ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY: First liquid-fueled rocket. The first man to give hope to dreams of space travel is American Robert H. Goddard, who successfully launches the world's first liquid-fueled rocket at Auburn, Massachusetts, on March 16, 1926. The rocket traveled for 2.5 seconds at a speed of about 60 mph, reaching an altitude of 41 feet and landing 184 feet away.

* Cultural Exchange Club meets TODAY during lunch in P-14 (Mr. Williams' room). We'll see you there!
* THE ANNUAL SUMMER ACTIVITIES AND SCHOLARSHIP FAIR IS TODAY AT LUNCH outside the administration building!! If you're looking for something to do this summer, need a job OR need extra money for college, you won't want to miss it. The fair will feature job applications, scholarship applications, and information about volunteering and summer activities. See you there!
* All students who submitted portfolios for AP Art Studio must pick up their portfolios TODAY. The 2010-11 AP Art Studio ACCEPTANCE list is posted in all art rooms.
* Love to take pictures? Or have an interest in photography and want some helpful tips from your classmates? Come to A-2 during lunch TODAY for the first Photography Club meeting. We'll have officer elections and discuss what the club will do. If you have any questions, ask James Stanton for more details.

* Would you like to find out more about a career in fashion, interior design, digital media, graphics, or merchandise marketing? If so, come to the large conference room at lunch on Monday, March 22 to meet with a representative from The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, also known as FIDM.
* Audition times are now posted in your music rooms for DHS Orchestras 2010-11 school year. If for some reason you did not sign up or you know someone who should, email me ASAP so I can factor them in at amoreno at djusd.k12.ca.us <mailto:amoreno at djusd.k12.ca.us> . If there is a conflict with your time let me know ASAP so I can attempt to resolve the issue. Make sure you pick up a "Registration" form and have it filled out and ready to turn in before you arrive for your audition time. It is recommended that you arrive at the DHS IPAB at least 15 min prior to your audition time to warm up. Good luck to all of you on your auditions. I look forward to hearing you.
* Unitrans service on the P/Q buses and other all-day lines will be on special schedules March 16-26, because of UCD finals and spring break. The S and T lines are NOT affected and will run as they normally do. Please consult Unitrans schedules or web page (www.unitrans.com <outbind://20/www.unitrans.com>) or call 752-BUSS for details. Finals service will be running on March 16-19. Break service will be running March 22-23. Saturday/holiday service will be running March 24-26, but with added trips on the P, Q, J, W, and O lines starting at 7:00 and 8:00 am. During the week of March 22-26, Unitrans will run extra buses on the P and Q lines to accommodate dismissal times.The added buses will leave DHS at 2:40 pm Mon-Fri and at 3:40 pm on Mon, Tue, and Friday.

* JUNIORS: Would you like to participate in an all-expense paid leadership camp this summer? Camp Royal, funded and run by Rotary District 5160, is a premier leadership-training opportunity for high school juniors. The program, held each June in the mountains of northern California, is a concentrated, energy packed week of information, ideas and strategies that will help the camper return to his or her school a more effective leader. This year, Camp Royal 2010 will be held from June 13 - 19. The deadline to apply is this Friday, March 19. Come to the Scholarship Office for more information.
* The Third Annual special Davis High School baseball game at Raley Field will be on Friday, March 19 against Jesuit. The JV game will start at 3 pm and the Varsity game will start at 6:30 pm. The games are free and the gates open at 2 pm, however, parking is $8.00. The River Cats concessions will be open to purchase food. Please come out and support the DHS baseball team. Go Blue Devils!
* Yearbook is now accepting applications for the 2011 yearbook staff. Please come by A-7 and pick up an application. Applications are due by Friday, March 19.
* Wednesday, March 17, is the deadline for submitting information and articles for the April 2010 Davis High School PTA newsletter. Please send news, announcements, etc. to the DHS PTA Media listserver at DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org <mailto:DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org>. Please include your name, e-mail address and phone number in case the newsletter editor has questions about your submission. The newsletter is the ONLY communication tool that reaches ALL DHS families, whether they have Internet access or not. The newsletter is generally available at the beginning of each month. This is a great way to inform, notify or enlist parents' help for upcoming DHS school and student activities.
* Acme announces "As You Like It" auditions. All current 9th-12th graders are invited to audition for Acme Theatre Company's upcoming production of William Shakespeare's "As You Like It". Roles are available for actors and dancers. Auditions will be held on Sunday, March 14-Wednesday, March 17 at the Davis Art Center's Outdoor stage. The winning doodler will have his or her artwork viewed by millions on the Google homepage, win a college scholarship, and earn a computer for the school! * Are you interested in being in student government next year? Or maybe class officer? Class and election applications are now available in the front office. The applications will be due in C-4 by Friday the 19th. Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity.

Advance sale only $90 or $110 at the door. See your counselor if you qualify for free lunch and you may be eligible for a scholarship for this activity.
