ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  Newly elected President John F. Kennedy issues an executive order establishing the Peace Corps. It proved to be one of the most innovative and highly publicized Cold War programs set up by the United States. From the very beginning of the program, thousands of Americans -especially young people - flocked to serve in dozens of nations, particularly in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

	*	SENIORS:  Last chance!  Cap/gown/tassel and DHS graduation announcement ordering is Tuesday, March 2 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the quad.  Also, DHS class rings will be available for pick-up and ordering!  $50 deposit required to order.

	*	SENIORS:  Cal Grant and FAFSA deadline is Tuesday, March 2.  If you received a postcard saying we cannot submit Cal Grant information for you because we don't have your social security number, come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office, located next to counseling, ASAP.  You cannot be considered for a Cal Grant without this information.  If you have any questions about Cal Grants or the FAFSA, come to the Scholarship Office!

	*	For an inside look at local government, be sure to pick up a Youth in Government application from the front office, and turn it back in to the office by Tuesday, March 2.  What would you do if you were in charge for a day?

	*	Cultural Exchange Club meeting this Tuesday, March 2 at lunch in P-14 (Mr. William's room).  Come learn about an exciting two-week exchange program in China this summer!  All expenses in China will be covered by the program, so don't miss out on this unique opportunity!  Everyone is welcome!

	*	According to a monitoring group, there are 926 active hate groups in the United States, 84 in California alone.  Come see the Drama department's production of God's Country March 5, 6, 11, 12, and 13 at 7 pm and March 7 at 2 pm in the IPAB.  Tickets are $8 for students.  Bring a group of 10 or more and you get a buck off each ticket.  The show is for mature audiences and deals with the frightening reality of racism in our country by exploring the inner workings of a white supremacist group called The Order.  But hate is not a thing of the past.  Come help us stop hate.

	*	Our Freestyle Wrestling Season will begin March 3rd and we encourage ALL students, male or female who have an interest in wrestling, as well as all wrestlers, to attend. It's a great opportunity to learn and practice wrestling, keep in shape, and compete if you desire.  Let's help build the DHS WRESTLING team of the future! 	*	Would you like an internship position this summer?  County of Yolo is offering students ages 15-19 internships in County public service departments, such as Agriculture, Cooperative Extension, Public Health, Administration, Public Works, Employment, Social Services, and Parks and Resources.  Internships are unpaid, but students will receive community service credit.  Deadline to apply is May 14.  Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office for more information.

	*	Attention all 9th grade musicians:  Davis High School Orchestra Program will conduct two auditions for 2010-2011. The first audition group is "DHS Symphony Orchestra", which is an advanced level full symphony orchestra open to string, woodwind, brass, and percussion players. The second audition orchestra is the "DHS Baroque Ensemble" open to violin, viola, cello, bass and keyboard players who are interested in learning to play the Harpsichord. Auditions will be held in the IPAB, Room PA-3 starting March 18-26. 	*	If you received notification that you were selected as a National Merit Finalist, come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office to pick up your certificate!
