ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  Wilson asks for declaration of war. On this day in 1917, President Woodrow Wilson asks Congress to send U.S. troops into battle against Germany in World War I. In his address to Congress that day, Wilson lamented "it is a fearful thing to lead this great peaceful people into war." Four days later, Congress obliged and declared war on Germany.

TODAY  

	*	Did you go to North Davis Elementary School?  Remember 4th grade?  Remember Mr. Felton?  This North Davis Elementary teacher is retiring after 33 years.  A memory book is being created for him and comments from former students are needed!  Come to the Scholarship and Financial Aid Office TODAY and sign Mr. Felton's memory book!  

	*	Attention juniors and sophomores!  Are you interested in participating in Academic Decathlon for next year?  If so, come to Mr. Van Muyden's room TODAY at lunch.  Everyone is welcome!

	*	Reminder to Juniors: Make sure to put your course requests online at: https://student.sis.djusd.net./ as well as turn in the paper planner with your teacher/parent signatures.  Everything is due in classes TODAY. 

	*	97% of students in public high schools report regularly hearing homophobic remarks from their peers, and gay teens are more likely to consider suicide than straight ones.  You can help raise awareness about this issue by signing up to participate in Day of Silence TODAY at the GSA booth at the club's fair.

	*	Do you have bottle-throwing capabilities?  Do you want a ride on the friendship ship?  Bring your caboosh to the friendship day crew and bust out your moves.  Turn in your applications TODAY.  Drive safe!
 
	*	Do you know any talented basketball players who aren't on the team?  Have them sign-up for the Student vs. Staff basketball game!  The sign-up sheet will be in C-4 and will be out until TODAY.

	*	Davis High School Orchestra's audition results are now posted in music rooms. Things to remember:  to complete the audition process if you are NOT intending on accepting your group placement, you must email me ASAP, by the deadline of Friday April 16th at:
		amoreno at djusd.k12.ca.us <mailto:amoreno at djusd.k12.ca.us>.  It is very important to communicate your intentions because your seat will need to be filled from our waiting list. When you email me please indicate full name, instrument, student ID #, and your reason for not accepting.  If you need an extension of time, email me your request and give me the date by which you expect to make your decision. If you are accepting your seat in an audition orchestra, do nothing. Your name and ID number will be submitted to the DHS Counselors and you

	*	The Spring Blood Drive is coming up, right after spring break on April 16.  If you are 16 or older, weigh more than 110 lbs., and have no recent tattoos, you are good to go!  Sign up for an appointment beginning April 12.  Look for Drippy the Giant Blood Drop at lunch in the quad, or go to the nurse's office for information.  Blue Devils save lives!

	*	The Davis High School Cheer squad is looking for students with school spirit who love to dance, tumble and stunt. Come learn about DHS Cheer at one of two Cheer Information Nights, 7 p.m. on April 21 and 22 in Room O-7 at DHS. Students in grades 8-11 are invited to try out  - both girls and boys! A try-out clinic runs 4 to 6 p.m. May 3-7 in the DHS Dance Room. Try-outs are all day on Saturday, May 8, in the DHS Dance Room. 	*	Attention spring cleaners!  If you run across old cell phones, ink jet cartridges, or non-refurbished laser cartridges, please bring them to the large white box in the small copy room by the reception desk.  It's empty and hungry for your donations.  Donations for these items are accepted all year long.  Thank you from the Special Ed department.

	*	On April 15th Davis High School athletic department will provide an athletic recruitment seminar for student-athletes and parents.  Julian Jenkins from the National Collegiate Scouting Association will be presenting.  The seminar begins at 7 pm in the old Davis high school gym and will last one hour.   The seminar will cover the following: 1) As a high school student-athlete, how do I get recruited to play sports in college? 2) NCAA Eligibility Center- what does it take academically to be eligible for recruitment. 3) Be Realistic: Not everyone is a Division 1 level athlete. 4) Your coach alone is not responsible for getting you a scholarship!  5) Strategies on how to maximize an athlete's recruiting potential.  This is a great opportunity for parents and students to get valuable information on the realities of the college recruiting process. 	*	Got a sick whip?  If you do, the car show is right around the corner.  Pick up a packet in the front office.  This years' competition is now open to teachers and parents, so be sure to grad a packet because they're due April 21st.
