We are gladly accepting final pledge payments at this time. We are happy to announce that our fundraising efforts were successful and if everyone honors their pledge, we will have enough funds for the trip at the original projected cost of $550 per student. (Our fundraisers this year allowed us to cover the $11,000 in funds for folks that could not pledge the full amount as well as around $50 for each student going on the trip). As a reminder, those who pledged the full $550, should have already paid a total of $400. Your final amount to meet the full pledge amount is $150 I know it can be hard to remember if you paid each installment, but if you are unsure it would help a lot if you could first check your bank ledger to see if you can determine what you might have paid thus far. (Payments were due 12/8/14 and 1/30/15 so start looking around those dates). With nearly 100 travelers, this will save us quite a bit of work. If you still can't determine your status, please inquire. Thank you to all who have contributed thus far. Please send your final contributions to: DHS Band Boosters Spring Trip PO Box 73522 Davis, CA 95617 Checks should be made out to: DHS Band Boosters Thank you, Katie Horn DHS Band Trip Coordinator -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: The annual Davis High School Jazz Invitational is this coming Thursday, April 16th at the Richard Brunelle Performance Hall, beginning at 7:30pm. There is no admission charge and the concert features the award-winning Davis High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Thomas Slabaugh II, and special guests The Brubeck Institute Jazz Quartet from the University of the Pacific, directed by Patrick Langham. The concert will feature music by Chick Corea, Cedar Walton, Sonny Rollins, as well as compositions by Brubeck Institute fellow Jimmy Kraft. The Davis High School Band will end their set with a performance made famous by the jazz great Buddy Rich, in the Bill Reddie composition Channel One Suite. At the end of the sets, the bands will combine in small combos and play a jam session on great jazz standards. This illustrates the high level of skill, artistry, and communication these students exhibit and work on every day. It is a very enjoyable end to our event. We need to know ASAP who would like a room for Friday night and which parents will be coming. (Since it is so close, payment needs to be made immediately). The official hotel for the jazz festival is Circus Circus and offers room rates of $105/night (which is really good for a large casino hotel). It is about a 15 minute walk to University of Nevada campus where the festival is held. Tom hopes to have carpool groups leave DHS after school on Friday. Below is our actual commitments for the festival: Performance Date: Saturday, April 25, 2015 Warm-Up Time: 10:15 AM Performance Time: 10:45 AM Feedback Time: 11:15 AM PLEASE decide now, if you plan to stay for Friday night and would like a room in our group reservation. I will collect payment tomorrow night at the Jazz Concert so bring checkbooks! If we don't get enough responses to make the call by tomorrow, then we will just let folks make their own reservations and plans. SO please respond to this email ASAP with the following info: 1. Yes/No my student will be leaving with the group after school on Friday 4/24 and needs a room for Friday night 2. I will/will not be coming to the event and can be listed as a chaperone 3. I can carpool a group up on Friday and/or back on Saturday after the event. (# of students that you can drive) 4. If yes to #2 or #3, please indicate the number of rooms you personally would like for the group reservation (aside from the room your student is in with 3 other jazz band kids) Please plan to find me at the Jazz Concert tomorrow to pay for the rooms. Again, if I don't have a good feeling of the number of kids going up on Friday by tomorrow, we won't be able to secure a group reservation but you will be able to still attend the festival and get a room for your family on your own should you want that. As Tom's note said, we will decide once we arrive if we are going to the evening Jazz concert or just out to dinner on Friday evening - it will depend on our arrival time (traffic) and stomach input at that time. We will be in cell phone contact once we are in Truckee (about 30 min from Reno) and make the decision at that point. For those meeting at DHS on Friday afternoon - be sure to exchange cell phone numbers so we can chat with someone in the car as we approach Truckee. It would be nice to check into the hotel if we are not trying to make that evening concert..... Hotel for the group is Circus Circus. It's pretty easy to find this place....just look for a big pink thing with a gazillion lights and a monorail tram driving overhead near the main Reno strip.... Circus Circus Hotel & Casino Reno 500 N Sierra St, Reno, NV, 89503, US Phone Number : 844-866-7937 Please plan to bring a check or cash to pay for the rooms and give to Katie Horn this weekend as they are already paid for. Student price: $32 per person Adult price: $128 per room Other funds needed: Breakfast buffet at the hotel (8 - 10 a.m.) $10 pp Dinner Fri/Lunch Sat Spending $$ for Midway Games if desired If going to the show Fri night, entrance fee for that $18 per student Note: Snow is expected over Donner Pass on Fri and Sat with highs in the 30's and 40's and lows in the 20's. In Reno where it is more protected it should be fair weather with highs in the mid to high 50's. I suspect we will do a fair amount of walking on Friday evening and it will be much cooler than Davis. Plan accordingly. Dinner options at Circus Circus include: A Mexican restaurant (price range $8 - $15) An American Grill - similar to a Denny's sort of fare (price range $8 - $15) A Steak House (no idea but I'm sure more pricey) An international dinner buffet ($18 pp) It's going to be a great weekend! Forms can be turned into the box in the band room. I know it can be difficult to get the physician signature for all meds your child may take during the trip, but it is DJUSD policy and there is just no way around that. Note: If your child will not be taking any meds, just write that at the top of the med form and return it to us. No physician signature required for that obviously! Also, you may be able to get this task done quickly via fax with the doctor's office without having to go there. Worked for our family, so perhaps it will for yours as well. It is very important to turn these forms in as soon as possible as Mr. Slabaugh must get these processed a few weeks before the trip and we need time to review them to be sure we have all the important emergency information. No student will be allowed on the trip without all forms completed in advance. Extra copies are available in the band room if your's seems to have gone missing. Please attend to this right away! Final pledge payments are also greatly appreciated as we have paid most of the bills and boosters could really use the pledged funds to get out of the "red" zone! If you pledged the full amount for your student the cost is $550. Checks can be made out to DHS Band Boosters and either included with the trip forms or mailed to the band booster PO Box ( PO Box 73522, Davis, Ca 95617). The trip is just 16 days away!! I will be going to San Diego on the band field trip as the medical chaperone. If your child has any medical issues you would like me to know about (food allergies, chronic illness, special medications, or any special circumstances), please feel free to email me directly at my home: elwong at comcast.net. You can also text me information on my cell phone: 916-223-6360. If there is anything you wish to discuss with me personally, please feel free to call my cell phone, and I will call you back. District rules disallow me from checking the medical information in the district packets, and Mr. Slabaugh must be in charge of the medications. However, I will be available to your children during the entire trip. I would be happy to speak to any parent prior to the trip about any medical issue concerning their child. Thank you very much, Yvonne Otani Yvonne Otani, MD Chief of Outpatient Pediatrics, North Valley 1955 Cowell Blvd. Davis, CA 95618 office (530) 757-3913 cell (916) 223-6360 www.kp.org/mydoctor/yvonneotani NOTICE TO RECIPIENT: If you are not the intended recipient of this e-mail, you are prohibited from sharing, copying, or otherwise using or disclosing its contents.
