DAY IN HISTORY
December 3, 1989 Bush and Gorbachev Suggest the Cold War is Coming to an End
On this day, during their meeting off the coast of Malta, President George Bush and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev issued statements strongly suggesting that the long-standing animosities at the core of the Cold War might be coming to an end. Gorbachev stated, "The characteristics of the Cold War should be abandoned." Bush commented, "We stand at the threshold of a brand-new era of U.S.-Soviet relations." Some commentators in both the United States and Russia went farther and declared that the Cold War was over.

2. Calling all new and returning Davis High School Track and Field Athletes: Now is the time to get ready for the 2011 season.
