May 9, 1955: West Germany joins NATO
Ten years after the Nazis<http://www.history.com/topics/nazi-party> were defeated in World War II<http://www.history.com/topics/world-war-ii>, West Germany formally joins the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), a mutual defense group aimed at containing Soviet expansion in Europe. This action marked the final step of West Germany's integration into the Western European defense system.

REMINDER


1. Any student who arrives on campus 5 or more minutes prior to the start of class has 2 choices: go to the library or sit at the blue tables near the tennis courts. Students who remain on campus for athletic practices or for any other reason must also go to the library or sit at blue tables by tennis courts. Students may not sit in any other areas on campus.

2. SENIORS: Don't forget to fill out a PERMANENT ADDRESS CARD if you haven't already. Turn in completed cards to the Front Desk. Extra cards are available at the Counseling Office or the Front Desk.

1. Parking tickets will be issued for students parking in staff marked spots starting on Monday, May 9th so please make sure that you park in

2. SENIORS: Have you received any scholarships or awards not administered by the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office, such as scholarships from colleges or outside organizations? If so, please come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office and sign the "Outside Award" list. These awards will be announced at Senior Awards Night, which is scheduled for Tuesday, May 31 at 7:00pm in the IPAB.  See you in the Scholarship Office soon!

2. Important announcement for Senior Ball Buses. The 3rd Bus (Bus letter "C") is not completely full and needs 15 more riders to avoid CANCELLATION. Please come to the Senior Ball Bus table today at lunch to speak to Mr. Curley and to take advantage of this safe and cheap opportunity to ride to the ball!

1. There will be a parent/player preseason meeting for all players interested in playing varsity, junior varsity and freshman football at DHS this coming year. This mandatory meeting will be held in the library at DHS on Thursday, May 12th at 7:00 pm. All players and one of their parents or guardians are required to attend.
