Jun 2, 1865: American Civil War ends
In an event that is generally regarded as marking the end of the Civil War<http://www.history.com/topics/american-civil-war>, Confederate General Edmund Kirby Smith, commander of Confederate forces west of the Mississippi<http://www.history.com/topics/mississippi>, signs the surrender terms offered by Union negotiators. With Smith's surrender, the last Confederate army ceased to exist, bringing a formal end to the bloodiest four years in U.S. history.

Plan to attend the POPS CONCERT FEATURING THE ADVANCED TREBLE CHOIR AND MADRIGAL SINGERS as they present an evening of song from the musical hits of yesterday and today on THURSDAY, JUNE 2 at 7 p.m. at Richard Brunelle Performing Building on the DHS campus. $6 Pre-sale tickets are available at Watermelon Music until June 1. $8 tickets are available at the door on the night of the performance. Intermission treats will be available.

SENIOR REMINDERS

1. SENIORS: Did you miss Senior Awards Night? If your name is on the list outside the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office, you may have a certificate waiting for you! Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office to pick up your certificate and a Senior Awards Night program!

2. SENIORS: If you still need cap, gown and tassel please come to front office to give your name and height. We will give this information to Jostens and you will be able to pick them up after Graduation practice on Friday, June 10th. The cost is $50 and they will only be accepting CASH!!!

3. SENIORS: Don't forget to fill out a PERMANENT ADDRESS CARD if you haven't already. Turn in completed cards into the Front Desk. Extra cards are available at the Counseling Office or the Front Desk.

4. Seniors: Pay all owed lunch fees with cash or check to the Kitchen before June 9th or your diploma may be withheld.

5. SENIORS: Don't forget to request your FINAL TRANSCRIPT to be sent to the college you will be attending. Bring in a stamped addressed envelope to the Transcript Counter and follow the posted instructions. If your common application college is requesting submission of a final report- you will need to make a request at the transcript counter. Stamped addressed envelope is not needed.

NEW

1. Sophomores and juniors, do you love to dance? Then start practicing over the summer for the Jazz Choir's 2nd annual dance competition on Oct. 1st! You can compete solo or with a friend to win cash prizes, any style of dance is fine. More information will be available when school begins in August.

2. Come and enjoy the annual Jazz on a Summers Eve DHS Jazz Band concert at 7:30 pm, Friday June 3, at the Brunelle Performance Hall. The evening will include swing tunes, Latin numbers and jazz ballads. Donations will be accepted at the door.

3. Attention all math and science tutors: there will be a general meeting this Friday, June 3rd in S-9. This is our last meeting of the year, so be sure to show up.

4. Attention: Juniors' who have enrolled in the Advancement Placement English course for their senior year, please check out the suggested summer reading list posted on the doors of classroom L-15 and P-22.

5. Sports Physical Clinic Saturday, June 4th from 8:30-11:30am @ Sutter Family Medicine, 2030 Sutter Place, Suite 2000. $20 donation benefits DHS Athletics. Students entering grades 7-12 are encouraged to complete their sports physicals this spring for the 2011-12 school year. Sports physical packets are available in the junior high and high school offices and will be available soon to download from the DHS website at:  www.davisseniorhigh.net<http://www.davisseniorhigh.net/>. 6. Attention Runners and Jumpers of all ages! Davis Senior High's Freedom from Hunger Club is hosting an all-comer track meet on Saturday, June 18th. This track meet will take place at the Ron and Mary Brown stadium with the first event beginning at 9:00 and registration beginning at 8:00. In addition, this event will offer games and entertainment for the whole family. Track and Field events include a 5k or 3200m, 1600m, 800m, sprints, hurdles, pole vault, high jump, triple jump, long jump, and more. Proceeds from this event will be donated to the Freedom from Hunger Organization which brings innovative and sustainable self-help solutions to the fight against chronic hunger and poverty. 1. Don't miss Jazz-N-Pops, the final DHS concert of the school year, featuring the talents of the Jazz Choir, Concert Choir, and Combo! You'll hear music from the Broadway Musical "Chicago", "Avenue Q", "Spamalot", "Hairspray" and more! Performance is Saturday, June 4th at 7:30 at the Brunelle Hall (IPAB). Tickets are available through choir members and at the door. Tickets are $5.00 for students and $8.00 for adults in advance; at the door all tickets are $10.00. 2. Are you done with your SAT, ACT, and AP exam prep books?? Bring them to the office or library for donation between now and the last day of school for a chance to win a cool prize.
