Message-ID: <31E5EEBE70B474419207FB83C01C03031BE71503@FMSMSX110.amr.corp.intel.com> Happy New Year Everyone!! We are off and running in the first days of 2015. Spring Band Trip activities have been picking up, as have other upcoming fundraiser and fun events. We'll have our first DHS Band Booster mtg of 2015 tomorrow (Wednesday) at 7:30pm. There is a Emerson/DaVinci Jr.HS concert that night, so we will either grab the computer room (just inside the band room) or the choir room. There will be notes outside directing people. Also, I have all the CD/DVDs from the December concerts (Jazz Extravaganza and Winter Rhapsody). If you ordered one, please swing by and pick it up. The DVDs of the Victoria Trip are not ready yet. I'll let you know when they are ready. Hope to see you there. Cheers, ~JAH -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Here are the specific details. DHS Pep Band-a-thon Arrive at Emerson JH Commons at 6:30pm. Everyone is responsible for bringing their instruments. We'll help with large brass and percussion instruments. Get your music folders and prepare for rehearsal. 7:00pm. Rehearsal begins. We will rehearse new and old pep band music in preparation for the many performances we will have throughout the Spring. We have some fun music we are adding to our repertoire. 10:00pm. Rehearsal ends and music folder are collected. Everyone is invited to a PIZZA PARTY sponsored by the DHS Band Boosters. 10:30pm. Parents pick up students from Emerson. Load all equipment and return it to DHS. Everyone is invited to attend, whether you plan on playing at Pep Band games this Spring or not. Because this is a rehearsal, all DHS band students will earn 50 extra credit (not "You Choose",...but extra credit that can fill in for any missed point categories) points for their grade. Plan now to attend, have a great time, introduce the 9th graders to our great band program, eat pizza, and earn points! This event is held at Emerson Junior High every year and is composed of a dinner, silent auction, music by various school sponsored and local jazz bands, and a raffle. The event is the primary fundraiser for the DHS Band Boosters and is a linchpin for the various contributions from the Band Boosters to the DHS music program, including the annual band trip. The success of this event happening depends largely upon parent and student volunteers. We invite all parents who are interested in volunteering to help with this event to drop by the Pep Band Play-a-thon at Emerson Junior High School this Friday at 630 for a brief introductory meeting providing background on what help will be needed and the opportunity to sign-up for various activities. We will congregate somewhere off to the side at Emerson for this meeting. If you are interested, please come. This event is a big job but we promise to make it fun and worthwhile. Roster: We are still waiting to hear from about 25 families - we must hear from everyone in a band at DHS to know that your student will or will not be joining us for this amazing event. We want to be sure we have enough space on the busses and in the hotel for everyone that wants to go. If you can no longer find the form sent home in October, please go the booster website in the Spring Trip Section and download the information letter (which has the forms) there. Please fill it out and return it and any installments to the box in the band room or mail it to the PO box listed on the form. www.dhsbandboosters.com Trip dates are: May 15 - 19th. Costs: We are hoping the second recommended pledge installments (another $2000) will all be received by Jan 30th. We will soon be paying for large ticket items like bus and hotel to make the trip happen. Checks should be made out to DHS Band Boosters and can be mailed to DHS Band Boosters Spring Trip PO Box 73522 Davis, CA 95617 Band boosters offers many fund raisers throughout the year to help lower the cost of the trip for everyone. Please support our largest fundraiser of the year coming up on March 7th, Coconut Grove. Remember that we want all students who wish to attend the trip to be able to do so, and band boosters has set aside some extra funds to support those who pledge a different amount than the full cost of the trip/student. The anticipated amount it will cost us for each person attending this trip is about $583. We hope to be able to offer this trip for much less per student based on how much our fundraisers generate this year. We have already done well with our football fundraiser and our pizza fundraisers and are well on our way to lowering the trip price for everyone. The final trip amount to fully fund a student will vary depending on our fundraising success, and will be determined in March after the Coconut Grove proceeds are tallied. Please tell all your friends to attend this fun evening - we need it to sell out! Katie Horn jazzyhorns at aol.com PS: Reminder that there is a Coconut Grove planning meeting TONIGHT (Friday Jan 16) at the Band-a-thon which begins at 6:30 at Emerson Junior High. Costs: We are hoping the second recommended pledge installments (another $200) will all be received by Jan 30th. Message-ID: Hi all, We are fortunate to live in a location where there is access to a number of very fine music camps, including UOP, Cazadero, Silver Lake, Donner Mine, and Stanford to name a few. However, while at the Folsom Jazz Festival last weekend, I found this brochure of a really exciting camp located in Western Washington that you might want to consider. Why, you might ask? Well, it combines a lovely location (at the best time of year to visit) with a phenomenal staff. Located at the decommissioned Fort Warden Army base, this camp is one of the camp that has students from some of the best high school jazz programs in the nation. Perennial Essentially Ellington finalists Garfield High School (Seattle, WA), Roosevelt High School (Seattle, WA), Mt. Si High School (Snoqualmie, WA), and Edmonds-Woodway High School (Edmonds, WA) are involved in this camp that has a very outstanding staff. I hope you consider this camp as another great Summer option for your student.
