ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY: On this day in 1937, the airship Hindenburg, the largest dirigible ever built and the pride of Nazi Germany, bursts into flames upon touching its mooring mast in Lakehurst, New Jersey, killing 36 passengers and crewmembers.

	*	Davis High School cheerleading tryouts continue TODAY, in the DHS Dance Room. The tryout clinic runs from 4 to 6 p.m. and TODAY is the last day of the clinic. Tryouts are in front of a panel of judges begin at 4 p.m. on Friday. Signed applications are due on Monday. To learn about the team or to download an application, visit http://www.dhscheer.org. 	*	Come see the Drama Department's last show of the year, "Out on a Limb". Join us for an evening of capitalism, creationism, unicorns, dead raccoons, ducks, space mountain and much more. Shows run from TODAY to May 7th, all at 7pm. Don't miss out! Be there or be triangular!

	*	Hey, DHS Science Experts...we are not content with merely winning the National Championship in the Science League Chemistry competition last year.  We want to repeat the feat, and also be champions in physics and biology as well!  If you want to help, come to S-11 or S-12 TODAY at lunch to take the Physics exam, and come to S-8 at lunch on Friday next week, to take the Chemistry exam.  Go Blue Devils for a Scientific Sweep hat trick!

	*	Davis World Cup 2010, the premier annual AYSO Select Soccer Tournament held in Davis is quickly approaching.  Memorial Day Weekend, May 29th - May 31st,  over 150 teams throughout the state will come to Davis and compete.  AYSO needs your help! 	*	SENIORS:  Did you apply for a local scholarship?  If so, check the announcement board outside the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office to see if your name is on the list of recipients!

	*	SENIORS:  Have you been the recipient of any scholarships or awards not administered by the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office, including those from the college you will attend in the fall?  If so, please come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office and sign the "Outside Award" list.  These awards will be announced at Senior Awards Night, which is scheduled for Tuesday, June 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Theater.

	*	STEAC "Kids Helping Kids" food/clothing drive May 3 - May 14.   Search through your closets and join in the on-going effort to clothe the needy Yolo County children by dropping off gently worn and clean clothing and shoes at school sites. STEAC is also accepting donations of non-perishable food items.  A STEAC collection box is located in the front office.

	*	Love to play tennis? Enjoy working out with other tennis gals? Then you won't want to miss the informational meeting about the Fall 2010 DHS Girls Tennis Team.  Join us for a meeting on Monday, May 10 at 3:45 by the high school tennis courts and the IPAB.  Parents are welcome. Questions? 	*	Sports Physical Day at Sutter Davis is Saturday, June 5th from 8:30-11:30am at Sutter Family Practice, 2030 Sutter Place Suite 2000. Why wait? Students in grades 7-12 are encouraged to complete their sports physicals this spring at Sutter West Medical Group for the 2010-11 school year. Coaches strongly recommend that you take this opportunity to get your physicals early so that you can be ready to participate in early tryouts. Your $20 donations will benefit the DHS Athletics Department. 	*	Seniors planning to go to community college next year should register ASAP to get first priority for courses.

	*	Attention Seniors:  Do you have a teacher that you would like to nominate as an Honorary Guest at this year's graduation?  Please stop by Teri Furlow's desk and pick-up an Honorary Graduation Guest Request by Friday, May 14th

	*	Now through May 22 - Yolo Berry Yogurt Challenge - Go, purchase a frozen yogurt for each member of your family and ask that a tally mark be put next to the name of your school.  The school with the most tally marks by May 22 will receive art supplies for the school and gift cards for each student.  Yolo Berry has donated $1,000 to the Davis Schools Foundation, and will add another $500 in honor of the winning school after May 22.  Go eat yogurt and show your school spirit!

	*	Lake Tahoe Community College is offering it's popular "Intensive Spanish Summer Institute" again this year!  Students can earn units of credit in courses designed to promote the development of fluency in Spanish.  This week-long course is scheduled for August 8-13 and will include all levels of the Spanish language, along with several breakout sessions from cooking to art, dancing and music, history and holidays, family customs and celebrations, etc.  High school students and adults are welcome to apply.  The program fills up fast, so come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office soon for more information!

	*	The Davis Schools Foundation is sponsoring a Student Video Contest.  Judges are looking for students to creatively demonstrate why supporting Davis Schools Foundation  (DSF) is important. Videos can be musical, a skit, humorous, serious and should focus on some awesome activities or programs in Davis schools that funding from DSF will help to save. Winners will receive $100 Target gift cards and winning videos will also be posted on You Tube and the DSF website. Students who do not have access to video equipment can use facilities and equipment at Davis Media Access. The deadline is May 7th.
