March 25, 1967 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. leads march against the Vietnam War

The Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., lead a march of 5,000 antiwar demonstrators in Chicago on this day. In an address to the demonstrators, King declared that the Vietnam War was "a blasphemy against all that America stands for." King first began speaking out against American involvement in Vietnam in the summer of 1965. In addition to his moral objections to the war, he argued that the war diverted money and attention from domestic programs to aid the poor.

1. Are you interested in learning more about Nagoya University in Japan?  Nagoya is a research-intensive university based near Tokyo, and is well-known for its departments in Natural and Physical Sciences, Engineering, Medicine and Agriculture.  Come to the large conference room Monday at lunch to speak with a Nagoya University representative.

2. Are you interested in joining the DHS Academic Decathlon team for next year? If so, come to an informational meeting next Tuesday, March 29, at 7:00 in S-9 at the high school.

3. Interested in applying to be a part of Student Government next year? Applications are available on Monday March 28 in your school's Leadership Classrooms. They are due to Vice Principals by Friday April 15. Following the submission of an application, personal and group interviews will be scheduled to round out the application process.

4. Attention all 9thgrade musicians: DHS Orchestra will conduct two auditions for 2011-2012 school year. The 1st audition group is the "DHS Symphony Orchestra", which is an advanced level full symphony orchestra open to string, woodwind, brass, and percussion players. The 2nd audition orchestra is the "DHS Baroque Ensemble" open to violin, viola, cello, bass and keyboard players who are interested in learning to play the Harpsichord. Auditions will be held in the IPAB, Room PA-3 Apr 11-18. Sign up deadline has been extended to Tuesday March 29th. Signup sheets and informational flyers are in your school music room. If you are unable to decide by March 29th email me ASAP and explain your situation. 5. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: The Volunteer Program at Camp Putah is now accepting applications from teens entering grades 8-11. Volunteers assist staff members throughout the week in all camp activities. Volunteers gain experience in leadership and teamwork skills, child management and day camp operation procedures. Being a Camp Putah volunteer is a fun and memorable way to spend your summer! Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office for more information.

6. Kaiser is now offering its Kaiser Launch High School Summer Youth Employment Program for juniors and seniors. The program provides paid summer work experience at Kaiser Permanente facilities in California to encourage students to consider a career in a health care-related field. You will be paid for your time working on a Kaiser department and will learn about the wide variety of career options available in the health care field. Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office for more information.
7. Hi everyone! Have you ever wondered what the basics of being a Christian are or why your friends go to church? Do you want to know what the Bible is about and who Jesus Christ is? Come to N-11 on Tuesdays at lunch to see for yourselves what Christianity means?

1. Cafeteria: Meatloaf with mashed potatoes and corn on the cob, pizza, sandwich, cheeseburger with sweet potato fries.

2. Last call for the student/staff basketball game submissions. If you are a student who wants to play, so turn in your name at C-4 by Friday.

3. Come to the Gay Straight Alliance this Friday in L-10 at lunch. Come help us get ready for Day of Silence and upcoming events. Everyone is welcome.

4. CSF Elections are this Friday at lunch in P-13. All sophomores and juniors should attend this important CSF meeting.

5. Attention all Math and Science Tutors: We'll be holding officer elections this coming Friday, March 25 in S-9! Be sure to show up or else you won't get to vote!

6. Spots are still available for the 2011 City of Davis So-Cal Safari. Join us as we tour 6 Southern California universities for only $490. Applications are due Friday, March 25. 1. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Student volunteers are needed to help at UC Davis' annual Picnic Day on April 16.  Volunteers will help with animal events, entertainment venues, children's fair, information booths and more! Volunteers who work at least two hours will receive a free Picnic Day volunteer t-shirt and food! Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office for more information

2. The DHS Yearbook Staff is looking for talented, creative, and dedicated writers, photographers and layout designers to work on the 2011-2012 year book for next year. Applications are due this Friday, March 25th! Pick them up in A-7, the front officer, or find us on Facebook.

3. The all-district Choral Concert is Tuesday, March 29th, 7:00 p.m. at the Brunelle Performance Hall! Come experience the awesome music and voices of the Advanced Treble Choir, Concert Choir, Jazz Choir, and Madrigals. Also featured are the Harper and Holmes Junior High Choirs, and the North Davis Intermediate Chorus. The event is free and open to the public.

4. Thursday, March 31st, the second annual BREAK THE RECORD NIGHT RETURNS FOR DHS BOYS LACROSSE. Come one, come all. Classmates, friends, families and members of the community are all invited to come out to Halden Field, Ron and Mary and Brown Stadium on Thursday, March 31st to support the DHS Boys Lacrosse on Break the Record Night as they take on Sir Francis Drake. The team will attempt to break the record for the largest attendance for a lacrosse game in the city of Davis. JV game will start at 5:30PM with the Varsity game to follow at 7:30pm. Burritos, pizza, snacks, drinks and Lacrosse wear will be available for purchase during both JV and Varsity games. Bob Dunning will kick things off by taking the first ceremonial shot on goal. The Davis High Dance team will perform at half-time and all youth lacrosse players will be acknowledged. Come join the fun and be a part of breaking the record.
