Teacher and performer Tom Peron has a very successful career, performing
with the great pianist Jessica Williams in the 1980?s before forming
another successful group with San Francisco drummer Bud Spangler. Since the
early 1980?s, Tom Peron and his groups have performed for audiences at the
Monterey Jazz Festival, KRML's Jazz Store in Carmel, Yoshi's, Pearl's,
Heart & Soul, and the Museum of Modern Art, all in San Francisco. In
addition to his busy performance schedule, Tom Peron also teaches at
Watermelon Music in Davis and at the University of the Pacific.



Phil Elwood, music critic for the *San Francisco Examiner*, has written,
"As for trumpeter/composer Peron, one is encouraged to say, 'just listen,'
and move on - astonished at his playing, versatility, imagination and
technical facility. Master of his horn, with 'good ears,' as Lester Young
would have said, Peron has created his own style, his own sound, out of
jazz roots. Very few trumpeters out there are Peron's equal, let alone his
better,"

Hi all,

On Saturday, May 6th, all of the concert and jazz bands from throughout the DJUSD junior and senior high schools will be performing in Central Park in a performance we have titled, ?The Festival of the Arts.? New to this event are performances of the jazz bands, showcasing the wonderful band ensembles we have throughout this district.

Here is the schedule for the day:
10:00am - 10:25am: Emerson/Da Vinci Jazz Band
10:25am - 10:50am: Emerson/Da Vinci Concert Band
10:50am - 11:15am: Harper Junior High Jazz Band
11:15am - 11:40am: Harper Junior High Concert Band
11:40am - 12:05pm: Holmes Junior High Jazz Band
12:05pm - 12:30pm: Holmes Junior High Concert Band
12:30pm - 12:55pm: DHS Jazz Band
12:55pm ? ~1:30pm: DHS Combined Symphonic and Concert Bands

The call time for the DHS Bands (ALL MEMBERS from Concert, Jazz, and Symphonic) is 12:00pm (NOON).

Attire: Everyone will wear their Blue DHS Band Polo and blue jeans. You do not need to wear a specific type of shoe, but you may not be barefoot for this event.

Everyone is responsible for bringing the following on their own to this event:
            ? Musical instrument
            ? Sheet music
            ? Additional equipment, as necessary (e.g. sticks, mallets, mutes, etc?)

Stage Crew Managers for Symphonic and Jazz Bands ? Chiara, Aaron, and Marissa ? will have a sign-up sheet posted soon for assistance in producing this event. If you need (or would like) to earn ?You Choose? points, please sign up for this shift when the list is posted:
Noon to 2:30pm ? We will be setting up the two ensembles at the same time and everyone will be seated as soon as possible after 12:30pm Hence, we need a lot of help with chairs, equipment moving, music stand moving, sounds system set-up, and associated organization before, during, and after the concert. This event is worth +50 points per participants.

*Special Note: I realize this is the same day as the SAT test. If you are participating in this test, please contact Mr. Slabaugh ASAP to make arrangements for your late arrival.

WEATHER: In the event the weather is inclement (yes, it rained out last year), I will send a notification via email if the event is cancelled. If you do not receive an email, the event is happening.

At the concert on May 2nd, we will be recognizing graduating seniors in a slide show on the second half of the concert. As such, please send me two scanned photos of your student for this event. The first should be when they are toddlers, a ?munchkin? picture (as I call it) and a graduating senior picture. I will have them complete an information sheet and recognize them for their involvement and share with the audience their future plans. As the date is quickly approaching, please send me the pictures at your earliest opportunity.

Hi Everyone:

Thanks to everyone who has signed up to transport students and chaperones
to and from the airport. We are hoping to fill up the cars so as to
minimize the number of drivers needed.  Drivers, since you have entered
your name as a driver, please work with your student to identify other
students/chaperones that you can transport, and enter their names in your
carpool row in the sign up sheet.  In a week or so, we will start trying to
fill in any empty spots in the carpool vehicles and make sure that all
students and chaperones have transportation.

Also, please remember that we need to organize the carpools both to the
airport on 5/18/17 and back from the airport on 5/23/17.  Each group and
each day is a separate tab on the spreadsheet.

Also, if you have not submitted a DJUSD Driver Form, please do as soon as
possible. A link to the form is provided below.

Friday, May 12th: California State Band and Orchestra Festival at the UC Davis Mondavi Center
Symphonic Band Only Performs

Itinerary:
Arrive in DHS Room PA-3: 10:15am
Load vehicles and depart: 11:00am
Arrive at UC Davis: ~11:20am

We will be dropped off on Old Davis Road, next to the Mondavi Center. Mr. Slabaugh will check the ensemble in while everyone else unloads the vehicles. Please wait for instructions at the drop off location when Mr. Slabaugh returns from the check in.

Lunch: 12:00 to 12:30pm ? Please bring your lunch, as there are not many places to purchase food and drink at the Mondavi Center. We will eat in the Mondavi Center courtyard, weather permitting. If you need assistance, please speak with Mr. Slabaugh individually.

Enter Warm up room: 12:45pm
Performance Begins: 1:25pm
Ensemble Formal Photo: 2:00pm
Load the vehicles at Mondavi Center: ~2:30pm
Depart UC Davis: ~2:45pm (approximately)
Arrive at DHS: ~3:00 (approximately)
