Yes, Music Lovers, we are celebrating May's sunshiney arrival!

So you should add to your special must-attend May events, the ThursdayLive! May 2nd concert, 7:30 pm, at 415-2nd featuring our homegrown jammers theHoney Badgers and West of Next, a group appearing for the first time at ThursdayLive!

And there's no need to find a May Pole to dance around, because--between the Honey Badgers and West of Next--you'll be able to dance your sweet little pagan Mayday hearts out upstairs at 415-2nd.

Our concert headliners, the popular Honey Badgers, are a group of musicians who are all affiliated with Watermelon Music.  They play a mix of Blues-based music including Rhythm and Blues.  Jeff Simons, co-owner of Watermelon Music, commands bass and vocals;  Ron Cowden, also a co-owner of Watermelon Music, cuts loose on guitar and vocals; Leo Adamian rips on drums and not surprisingly manages the drum department at Watermelon Music; Scott Morris holds forth on guitar and vocals and is a guitar instructor at Watermelon Music.

West of Next, this concert's opening group, was described in the Sacramento Bee as "...highly recommended to the discriminating listener.  No gimmicks.  A surf bop journey through the musical heart of the United States." At their ThursdayLive! debut performance, you can expect West of Next to play wide-ranging musical forms from Appalachian ballads to Blues, Zydeco, Western Swing and Honky Tonk.  And all their fresh songs and instrumentals have been arranged from a jazz musician's point of view.

That jazz musician is David Shapireau, a highly experienced arranger-guitarist who shares the "twin guitar sound" in West of Next with Steve Randall, a musician voted Best Guitarist in Sacramento News and Reviews. Paul Knutsen holds down the bass position in West of Next, while Tony Dey  on drums rounds out this quartet.

And don't forget:  all ThursdayLive! concerts are free, family-friendly, and wheelchair accessible.  Drinks on sale range from soft to beer and wine.  Shows begin at 7:30 pm and, until closing at approximately 10:00 pm, attendees can come and leave as they choose.  All ages are welcome, and donations for worthy causes--including the featured musicians--are always appreciated.

This first-Thursday-of-the month music series, held in the upstairs hall at 415-2nd in Davis, is faithfully sponsored by the Davis Odd Fellows Music Committee and KDRT, Davis' finest FM radio station.

So dust off your dancing shoes and prepare to cut one rug after another on Thursday, May 2nd starting 7:30 pm.
