DAY IN HISTORY

May 19, 1984: Gretzky and Messier lead Oilers to championship
On May 19, 1984, one dynasty ends and another begins when the Edmonton Oilers defeat the New York<http://www.history.com/topics/new-york> Islanders 5-2 to win the Stanley Cup. The Oilers had been swept by New York in the finals the year before, but the team's talent had matured, and their offensive onslaught overwhelmed the four-time defending champs.

TODAY

1. Cafeteria: Pasta Day-Mac and cheese with broccoli, ravioli/spaghetti with meat sauce and bread stick, pizza, sandwich.

2. Come to Cultive this Thursday, May 19th from 4-11pm to support the DHS Freedom from Hunger Club. Just mention the club's name with your purchase.

3. Attention Powder Puff Players. Practices will be held Monday the 16th through Thursday the 19th and Monday the 23rd and Tuesday the 24th. Both teams will practice from 5:00 to 7:00pm each day rain or shine. Attendance will affect playing time. So go as many as times as you can.

4. Attention all girls interested in trying out for Davis High Schools GIRLS Volleyball in the fall, come check our OPEN GYM times starting on May 19. Open gyms will be from 4-6pm in the South Gym at Davis High. Please feel free to check out our website for the specific dates. 5. Juniors: If applying to private colleges, plan on attending the Private College Workshop on May 19, lunchtime in the South Gym.

SENIOR REMINDERS

1. SENIORS: Don't forget to fill out a PERMANENT ADDRESS CARD if you haven't already. Turn in completed cards into the Front Desk. Extra cards are available at the Counseling Office or the Front Desk.

2. Seniors: If you will be attending Sac City Community College next year, please check your e-mail (including your SPAM). Many registration dates and times were changed!

3. Seniors: Pay all owed lunch fees with cash or check to the Kitchen before June 9th or your diploma may be withheld.

4. Jostens will be here on Friday, May 27 at lunch for you to pick up your cap and gowns. Be there!!!

5. SENIORS: Don't forget to request your FINAL TRANSCRIPT to be sent to the college you will be attending. Bring in a stamped addressed envelope to the Transcript Counter and follow the posted instructions. If your common application college is requesting submission of a final report- you will need to make a request at the transcript counter. Stamped addressed envelope is not needed.

NEW

1. All Physical Education students! Friday May 27th is the last day to complete PE make ups in the gym at lunch! Independent Lifetime Sports students! If your sport is over you still need to be working out at least 4 days a week and turning in a signed activity log! See your teacher if you have any questions.

2. Are you looking to spruce up your graduation look? If so, the DHS Floral Design class is selling lei's made of either blue or purple orchids! Order forms are in the front office and C-4.

3. Grad Night Myth #4-It doesn't matter when I buy my ticket-Myth Busted!! Not only does the price go up from $90 to $110 after May 31st, money from those ticket sold after May 31st will fund next year's Grad Night. Tickets will be on sale during lunch everyday next week.

4. Don't miss Jazz-N-Pops, the final DHS concert of the school year, featuring the talents of the Jazz Choir, Concert Choir, and Combo! You'll hear music from the Broadway Musical "Chicago", "Avenue Q", "Spamalot", "Hairspray" and more!  Performance is Saturday, June 4th at 7:30 at the Brunelle Hall (IPAB). Tickets are available through choir members and at the door. Tickets are $5.00 for students and $8.00 for adults in advance; at the door all tickets are $10.00. 5. CURRENT UPDATE ON SUMMER CLASSES AT SACRAMENTO CITY COLLEGE: Don Palm, Dean for the SCC Davis Center would like to inform high school students that all summer session classes at Sacramento City College are full. The wait lists are also full with continuing and new college students. High school students will not be considered for summer session classes on May 19 & 20. Mr. Palm sincerely regrets that the continuing state government stalemate has affected all high school students. Please check next year's course requests in Zangle Student Connect to ensure you are registered for required courses.

6. The City of Davis is hiring DHS students for a one day school orientation for incoming sophomores. They are looking for current students to give tours of the campus, lead group games, and answer questions. Apply online at : http://cityofdavis.org/jobs/parttime.cfm

7. Tryouts for the DHS Men's Basketball Summer Teams begin next week.  They are being held in the DHS New Gym Monday, May 23rd through Friday, May 27th.  Varsity players are asked to come from 4 - 5:30 pm. JV and freshmen (this includes 8th graders) players are asked to come from 5:30 - 7 pm. 1. The time has come seniors!!! The Blue and White yearbook is here to blow your minds on Friday, May 20th for you only. Pick up is at lunch and after school. Junior distribution is on Monday, May 23rd and sophomore distribution is on Tuesday the 24th. This yearbook will sell out soon so buy yours at yearbooksforever.com or in A-7. $82 this week and $90 during distribution so buy yours today!!!

2. Are you done with your SAT, ACT, and AP exam prep books?? Bring them to the office or library for donation between now and the last day of school for a chance to win a cool prize. 3. Girls entering grades 8-12 who are interested in playing basketball for DHS this summer: There will be an informational meeting at 6:00pm on May 23rd in the South Gym at DHS. Varsity Coach Karen Foster will be answering questions and letting parents and players know what is planned.

4. Juniors: Learn about the college application process for UC/CSU's: College Workshop on May 26 lunch time in the South Gym.

5. Any student who arrives on campus 5 or more minutes prior to the start of class has 2 choices: go to the library or sit at the blue tables near the tennis courts. Students who remain on campus for athletic practices or for any other reason must also go to the library or sit at blue tables by tennis courts. Students may not sit in any other areas on campus.
