Hi all,

Following my motorcycle accident in April, some health issues were discovered during my ICU stay. Since that time, I’ve been visiting a number of physicians for treatment and testing. Several issues have been addressed and I am in better shape, physically, because of these treatments.

However, a month ago I learned that I have an intermediate stage of prostate cancer. To date, testing has not shown it to be metastatic but they will not know for sure until after I have surgery. It will be a robotically assisted radical prostatectomy. I completed a surgery consult today and the surgery is scheduled for August 22, 2019. I will be off of work for between 4-6 weeks, with an exact timeline being determined by my recovery progress and the surgeon’s recommendation.

I’m physically feeling OK, but freely admit that I am scared. While I’m comforted in knowing that the survivability of this type of cancer at this stage is high (about 97%), I don’t know how my life will change and this concerns me greatly. Cancer treatment is always a “game” of probability, with my current situation showing the odds in my favor. This is good news.

I suspect I will need some assistance immediately following the surgery, but I have a strong and wonderful group of family and friends who are able to help. What I am asking for now, and how you can be most helpful to me, is to share your best wishes, thoughts, and prayers with me. I was incredibly humbled in the outpouring I received following my motorcycle accident in April and found it so helpful in my recovery. If you are so willing, I believe your gestures will help me again as I go through this moment.

Thanks for reading. Blessings to you all.
