A significant portion of the music program (along with other programs) has secure funding for the next 5 years. Thank you all very much for your support and patience, and for getting the word out to parents and families about the connection between the future of the music program and the passage of this measure. Measure C covers $6.5 million of the district budget. As most of you are aware, there is still a $3.5 million deficit that the district must close to balance the budget for next year. There is a PKS list (pink slip list) to cover those positions that can be viewed here: https://davis.csbaagendaonline.net/cgi-bin/WebObjects/davis-eAgenda.woa/files/MTMzMTEwMjk2MzI2Ny9kYXZpc2VBZ2VuZGEvOTkyLzUwMjEvRmlsZXM=/draft_feb_16__2012_certificated_pks_resolution_no._45-12_doc__2_.pdf Music is affected by a .6 FTE cut, which is expected to occur from consolidating some JH music classes. For music, this is a relatively minimal cut compared to other positions. If enrollments are strong enough, it is possible that not all the cuts would happen. I'm not 100% certain, but it also appears likely that no music teacher will be pink slipped, in part because Fred Lange plans to retire at the end of this school year. I don't know what plans (DSF fundraising, or any employee concessions) there are to mitigate the overall cuts at this point, but if I learn anything, I'll let you know Please remember to thank the parent community for their support of Measure C. March 31st at Stonegate Country Club ( 919 Lake Blvd.) is the Jazz Choir /Jazz Band pre New Orleans Trip Party. 6 - 8 p.m. Potluck - bring anything - main dish , side or dessert. We may be eating all brownies if we aren't creative here! If you have any New Orlean's dishes you can make, so much the better :) ALL FOLKS going on the trip are highly encouraged to attend. That is kids and adults. Hopefully we can chat amongst the jazz band parents and review the trip logistics a bit, and strategies for how to watch the students during the adventure. We need to load the equipment into boxes, weigh them and return them to the band room, etc. If everyone helps a little, no one will need to do a lot! See you there Mr Lange PS - If you see a drummer please tell them about the above in case they don't see this email. The final budget has been set for the San Diego trip and we were able to significantly reduce the cost per student while including most meals on the trip! Fundraisers this year have gone well which have enabled Band Boosters to contribute quite a bit toward reducing the cost for every student. The final cost per student for the San Diego trip is $460. (That is $65 less than the last time the band took this trip 3 yrs ago!) John is still working on updating all the fundraising info and individual contributions thus far - and will be sending out individualized emails as soon as he can to let you know what to do next. Also as a reminder, the trip forms are due NOW, so please turn those into the band room forms box if you haven't already done so. And finally, if you can help on departure day, Thursday April 26th, there will be various jobs for the morning up until we actually load the busses and drive off at lunchtime. If you can help, please send an email to Lynne Rumery who is coordinating that effort at: _lynnerumery at gmail.com_ (mailto:lynnerumery at gmail.com) Katie Horn -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
