DAY IN HISTORY
May 25, 1975: Grizzly bear is classified as a "threatened" species
In 1975, the grizzly bear--once the undisputed king of the western wilderness--is given federal protection as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act.
TODAY
1. Cafeteria: Chicken or veggie chow mein with fried rice, sushi with fresh melon, pizza, sandwich, cheeseburger.
2. Pick up your yearbook during lunch and 7th period all week!! Books are $90. Autograph sections are $3.00 or 2 for $5.
3. Grad Night tickets will be on sale every day at lunch on the quad. Tickets are $90 before May 31st and $110 at the door. This is also a good time to drop off your kindergarten photo if you haven't done so already.
4. May 25 is the deadline to submit articles to the June DHS PTA newsletter. Send articles to dhsptamedia at mailman.dcn.org<mailto:dhsptamedia at mailman.dcn.org> along with your name and the name of a parent.
5. Come out to the stadium tonight at 7:00pm for this year's Powder Puff game and find out which class has the most sass. Hope to see you there!!
6. The Davis High combined bands will perform tonight, Wed May 25, in a free "Picnic & Pops" concert at the Davis Farmer's Market at 6 pm. Come and enjoy a selection of classical and pops music, along with tunes from the Big Band era by Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman.
7. Tryouts for the DHS Men's Basketball Summer Teams begin next week. They are being held in the DHS New Gym Monday, May 23rd through Friday, May 27th. Varsity players are asked to come from 4-5:30 pm. JV and freshmen (this includes 8th graders) players are asked to come from 5:30-7 pm. SENIOR REMINDERS
1. This notice is a reminder to pick up your four free graduation tickets. Please pick up to three more tickets at $8 each and you must do so by Wednesday, June 1. Tickets are available at the Finance Office window from 7:15-7:45am at lunch and after school from 2:30-4:00pm.
2. Seniors: All graduates will wear their blue caps during the graduation ceremony. DO NOT alter or decorate your cap in anyway. Thank you, Administration.
3. SENIORS: Don't forget to fill out a PERMANENT ADDRESS CARD if you haven't already. Turn in completed cards into the Front Desk. Extra cards are available at the Counseling Office or the Front Desk.
4. Seniors: If you will be attending Sac City Community College next year, please check your e-mail (including your SPAM). Many registration dates and times were changed!
5. Seniors: Pay all owed lunch fees with cash or check to the Kitchen before June 9th or your diploma may be withheld.
6. Jostens will be here on Friday, May 27 at lunch for you to pick up your cap and gowns. Be there!!!
7. SENIORS: Don't forget to request your FINAL TRANSCRIPT to be sent to the college you will be attending. Bring in a stamped addressed envelope to the Transcript Counter and follow the posted instructions. If your common application college is requesting submission of a final report- you will need to make a request at the transcript counter. Stamped addressed envelope is not needed.
8. All seniors should receive a survey from the HUB in English class today. If you don't receive one, come to L-20 to make sure you are included in our list of where you're going to college next year!!!

1. The DHS Site Council will meet this Thursday, May 26 at 3:00 in the Library West Conference Room. Everyone is welcome to attend.
2. Join the sport of Field Hockey this fall! Girls entering grades 9-12: there will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, June 1st at 6:00pm in DHS room N-08. Come learn about the sport and what is planned for the upcoming season. 3. Senior Awards Night is almost here! ALL SENIORS are invited and encouraged to come and support their classmates at Senior Awards Night on Tuesday, May 31 at 7:00 p.m. in the IPAB. This is a fun and enthusiastic event and we look forward to seeing you and your family there! Now posted are the names of all students receiving scholarships, awards, or special recognition at Senior Awards Night! Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office to see if your name is on the list of student's receiving recognition at the event! Also, if you are the recipient of any outside scholarships or awards please come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office no later than Thursday, May 26 and sign the "Outside Award" list. These awards will be announced at Senior Awards Night. Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office if you have any questions about Senior Awards Night.
4. JUNIORS: College Application Workshop will be Thursday during lunchtime in the South Gym.
5. The Floral Design class is pre-selling orchid leis for graduation. Orders are due Thursday to Ms. Schulte in room 01a to guarantee the order. The Leis will be special ordered this Friday from the San Francisco Flower market and we will have beautiful blue dyed leis. Leis cost $30 and will be conveniently ready for seniors to pick up immediately following graduation practice Friday morning. Order forms are available in Mr. Morgan's room C4, Ms. Schulte's room 01A, and at the window when you purchase your tickets.
6. Plan to attend the POPS CONCERT FEATURING THE ADVANCED TREBLE CHOIR AND MADRIGAL SINGERS as they present an evening of song from the musical hits of yesterday and today on THURSDAY, JUNE 2 at 7 p.m. at Richard Brunelle Performing Building on the DHS campus. $6 Pre-sale tickets are available at Watermelon Music until June 1. $8 tickets are available at the door on the night of the performance. Intermission treats will be available.
7. "GIRLS ONLY!" It's time to gear up for the Girls' Tennis season next fall. We will have an informational meeting Tuesday, May 31st at 4:00 in DHS room P-10. Players and parents are invited. If you have any questions, please call coach Sally Hosley at 400-9711.
8. Don't miss Jazz-N-Pops, the final DHS concert of the school year, featuring the talents of the Jazz Choir, Concert Choir, and Combo! You'll hear music from the Broadway Musical "Chicago", "Avenue Q", "Spamalot", "Hairspray" and more! Performance is Saturday, June 4th at 7:30 at the Brunelle Hall (IPAB). Tickets are available through choir members and at the door. Tickets are $5.00 for students and $8.00 for adults in advance; at the door all tickets are $10.00. 1. All Physical Education students! Friday, May 27th is the last day to complete PE make ups in the gym at lunch! Independent Lifetime Sports students! If your sport is over you still need to be working out at least 4 days a week and turning in a signed activity log! See your teacher if you have any questions.
2. Are you done with your SAT, ACT, and AP exam prep books?? Bring them to the office or library for donation between now and the last day of school for a chance to win a cool prize. 3. Juniors: Learn about the college application process for UC/CSU's: College Workshop on May 26 lunch time in the South Gym.
4. This year's senior song for graduation is "Vienna" by Billy Joel. DHS Class of 2011 graduates are eligible to audition to sing in the "Senior Choir" which will be directed by Mr. Zinn. Auditions will be held on Tuesday, May 31st during lunch in room PA8. Copies of the music are available in room PA8 this week.
