May 4, 1965: Willie Mays breaks National League home run record
On May 4, 1965, San Francisco<http://www.history.com/topics/san-francisco> Giants outfielder Willie Mays hits his 512th career home run to break Mel Ott's National League record for home runs. Mays would finish his career with 660 home runs, good for third on the all-time list at the time of his retirement.

REMINDER


1. Jostens will be here on Friday, May 6 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. on the quad.

2. If you are a junior or senior of the female gender, this upcoming announcement is crucial to your life at DHS. It is the season of DHS Powder Puff football and you ARE interested. Information packets are available in the front office and C-4 and they are due Friday, May 6th. Just do it!!

3. SENIORS: Don't forget to fill out a PERMANENT ADDRESS CARD if you haven't already. Turn in completed cards to the Front Desk. Extra cards are available at the Counseling Office or the Front Desk.

1. SENIORS: Did you apply for a local scholarship? Names of scholarship recipients are starting to arrive, so check the announcement board outside the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office to see if your name is on the list of recipients!

2. The City of Davis will be holding another Battle of the Bands on Friday, May 6th from 8-10 pm at the Veterans' Memorial Center Theater. The show will feature high school bands, and every audience member will automatically be entered to win an Ipod shuffle! 3. Any student who arrives on campus 5 or more minutes prior to the start of class has 2 choices: go to the library or sit at the blue tables near the tennis courts. Students who remain on campus for athletic practices or for any other reason must also go to the library or sit at blue tables by tennis courts. Students may not sit in any other areas on campus.

4. ATTENTION all Senior Ball Guests. RIDE UNITRANS! If you are looking for a safe and fun way for you, your date and 36 friends to travel to the Sheraton, come to the Senior Ball tables to RIDE THE BUS! You'll need $15 CASH ONLY, a student ID card and Field Trip Forms 2a and 2b for each person. Buses will drop you off and pick up at the tennis courts here at the high school. Bus ticket sales begin Thursday at lunch. SEATS ARE LIMITED!

5. DHS PTA DRIVER SAFETY PARENT ED NIGHT MAY 11 Space limited and sign up required. Please join us in the DHS library on May 11 from 7pm to 10 pm for the Alive at 25: Safe Driver, Safe Passenger program. This program is for parents and teens who want to learn how to be a good driver and how to be a good passenger! Gail Kelly will answer questions and offer tips on how to get a driver's license, rules of the road and address parent questions and driving concerns. It promises to be an informative and enriching night. 6. Jazz Choir Boys 2nd audition application deadline is this Friday, May 6th. If you missed the first round this is your chance.

7. Attention all 9th through 12th grade students who are interested in being part of the Davis Schools Robotics Team. We just returned from the World Championship in St. Louis where our robot competed with the best and made it into the quarter finals. We are looking for students to be part of our team for next year.  Here are some of the areas in which we need help: Mechanical, Electrical, Programming, Design, Media, Business, Team Management. If you are interested in helping in any of these areas, please come to our next meeting at Da Vinci High School, 1400 East 8th Street, Room 19 on Wednesday, May 4th at 2:30-5:30 (come whenever you get out of school). We look forward to seeing you.

2 BSU will be selling hand-made Mother's Day cards on Wednesday through Friday out on the quad. Prices range from $2.50 to $5. Don't miss out!!

3. Do you want to see Mr. Haws 'Ball it up' or see Mrs. Mach dunk on her students?? Come watch the magic happen for free at the Student/Staff basketball game on Wednesday, May 4th at 7:00pm in "The Cage" (old gym).

1. Save the Date! Sports Physical Clinic on Saturday, June 4th from 8:30-11:30am at Sutter Family Practice a $20 donation benefits DHS Athletics. Students in grades 7-12 are encouraged to complete their sports physicals this spring for the 2011-12 school year. Sports physical packets are currently being updated and should be available on the DHS website and at school offices by late May.

2. The Advanced Treble Choir will be holding auditions for the 2011-12 school year on May 19th in room PA-8 at Davis High School. Anyone interested can pick up an application at DHS, room PA8, or in your school office or you may download the forms @ www.dhstreblechoir.org<http://www.dhstreblechoir.org/>. The deadline for applications is May 5th.

3. SENIORS: Don't forget to request your FINAL TRANSCRIPT to be sent to the college you will be attending. Bring in a stamped addressed envelope to the Transcript Counter and follow the posted instructions.

4. Do you have a sick ride that you want to show off?? If you do, sign up for the DHS Annual Car Show! Applications are in C-4 or the front office and they are due May 10th. Vroooooooooommmm!!!
