Tom Peron will be working with students on Jazz Band ensemble literature and concepts, as well as soloing and masterclasses on their instruments. The new location for Watermelon Music (1970 Lake Blvd) is an exceptional facility that is well suited for this camp. The final day, Saturday June 17th, will feature the band performing in concert from 1:00pm to 2:30pm. Members of the 2017-18 DHS Jazz Band: I highly recommend you participate in this new camp. Everyone interested in Jazz should participate in this camp, as it is a great educational opportunity to learn more and have fun playing. Everyone else: This is a wonderful chance to play during the Summer and get some great instruction. Everyone should take every chance they are offered to play, get better, and have fun doing so in our great home of Davis. Mr. Quick, Mrs. Sanchez, and Ms. Tonus: If you could forward my email to your students and their parents, I would be greatly appreciative. Also, Tom Peron would like to contact you at your leisure and come speak about this opportunity to your kids and, perhaps, get a chance to help you with your jazz bands. His email is included in the ?To? line. Questions: Contact Tom Peron at tcjazz3 at gmail.com or Watermelon Music directly. The camp flyer is attached. Many thanks! Please direct any questions to her at conniebelkrd at gmail.com ======================== Victoria trip families: Your student received a packet of very important papers this week. Make sure your student hands over the packet so you can review the details of the trip, get the medical form signed by a doctor, and get forms turned back in no later than 4/21/17. There has been some confusion on the white medical form.Even if your student does not take prescription medications, unless you are a chaperone and will be with your student on the trip, the rules are a doctor must approve the dispensation of over the counter medications to minors on such trips. Please mark which over the counter meds you will allow your student to have, as needed, and get a doctor's signature. You don't need to make an appointment, just fill out the form, sign it, and turn it in to the medical office for review by the doctor. IMPORTANT DATE: On the Tuesday before the trip, ALL STUDENTS must drop off their suitcases and folding music stands between 4-8 pm for loading the truck that will drive instruments, stands, suit cases, trip shirts, snacks, other supplies we need, up to Seattle and on to Victoria. WE WILL NOT BE CHECKING LUGGAGE AT THE AIRPORT. Instructions on what to put in suitcase vs. backpack for first day and a half of the trip are in your packet. Check out your student's cell phone policies sooner rather than later so they understand whether they can call or jus text or not use it at all in Canada. This is important for chaperones to know as well. Contact your credit card or debit card companies to notify them you will be traveling in May and change money to Canadian dollars if you want to save your child the hassle while on the trip. Many meals students are responsible for buying will be in Washington but some meals will be in Canada and any souveniers and such will be from Canada likely. That's it for now folks. Get those packets reviewed and filled out for a smooth start to the trip! Connie & The Victoria Planning Crew -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The ensemble will also showcase our award-winning combos in performance on music by jazz icons Thelonious Monk, Ant?nio Carlos Jobim, Billy Strayhorn , Duke Ellington , Charlie Parker, "Dizzy" Gillespie, Luiz Bonf? , and Clifford Brown. The concert will conclude with guest artist Tom Peron featured on ?Bye Bye Blackbird? (in the style made famous by Miles Davis) and ?Perdido?, as made famous by Duke Ellington ?s band. Teacher and performer Tom Peron has a very successful career, performing with the great pianist Jessica Williams in the 1980?s before forming another successful group with San Francisco drummer Bud Spangler. Since the early 1980?s, Tom Peron and his groups have performed for audiences at the Monterey Jazz Festival, KRML's Jazz Store in Carmel, Yoshi's, Pearl's, Heart & Soul, and the Museum of Modern Art, all in San Francisco. In addition to his busy performance schedule, Tom Peron also teaches at Watermelon Music in Davis and at the University of the Pacific. Phil Elwood, music critic for the *San Francisco Examiner*, has written, "As for trumpeter/composer Peron, one is encouraged to say, 'just listen,' and move on - astonished at his playing, versatility, imagination and technical facility. Master of his horn, with 'good ears,' as Lester Young would have said, Peron has created his own style, his own sound, out of jazz roots. Very few trumpeters out there are Peron's equal, let alone his better," -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... In a week or so, we will start trying to fill in any empty spots in the carpool vehicles and make sure that all students and chaperones have transportation.
