Why should the students have all the fun???? Parents we need you to join in the Playathon fun by signing up to volunteer, play in the band or conduct during family/friends/alumni hour. Whether you have time to help a lot or a little, we could use your assistance to make this event a success. Playathon will take place this year beginning at 7:00 p.m. Friday Jan 20 at the Emerson Junior High Commons with desserts for families and a chance to participate in a "classic" cake-walk while you listen to the combined bands play with family, friends and guest conductors. After families leave, students will remain overnight (with chaperones) to participate in music sight-reading/rehearsal, musical activities and time to eat, dance and relax with their friends. Collecting pledges from extended family, neighbors and friends is a great motivator to participate all night....and it helps defray the costs of the upcoming combined band trip to San Diego and/or the Jazz Band trip to New Orleans. (Pledge forms were sent out just before Christmas on the list serve and copies will be sent home with students in a few days). But even without pledges, this is a great opportunity for the students to have fun with music and get to know all the students in the bands.
If you would like to help, to bring baked goods or sign up to play or conduct, please visit this site at Sign-up Genius www.SignUpGenius.com/go/70A0848AAAB2F4-playathon<http://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0848AAAB2F4-playathon>
or contact Jeanette Vance at dhsbbpublicity at gmail.com<mailto:dhsbbpublicity at gmail.com> . If you would like to be in on the planning or want to find out more information, please stay for the short meeting at 8:15 following the Band Boosters meeting tonight (Wednesday) at the band room PA-3. We could especially use parents of sophomores and juniors to help with planning to learn the ropes for future years.
