One combo will be playing that day, and the band will attend an evening concert. The group will be staying at Circus Circus Reno on Friday night. After attending and playing at the festival on Saturday, the band will depart Reno at 6:00 pm and are expected to arrive in Davis by 9:00 pm. There are no longer any performances on Friday April 26th. Both combos and the full band are playing on Saturday. Therefore, we will be leaving later on Friday to get up to the festival for the evening concert. The bus will arrive at 1 pm. Students will be loading their bags and instruments onto the bus during 5th period Jazz Band. Those who have a six period class will then go to their 6th period class. After 6th period is done, the students will be asked to arrive at the bus for a 2:50 pm departure. We will be providing sandwiches or another type of similar dinner for students to eat on the bus. Please look for our next email regarding the medical form for medications to be taken during the trip. If your child will be needing any medication, please carefully read and fill out this attached form and have it signed by a doctor. The signed form and medications will need to be brought on Friday, April 26 when the students depart. Though, if possible, please return the form by email to Lori Ferguson at lori_ferguson at me.com before April 26, so all that needs to be brought on the day of the trip will be the medications. This will help with the organization of the paperwork ahead of time. All medications will need to be in their original packaging. The first circumstance is that Tom Slabaugh is still recovering from his motorcycle accident and would not be able to participate in the trip. I was hoping to find a substitute for Tom on the trip, but then circumstance #2 arose. I was informed by Tom McHale that the trip was not approved by the school board. When asked he informed me that Tom Slabaugh had not completed the proper forms for the trip. This is something that Tom S. had been working with Matt Best, assistant superintendent. Tom S had submitted the online information, but evidently was missing some document but was never notified until last week before his accident. He then contacted Matt Best and began working with him and was assured it could be handled. I?m not exactly sure what changed. I?m not sure if it was the combination of the two events that caused the trip to be cancelled by the DHS principle, but both Tom S and I were surprised when this decision was rendered today because we were still working on arrangements for the trip. I have further inquiries out and will relay any information I discover. Feel free to let your voices be heard by the Principle, the School board, and the District superintendent. Please see that attached meeting minutes from the last meeting, and the below agenda for tomorrow night. -Approval of Minutes- Band Directors report? ? 2 Festivals ? ? Reno Cancellation -Sr. Concert planning-Disney Trip/End of Year Party-Victoria Planning-Open officer positions for next year? ?? SAVE the DATES to HELP: Mr. Slabaugh sent emails today regarding band festivals and performances on May 4 and May 11.? We will be needing parent and student volunteers.? SignUP Genius announcements coming soon! The April meeting included a discussion of annual band trips (see minutes for details), and it was unanimously agreed by those present that annual trips provide valuable alternative educational and performance opportunities for the students, and agreed that next May 2020 will be the Victoria Trip, which has been very well received by current and past students and families.? This trip to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, is to attend a celebration of Canada's annual Victoria Day.? We plan to include a music clinic (likely at either University of Washington or University of Puget Sound), and performances at the Victoria Day celebration events and around the city of Victoria.??This trip will take a lot of planning, and one of the lessons learned this year was to starting planning the trips one year in advance, so that means now!? Melinda Grow, one of the co-leaders for the Disney trip, has graciously agreed to co-lead the Victoria Trip...but?we need another person to be a co-leader to help plan the trip.? The tentative dates would be leaving after school Thursday May 14, 2020, and returning Tuesday May 19, 2020.? If you are interested in being the trip co-leader, please email Melinda Grow at boom5of9 at gmail.com, and if possible attend the boosters meeting tomorrow. We also need a Coconut Grove leader (or co-leaders) for next year.? Part of the planning should happen in May, to secure Emerson for the early March 2020 date.? Please let us know if you can volunteer.? Even though it's only the jazz band that performs, this is a major fundraiser that benefits all the band programs.? Therefore, it would be best if both a jazz band parent, and a symphonic/concert band parent, could volunteer to co-chair.? See you tomorrow!Rob and Cynthia -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
