So jot this info down for now , but know that with 2 months left to go they could very well change again.... 4/10 Depart Sacto (SMF) flight #253 1:43 p.m., arrive Denver (DEN) 5:04 p.m. Depart Denver flight #947 at 7:43 p.m. and arrive in New Orleans (MSY) at 11:16 p.m. Basically we leave Sac about 50 min. earlier and arrive in New Orleans about 10 min. later than before. Return info: 4/15 Leave MSY flight #630 at 3:32 pm, arrive DEN 5:26 p.m. Depart DEN #375 6:55 p.m. and arrive SMF 8:34 p.m. Basically we leave New Orleans 40 min. later - which is really great as we were pretty rushed as it was and now will have more time for the church concert and lunch there. We get home to Sac about 30 min. later but still not too late. So all in all these aren't catastrophic changes, and one of them actually helps us out. Phew! Sheila Allen is putting this together with more details (like all of the details) to come soon. Still, I thought I would get the word out to save the date for the event, since I don't think most had it on their calendars yet. She has reserved a spot for this event on Sat. March 31st, in the early evening time frame. It may also serve as a trip information meeting for all attending. I'm not involved in the planning, so don't really know much - but will make sure info gets out to all as it becomes available. For now, mark it on your calendars. I don?t have an exact cost yet, but it is anticipated to be around $1200 for the entire trip. Some people are traveling separately due to college visits and other reasons. I will have the breakout of the non-air version of the trip shortly. With initial airline & hotel payments already made, we need to start collecting moneys for the trip. It looks like it is going to be a pretty neat trip. We have a variety of gigs lined up, Master?s Classes at University of New Orleans, Swamp Tour, Ghost Tour of the French Quarter at night, Cemetery tour, a Great Party and other fun events. Things are coming together really nicely - the trip tee shirt design contest is underway, and kids will be signing up for hotel roommates (groups of 5) and busses in early March. And costs keep getting better and better - almost have a firm trip cost set, but we are likely going to be spending LESS on this trip than the band did 3 years ago when we took the same trip! While most trip jobs are covered there is one really important job we still need help with. This is a simple job that can be done by any adult, whether you are going along on the trip or not. We are in desperate need of a parent to help organize the Departure Day events. On the day we leave, kids will bring their luggage to school and check in before classes in the morning. Parent volunteers will check off lists to ensure each student has checked in their suitcase, instrument etc, and then watch over the area until our busses arrive and are loaded. They will also ask to be sure students have important items such as bag lunch, collapsible music stands etc...and if not, this will give the students time to round up missing items before we leave. We need one or 2 parents to coordinate this important day, and then another handful to help check the kids in throughout the morning. PLEASE, if you have a little time to help put this together in April, let me know. While this job comes and goes in a short period of time, we cannot safely organize the kids and their belongings without someone in charge making it happen. Just let me know by phone or email if you can help. THANK YOU!! Fortunately, everything is within 5 or 10 min. of our last flights, so not a big deal. Just keeps getting better for our tight return from New Orleans as now we have an additional 4 minutes to get to the airport after our concert/lunch on Sunday :) For those interested in the details here is the latest info: 4/10 Depart SMF flight #332 at 1:53 p.m., land in ORD (Chicago) 7:51 p.m., connect to flight #502 which departs at 8:58 p.m. and arrives MSY at 11:20 p.m. 4/15: Depart MSY flight # 630 at 3:36 p.m., land in DEN 5:30 p.m., connect to flight #375 departing at 6:55 p.m. and return to SMF at 8:34 p.m. Also, I need to submit full legal names and birth dates of all travelers (ADULTS and KIDS) going on the trip this week. If you went to Canada I likely have that info from last year. If you know your child didn't go on the Victoria Band Trip last year, please feel free to send that info ASAP. All parents going on this trip please also send me the info as listed below. Thanks. Last Name, First Name, Middle Name, Birthdate, Also, when we travel, all kids will need to bring government ID with them if over 18, (Driver's license. If they are over 18 and don't have a DL, then an official DMV ID card or birth certificate will be needed). If under 18, still bring a DL if possible, or school ID otherwise. It's gonna be great! Katie PS: Don't forget to RSVP to Sheila Allen about the Jazz Band/Jazz Choir potluck on Sat. March 31st at Stonegate. We are hoping all travelers will attend, and hopefully it will be a good time for all the adults going on the trip to gather and talk about specific details of the trip. Many folks are traveling separately from the band, and so there are some special logistics to figure out. See you there! -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... If performers would like to purchase a full dinner for $10, they should send in a reservation form prior to the event , indicate that they are paying the performer's price for a meal only, and ask for their meal ticket when they check-in. Reservation forms are available at http://groups.dcn.org/dhsbandboosters/an-evening-at-coconut-grove . However, there is no admission charge for performers to stay and listen to other groups. Upon arrival, performers should proceed to the band room on the far side of the Indoor Commons to get their instruments ready and leave their cases. Please note that space limitations in the Indoor Commons will make it difficult to allow spectators (family, friends) to enter to watch individual performances without a reservation for the fundraiser. Families and friends are, of course, encouraged to order tickets and join us for a great evening! Thanks for sharing your talents! Jeanette N. Vance Publicity Chair, DHS Band Boosters Jeanette E. Wednesday February 29, 7:00 p.m. Three great band programs, one great concert too good to miss! ?The Festivity of Bands? concert will feature performances by the music programs at Davis High School (Symphonic Band), CSU Sacramento (Symphonic Wind Ensemble), and UC Davis (Concert Band and Campus Band) on the stage at Jackson Hall at the Mondavi Center on Wednesday February 29, 7:00 p.m. The concert will honor Fred Lange, who will be retiring at the end of this year after an illustrious career as director of bands at Davis Senior High. Mr. Lange will conduct the exciting finale, ?Legacy? by Julie Giroux, which will be performed by all of the participating musicians playing together as one unforgettable group. This selection reflects the legacy that Fred leaves in the students that he has taught over the years, the musical memories that he has generated for everyone that has been part of one of his bands, and the quality of the band program that he has built at Davis High. Let's fill the concert hall for this event. See the attached flyer for more details. Here is information from Pete Nowlen, the UCD Concert Band director, (via Mr. Lange) about obtaining reduced price tickets for the event online: You may get tickets through the internet by following the directions > from Mr. Nowlen given below: > > $5 tickets (please try to limit to a few per performer -- but we > don't have an official way of doing that) can be purchased at the > Mondavi website by entering MOZART in the promo code window -- upper > right. It will indicate that they are student tickets, but as this > is the easiest way for us to distribute discounted tickets, Mondavi > staff will be instructed to accept them from all who present them > (no ID required). This also results in waiving of the processing fee. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
