Timing is brilliant! Have fun, ~JAH Hi all, This morning we were told that the IPAB/VET's parking lot will be additionally closed for the for the week of 5/18-5/24. Basically, after 5/18 don't plan on it being usable until mid July. Thanks, Kathy ________________________________ Hi all, We have recently learned that the large parking lot between the High School and the Vet's Center will have the solar panel installation started earlier than anticipated. This means that for some of your performances there will be limited access to the parking lot, and for some, the lot will be closed altogether. I have included the timeline below, but you will definitely need to give special instructions to your students and parents about their parking and access options. It seems the stadium parking area will be open to everyone AFTER school hours and the district is looking into alternative options for people. (I wouldn't count on these being for non-school hours, but at least you aren't fighting angry high school drivers.) Let me know what I can do to help you as you think about how to adjust to this. (Signboard pointing the audience towards the building?) Here is the plan as it stands: May 3-14th minor construction work in which some sections of lot will be cordoned off May 17th Tree mourning ceremony (am) students/faculty are invited May 18th the full start of the project May 24-29th full shut down (Marc Hicks will work with the Davis police cadets and community resources to only let faculty and staff into and park in the stadium lot) June 1-5th pour concrete- total shut down (Marc Hicks will work with the Davis police cadets and community resources to only let faculty and staff into and park in the stadium lot)June 7 and 8th no construction (last day of school and graduation) June 9th-July 13th total shut down Best of luck, Kathy Peter Performing Arts Facilities Coordinator Davis Joint Unified School District 530-757-5357 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... DHS bands present special concert and reception to honor Fred Lange's retirement The annual Davis High School Bands' Senior Concert, which traditionally honors the accomplishments of graduating seniors, will have special meaning this year as it will also include a celebration of the distinguished career of director Fredrick Lange, and will be his last concert as conductor of the Symphonic Band. The concert will be Monday May 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Brunelle Performing Arts Theater, on the Davis High School campus at 315 W. 14th Street. The Symphonic Band will perform several numbers, including music from Schindler's List, featuring a violin solo by DHS orchestra conductor Angelo Moreno. The full combined band, which includes members of the Symphonic Band, Concert Band and Jazz Band, will perform some selections from the recent band trip to San Diego, where the group played on the deck of the Midway. The concert will be followed by a reception in the adjacent Veteran's Memorial Center, in honor of band director Fred Lange, who is retiring at the end of this school year after many years at the helm of the award-winning band program at the high school. The concert and reception are offered free of charge and the public is invited to enjoy the music of the bands and to say thank you to Lange for his many contributions to music education at the high school as well as in the elementary music program. Mr. Lange's final concert at Davis High School, "Jazz On A Summer's Eve", will be coming up on Friday June 1, 7:30 pm, at the Brunelle Performing Arts Theater. On that evening, the Jazz Band performance will include an original piece of music commissioned by the DHS Band Boosters (with partial financial support from the Davis School Arts Foundation) for this occasion by composer/arranger Eric Richards of the University of Nebraska - Lincoln School of Music. Richards will perform with the Jazz Band, with Fred Lange at the podium at the concert. Pacific Daylight Time Subj: [DHS-Orchestras] Remembering Christopher Winter Whitmore Orchestra Students and Families, It is a very sad hour that I bring you the news that our alumni DHS Symphony Bassist Christopher Whitmore, class of 2010-11, has passed away after battling cancer for the past two years. Chris was an amazing young man, so smart, incredibly musically talented, kind to all and friend to so many. Music was a big part of his life and played a big role in comforting him in his final days. Chris, along with many other alumni of the orchestra program came to visit at the Winter Concert and joined the Symphony for Sleigh Ride. It was visibly clear at that time that he was functioning and feeling stronger but his condition took a turn for the worse and doctors announced in March that he only had a short time left. Now is a time to remember Chris and the positive impact he made in our lives. Seeing him at the Winter concert this past December on stage was amazing and I will always remember him that way. Proudly standing with his bass section, eyes on me, waiting for his moment to shine with his friends on stage. I pray for his family, I know he is in a better place tonight. Now kids hug your parents and parents hug your kids and tell each other how much you love each other, Life is a fragile thing, enjoy everyday and make a positive impact on others around you, -Mr. Moreno With heavy hearts, we write to tell you our beloved son, Christopher Winter Whitmore, passed away on Sunday. When we can, we will set a date to bring us together to remember Chris and to see one another. We will post on our CaringBridge website (http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/christopherwhitmore) when we have things worked out. Thank you for your companionship and your care for Chris, for Nathan and for us on this long journey. Please share this news with others you think would want to know. A special treat for the audience will be the premier performance of an original jazz composition commissioned in honor of Lange and composed by noted jazz composer/arranger Eric Richards of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Music. Richards will perform at the concert with the Jazz Band, with Lange at the podium. The commission was arranged by members of the DHS Band Boosters, to provide a lasting tribute to the contributions Lange has made to music education. A grant from the Davis School Arts foundation provided partial support for the commission and for clinics that Richards will conduct with the Davis High bands during his visit. The Davis Senior High School Jazz Band recently returned from a set of performances at the French Quarter Jazz Festival in New Orleans. Band Booster president John Horn, who accompanied the group, reported that the trip was a big success. One group of professional jazz musicians heard the band playing and came to investigate, thinking it was another professional group. ?They were blown away when they saw it was our high school Jazz Band!? he commented. The public is invited to enjoy the concert free of charge, and to convey their thanks to Fred Lange for bringing many years of music to our schools and community. Audience members who wish to support the high school band program or to contribute to music scholarships in Lange?s honor can leave a donation in the lobby area. Please allow extra time for parking, as much of the main lot near Brunelle Performance Hall will be closed for a construction project. We are currently in need of someone to help out with the truck for the instruments for tomorrow's concert. Our current driver plans fell through over the weekend, and we are looking for an alternative. The plan: 11:00 - Pick up the rental truck 11:30 - Load truck with instruments, chairs & stands. 12:15 - Leave band room and store locked truck at your house (in shade). 4:45 - Arrive at downtown Central Park for truck unload of the items for the concert. 7:30 - (or when the concert is over) - pack truck and bring back to band room. The students will help pack & unpack the truck. We just need a driver who is available during these times. Please let me know if you can help.
