DAY IN HISTORY

Congress certifies Bush winner of 2000 elections
After a bitterly contested election, Vice President Al Gore presides over a joint session of Congress that certifies George W. Bush as the winner of the 2000 election. In one of the closest Presidential elections in U.S. history, George W. Bush was finally declared the winner more then five weeks after the election due to the disputed Florida ballots.

REMINDER

1. On Wednesday, January 12th there will be no Collaboration Day. Periods 1, 2, 4 and 6 will meet starting at 7:45 on Wednesday.

NEW

1. "Step into the Spotlight"! Davis Senior High School's Advanced Treble Choir presents "Davis Idol". All performances at the Brunelle Theater beginning at 7pm. Preliminary nights: Friday, January 21 and Saturday, January 22, presale tickets $6 and at the door $8. Final night Saturday, January 29, presale tickets $10 and at the door $12. Presale for all 3 nights only $20!
Tickets will be available on the quad on January 19th and January 20th. Tickets are also available at Watermelon Music or contact an ATC member.

2. Attention all seniors!! Senior quotes are due by January 7th. You may email quotes to: hanayla at yahoo.com<mailto:hanayla at yahoo.com> or drop your quote off at the front office or came into A-7 during lunch January 3rd through the 7th. Seniors who miss the deadline will have a "famous words of wisdom" quote selected for them.


3. On Sunday January 9th at 3 p.m. the Madrigals along with the Williamette Chamber Choir will be presenting a concert at St. James Catholic Church, 1275 B Street. This performance is free and open to the public. Two recent Davis High Madrigal graduates, Carmelle Hyson and Sam Mintzmyer will be performing in the Williamette Choir.


4. Need extra credit for your math class? Then CAML Test #4 will be at lunch in any math room on Tuesday, January 11. Ask you math teacher about extra-credit possibilities.

5. Boys in grades 9-12 interested in the DHS Boys Golf team: An informational meeting for new and returning players and their parents will be held on January 11th at 7:00 pm at DHS in room N-5. 6. All girls grades 9-12 interested in DHS Girls Softball: there will be a preseason informational meeting this Friday, Jan. 7th at 4:00pm in the DHS quad.

7. Join other music lovers on Monday, January 10th at lunch in the choir room PA-08 for a performance by the Willamette University Jazz Choir! Please eat beforehand as there is NO food allowed in the performing arts building.

8. DHS Girls Swim Team Parent and Athlete Meeting will be held on January 19th at 7:00pm in DHS room A-3. This will be an informational meeting for girls in grades 9-12 who are interested in swimming on the DHS Girls Swim Team.

9. Dodgeball captains please make sure to turn in your teams' permission slips by next Tuesday. Also, we will be opening the old gym at lunch for the next 2 weeks to warm up for dodgeball season.

10. Hey CSF members! We will be having a general meeting this Friday at lunch in P-13. This is the last meeting of the semester, so don't forget to come if you need those required meetings for active membership. See you all there!

2. Seniors; Graduation Caps/Gowns/Tassels, Announcements & Class Rings make-up day ordering is Thursday, January 6th during lunch and after school in the quad. Deposit required is $40.00. Extra ordering packets are available in the office.

3. (REALLY LOUD) Friendship day is the best, so much better then some darn test! The next Friendship Day is the Friday! Don't forget to turn your permission slip into the front office by this Thursday!! Friendship Day! Friendship Day! Friendship Day!

1. Looking for a summer job? Mark your calendars! The City of Davis is holding its annual Job Fair on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 from 4:00pm-6:00pm in the Veteran's Memorial Center Multipurpose Room. The City is seeking energetic and motivated individuals to apply for positions such as Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, Pool Cashiers, Day Camp Leaders, Playground Leaders, Gymnastics Coaches and more! Don't miss this event! Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office for more information.

2. The Davis FFA Chapter and FFA Boosters will be having a Work Day at the FFA Barn this Saturday, January 8. Students and Parents, please join us at 8:30am to get started. We'll have some donuts and something hot to drink for those of you who come early to help! Please dress warmly and bring the following items with you, if you have them, for the work day: gloves, shovel, other fix-it items (all labeled please) as well as large trash bags. For those of you who come and work at least an hour, arriving by 11:00, there will be a pizza lunch provided. 3. There will be an informational meeting for all 9th thru 12th grade girls interested in trying out for the DHS varsity and junior varsity soccer teams, and who have questions about the tryout process. The meeting will be on Wednesday, January 12th, at 7:00 in Room N-8 at DHS. Workouts will begin on Feb. 1 for 9th and 10th graders with conditioning. 11th and 12th graders will report on Feb.7. Times for all days are 4:00, at DHS Yudin Field. Players should bring water, soccer shoes, shin guards, and running shoes, as well as the completed athletic participation forms. Students who filed a Physician's Certification Form for 2010 fall or winter sports do not need to bring a new form but should bring their blue sports emergency card. Forms can be obtained in the school offices and will also be available at the meeting. Please note that there are games scheduled during the vacation the last week of February and during spring break.
