CAHSEE SCHEDULE

CAHSEE Information! Testing will be Tuesday, February 1st -Wednesday, February 2nd.

  *   Please look for the posted information in you classrooms!
  *   Sophomores will report to the following locations:
  *   Students with the last names starting with Abdel-Ghaffar to Oler need to report to the New Gym.
Students with the last names starting with Oliver to Zufelt need to report to the Old Gym.

  *   Bring school ID
  *   DO NOT BRING CELLULAR PHONES! Upon entrance to the testing room you will be asked to turn in your phone with us. If your phone goes off you will be escorted from the test and your test will be invalid.

Schedule Change. Tuesday, February 1-7:45-2:30: 1, 3, 5 & 7 (Testing 1, 3 & 5); Wednesday, February 2: 8:55-2:30; 2, 4, & 6 (Testing 2 & 4); Thursday, February 3: 7:45-3:30; 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, & 7; Friday, February 4; 7:45- 3:30; 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, & 7.

DAY IN HISTORY

Jan 25, 1924: First Winter Olympics
On January 25, 1924, the first Winter Olympics take off in style at Chamonix in the French Alps. Spectators were thrilled by the ski jump and bobsled as well as 12 other events involving a total of six sports. The "International Winter Sports Week," as it was known, was a great success, and in 1928 the International Olympic Committee (IOC) officially designated the Winter Games, staged in St. Moritz, Switzerland, as the second Winter Olympics.

REMINDER

1. The City of Davis Teen Programs will be hosting the Battle of the Bands on January 28, 2011 from 8-11pm. The concert will take place at the Brunelle Theater at Davis Senior High School, as 5 local high school bands compete for over $200 in prizes. This event is only for high school students and tickets cost $6 at the door.

NEW

1. SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS: Would you like to do research at UC Davis this summer? The UC Davis Young Scholars Program offers summer research opportunities in biology and the natural sciences for 40 high achieving high school students. Participants work closely with university research faculty in state-of-the-art laboratories and field stations, and reside in university dormitories for six weeks. The program runs from June 19 - July 30, 2011. Applications are due March 31, 2011. This is a fee-based program, but need based financial assistance is available. Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office for more information, or go online to http://ysp.ucdavis.edu

2. On February 9th  form 7-9pm at North Davis Elementary School the Dean of Sac City and the UCD Transfer Admissions officer will discuss Sacramento City College's new location plans, give detailed information on how to prepare for transfer to a 4 year university, and answer parent and student questions. Everyone is invited!

3. The Auto Shop is looking for a few good TA's. If you need a class to TA for, see Mr. Thayer in the Auto Shop room O-3.

4. JUNIORS: Are you interested in a career in law enforcement?  The Sacramento Division of the FBI is inviting high schools to nominate one junior to apply to the Teen Academy Class of 2011.  In addition to presentations from the FBI Recruiter, Primary Firearms Instructor, SWAT Team Leader, Evidence Response Team Leader and Special Agent Bomb Technician, students will receive briefings regarding programs such as Cyber Crime, Health Care Fraud and Violent Crime.  The Academy will meet on March 4, 2011 from 8:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m.  Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office for more information.

TODAY

1. Cafeteria: Chili Cheese Nachos, fish sandwich, mandarin chicken over rice, pizza, grilled cheese and tomato soup.

2. Come check out Chinese Club today at lunch in room N-15A to learn more about Chinese Culture and celebrate China's rich history.

3. All Spring Semester Independent Lifetime Sports students are to meet on the first day of the second semester, Tuesday, January 25th in the old gym during 7th period. We will be meeting for the entire period. Any questions please see your assigned teacher immediately.

1. All first semester Independent lifetime sports students are to meet at lunch in the NEW GYM instead of the old gym.  Trokanski's class will still meet in the dance room.
