Message-ID: <5F3B7605B964B346A6658663BDDA5D5B016FB67A3E@rrsmsx505.amr.corp.intel.com> All, I am looking for someone to help run the Picnic Day Parking lot at the District Lot down town. The lot is across the street from the Newman Center Church, 5th & C. What is involved: On Picnic Day, Saturday April 16, getting over there between 5:00 and 5:30 am to block off the exit (with cones or something) and setting up with your morning java and newspaper and accepting contributions from those who are looking for a good Picnic Day parking place. You need to get a couple of signs made, which state that this parking lot is Event Parking for Picnic Day, $10, and benefits the Davis High School Band program. I would expect that you only need to be there from about 5:00 am to 8 or 9:00 am. By then the lot should be full. If one or a couple of you are interested in doing that, please let me know. This is a really easy way to make a couple of hundred bucks for the band. Thanks much, ~JAH -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We will be doing A LOT of walking on this trip, so comfortable, broken in shoes are essential. Our hotel is conveniently located in downtown Victoria, which means we can walk to nearly everything, including our performances. We will hire busses for just 2 excursions during our stay there. So they should be thinking of what shoes they can comfortably walk and walk in. And if they intend to bring new shoes on this trip then be sure they have enough time to break them in a little before the trip so they are really comfy by the time we depart. Message-ID: <941A32389FA8E54B9DF77C28A71ABA18099871BAD5@virago.ocp.ucdavis.edu> Davis High School has been chosen by the Grammy Foundation (connected to the organization who gives out the professional music awards each year) to be a GRAMMY Signature School of 2011! This means that it was chosen as one of the top 5-6 high schools in the U.S. for its strong music program. Although the award is directly to the DHS Music Department, the award really represents the dedication and talent at all levels that support the high school program. DHS was chosen based on the number of students who participate in music, the breadth of the program, and its participation in events locally, regionally and statewide. After making an initial first round cut, the DHS Music Department was invited to submit recorded excerpt selections from its choirs, bands and orchestras to compare against other HS programs. The DHS Music Dept. will receive a plaque, certificate, and a cash award. A formal presentation may be made at a May school board meeting. This is the second time that DHS has received this award. The first time was in 2007. This recent award is a reminder of how fortunate we are to live in a community that offers such opportunities and support for music in our schools. Thanks to all the students, the music teachers, and the dedicated parents! Hiram Jackson DSOMA President -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We have our Spring Band Trip to Victoria, Canada coming up as well. The day after we get back from Victoria, is the Picnic & Pops in the Park Concert in Central Park, downtown-Central Park, May 25th (This is a NEW DATE). We have chairs for the musicians showing up around 4:00 pm at Central Park. This is the latest that Davis Rent All Center will deliver, since they close at 5:00 pm. Our concert is at 6:00 pm and we need one or a couple of people to sit relax, read a book, and watch over the chairs until the setup crew arrives. This will probably be about 1 ? hours. Please let me know if you can make yourself available to help out with this easy item to help the band. :) Any offers would be greatly appreciated. I would prefer not to ask any of the chaperones that were just on the trip for the past 5 days. Deadline for Measure A ballots is April 30 if you're returning by mail. Or by May 3rd if you physically drop your ballot in the ballot box at the Davis Public Library or at the County Elections Office in Woodland. If you haven't yet turned in your ballot and plan to, then it is in an envelope that looks like this: [cid:image001.jpg at 01CC04FB.003DE320] The current proposed school budget for the 2011-12 school year calls for reducing the JH music program by about 11 classes, or about half of the JH music program. This would come about by reducing the 7th and 8th grade schedule to 6 periods. It likely means that not all 7th and 8th graders would be accommodated in the music program as has happened in the past. If Measure A passes, its funds would secure 7th period for 7th and 8th grade (including the music classes) for the two years of its duration. There are cuts to other programs proposed in the current draft budget that may also be funded if Measure A passes. Here is some further information about Measure A: http://www.djusd.net/district/measa/measa#frequently-asked-questions-about If you have any questions, please contact me.
