday, September 19 in room P-20 at lunch. There will be free Korean snacks ready for everyone!

- CSF registration continues through Thursday, September 22.  Go to room P-13 during lunch to become a CSF member. Bring your spring semester report card (NOT a printout) or transcript, $5 application fee and your completed application form. See you all there!

-It's that time of year to volunteer! National Honor Society registration continues this week at lunch through Thursday, September 22. Bring your ID card, last semester grades, $5 and your hour sheet if you are a continuing member. We will continue registration in front of room S-12. See you there!

-Are you interested in discussing ways to make DHS a more welcoming place for all students? Come to our first DHS Climate Committee meeting on Wednesday, September 21 at 2:45 in room O-06. If you have questions, please see Ms. Floyd, Mrs. Diaz-Hess or Mr. McHale.

-Hey Juniors! Curious about the SAT, ACT, scholarships and Walker Creek? Want to learn more about these and other events from seniors who have personally experienced them? Then come to the Junior year presentation hosted by the Blue Devil Club on Tuesday, September 20 at lunch in room N-16. There will be food!

-Hey Sophomores! Want to learn about the PSAT, how to get to know your counselors and information about AP classes? Want to figure out how to make sophomore year look good for colleges? Then come to the sophomore year presentation hosted by the Blue Devil Club on Tuesday, September 20 at lunch in room N-10. There will be food!

-REMINDER to parents:
--Please do not use the staff parking lot on 14th Street for student pick up or drop off. Vehicles without a parking permit will be ticketed.
--Please do not use handicapped parking spaces in any of the parking lots for student pick up or drop off.
--Students may be dropped off in the Vet's Memorial parking lot, the stadium parking lot on Oak St. or in the drop off zone in front of DHS on 14th St.

-Seniors! It is time to tell your parents about yearbook senior ads. Please give them the packet that you received at the senior assembly or go to www.dhsyearbook.wordpress.com<http://www.dhsyearbook.wordpress.com> to download the forms.

-Davis Senior High School is seeking a parent/community member to serve on the School Site Council for the 2011-2012 school year.  The School Site Council discusses ways to improve student achievement and meets at Davis Senior High School on the fourth Thursday of each month at 3:00. -Davis Senior High School's Scholarship and Financial Aid Office has a new name and a new location!  The office will now be called the "Career Center" and is located in the N-17 portable building behind the IPAB. The Career Center provides support and resources for students interested in colleges, scholarships, financial aid, jobs, volunteer and internship opportunities, summer activities, study abroad programs and military options. Students and parents are welcome to visit during office hours Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. We look forward to assisting Davis Senior High School students as they prepare for life after high school!  Come by on Monday to see what we have to offer!

-Patwin & Korematsu Elementary Schools are recruiting cabin leaders for Outdoor Ed at Walker Creek, Nov. 29-Dec. 2  Students can pick-up applications at the DHS office. Forms are due by Oct. 7.
