ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  John Updike is born.  Pulitzer Prize-winning author John Updike is born in the small town of Shillington, Pennsylvania. The only child of a math teacher father and aspiring writer mother, Updike developed an early love for reading and drawing and won a scholarship to Harvard.

TODAY

	*	Come audition for the Drama Department's show "A Tribute to Tony Fields".  Singing and acting auditions are TODAY at 2:45.  This year Tony fields will include Thriller, Monologues from a Chorus Line, a Michael Jackson medley, and other great pieces.  Go to P-11 for more information.

NEW

	*	Interested in traveling to Italy/Greece?  Please attend a student meeting on Monday, March 22 during lunchtime in room P14.  The trip is being planned for June 2011.  Information about the trip and costs will be available at the meeting.  Kevin Williams and Courtenay Tessler have details about the trip.

	*	Blue Devil Women's Soccer will face archrivals St. Francis this Saturday, March 20, at the new Halden Stadium.  Junior Varsity plays at 5:00 pm and Varsity takes the field at 7:00 pm.  Admission will be as follows:  Adults-$5.  Students with Davis ASB card and children 6 and under-free.  Students without ASB card-$3.  Seniors 65+-$2.  Children 8-11 with parent/guardian-$2.

	*	We want to know where you're going after high school! Acceptance notices from colleges are finally starting to arrive and decisions are being made about life after high school!  Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office and sign the WHERE ARE YOU GOING!!! list and tell us if you'll be going to college, working, joining the military, traveling, studying abroad, or whatever your plans are.  See you soon in the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office (located next to counseling).

	*	Interested in learning about West Point?  If so, come to the large conference room in the admin building on Tuesday, March 23 at lunch to speak to a West Point cadet.

	*	Attention junior boys interested in government!  Would you like to attend an all expense paid work-study camp to help you understand the structure and workings of our government?  If so, you should apply for the California American Legion Boys State program.  The event will be held on the CSU campus from June 19-26.  Those who apply must be strong academically, have leadership skills, and an interest in community and government.  Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid office by March 31 to apply.

	*	Attention all students:  if you have an interest in designing, editing and publishing the prestigious Davis Senior High Yearbook, and joining the class for the 2010-11 book, stop by the office or A-7 to pick up an application and set-up an interview.  The deadline is Friday, March 26 so don't miss out on one of the best experiences DHS offers!  This application does get competitive, so we recommend you really go the extra mile.

	*	All aboard the Friendship Ship!  Toot!  Toot!  Do you have what it takes to be a Friendship Day facilitator?  Then come pick up an application in Mr. Williams' room. P-14, starting Thursday, March 18.  Completed applications are due Friday, April 2 to Mr. Williams.

	*	The Third Annual special Davis High School baseball game at Raley Field will be on Friday, March 19 against Jesuit.  The JV game will start at 3 pm and the Varsity game will start at 6:30 pm.  The games are free and the gates open at 2 pm, however, parking is $8.00.  The River Cats concessions will be open to purchase food.  Please come out and support the DHS baseball team.  Go Blue Devils!

	*	Yearbook is now accepting applications for the 2011 yearbook staff.  Please come by A-7 and pick up an application.  Applications are due by Friday, March 19.
	*	Calling all doodlers!  Enter the Doodle for Google contest where students design the Google logo alongside the theme "If I Could Do Anything, I Would". The winning doodler will have his or her artwork viewed by millions on the Google homepage, win a college scholarship, and earn a computer for the school!  Please see Ms. Diem for details or log on to google.com/doodle4google. Entries are due by March 31st.
	*	Are you interested in being in student government next year?  Or maybe class officer?  Class and election applications are now available in the front office.  The applications will be due in C-4 by Friday the 19th.  Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity.
	*	Unitrans service on the P/Q buses and other all-day lines will be on special schedules March 16-26, because of UCD finals and spring break. The S and T lines are NOT affected and will run as they normally do. Please consult Unitrans schedules or web page (www.unitrans.com <outbind://20/www.unitrans.com>) or call 752-BUSS for details. Finals service will be running on March 16-19. Break service will be running March 22-23. Saturday/holiday service will be running March 24-26, but with added trips on the P, Q, J, W, and O lines starting at 7:00 and 8:00 am. During the week of March 22-26, Unitrans will run extra buses on the P and Q lines to accommodate dismissal times.The added buses will leave DHS at 2:40 pm Mon-Fri and at 3:40 pm on Mon, Tue, and Friday.
