And thank you to everyone who signed up to help with various activities. We would like to get a response from EVERYBODY, please. So, please fill in and return the attached sheet (either by email to me or US Mail with the address on the top of the form. Sign up for as many items as you would like to help with. Thank you much!! Stage Crew Coordinator - Helping to make sure that the stage is set up correctly for the band concerts. 3. Pep Band Coordinator - coordinate volunteers to ensure we have adult coverage at the games that the pep band plays for. 4. Coconut Grove Coordinator - Runs the committee mtgs and gets everything together. There are already several people interested in being Asst Coord, so lots of help coming. 5. In the past, we have done the Delta Jazz Festival in Stockton, the Sac State Jazz Festival, the Folsom High Jazz Festival, the Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival, the Reno Jazz Festival, and the Fullerton College Jazz Festival (in Anaheim). RELAX ... Under no circumstances do I expect to do all of these. The first festival that we have traditionally attended is the Delta Jazz Festival in Stockton. The date for this is December 4. I would normally just take the plunge and sign up for this, but last year we encountered some very difficult driving conditions (fog), the result of which was that one of the parents driving was involved in a BIG auto accident and ... well, you know this story. Weather is weather and cannot be predicted - I know some of you were very shaken by this last year (as was I). There is another Jazz Festival in December 11 at Sac State, however I believe this conflicts with the Junior Prom. We would not do both!!!! I believe the Delta Festival to be a bit better (educationally) and would prefer to do this one but I want your support for this (considering the fog might, again, be a hinderance to our participation.) My Question: Do I have your support for participating in the Delta Jazz Festival in Stockton on December 4? I must submit the applications this coming week. If you feel strongly either way, please let me know. If I do not hear from you by Monday, Sept. 13 I will assume that you are fine with any decision I make. Great news - As of last week, our bands have been formally invited to perform in Victoria B.C. this spring, so we can officially begin planning the band trip! We will form a trip committee and meet monthly until our departure in late May. The meeting day will vary from month to month since many of us have standing commitments on one day or another. They will most always be on a weeknight after dinner. The group will plan everything from performances, activities, travel logistics, meals etc. Some jobs have already started, with folks securing hotel and air reservations already for the group, while other jobs might not need any attention until winter, or perhaps just a few days before departure. Even if you just want to be a part of the planning and share your ideas that is fine. We will solicit volunteer chaperones from the trip committee members first, and then from the general band boosters if additional volunteers are needed. So many decisions will be made during the coming months, that we value any input we can get from parents and the students. We will have a student representative that will attend the meetings as well, and who will gather input from the kids about what they want for their trip. Please consider joining us for the trip meetings as we put together another fabulous trip for the kids. First Band Trip Planning Meeting: Wed. EVERYONE has the opportunity to earn money toward the costs of the Spring Band Trip to Victoria, Canada. It is easy! Just sell Raffle tickets and earn money that will be allocated to help offset the cost of your trip. One ticket is $5, or you can sell 5 tickets for $20. Many students earned significant amounts toward their trip costs last year, and you can do the same this year. Just pick up a set of tickets (you can determine how many you would like to try to sell) at one of the times listed below. Sell those tickets to family, friends, neighbors, or anyone that wants to help support the DHS Bands. Ideally, you should try to sell or purchase all the tickets you take, realizing that it will help defray your student's band trip costs and you have a chance of winning something!! Then return the money and any unsold tickets BEFORE the Oct 9th Davis Jazz Festival. All money and unused tickets need to be returned before the Oct 9th drawing, in order to be eligible for the drawings. Some of the prizes that are being raffled off are: A Tahoe Cabin Vacation Weekend, iPod Nano 6th Generation, Davis Athletic Club 3 month membership, Tabletop Gas Grill, various food & entertainment opportunities. Come and be part of the fun!! Julie Hochman is heading up the effort to get these tickets out to students/families that want to help sell them. Lynne Rumery will be helping to sell tickets at the Farmer's Market events. Tickets can be picked up at the following times & locations: Tuesday Sept 28th (during Pep Band Drop off) from 7:15 pm to 7:45 pm - near the Veteran's Memorial Theater (across the parking lot from the IPAB. Note that we can not distribute these on school property. Saturday Oct 2nd at Farmer's Market in Central Park from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm Sunday Oct 3rd at the Worlds Greatest Bike Parade in Central Park from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm Saturday Oct 9th at Farmer's Market in Central Park from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm You can also contact Julie at cellomama1222 at aol.com or at 758-5577 or 400-4878 if a Band Family needs to make other raffle ticket pick-up arrangements. And yes, those are fine too (I just learned about these,so they were not in my original document posted to the web page). They are a bit cheaper than a passport, but only good for travel by land or sea into and out of Canada, Mexico, Bermuda (and the Caribbean I think?). Note, if you think your child might use this documentation at any other time over the next 5 years (or 10 years if over the age of 16) you might consider the full passport. Even if they travel back to these destinations, if entered by AIR, the passport card will not work. For this band trip however, we are definitely entering Canada by Land or Sea, so the passport card will work. Below is a list copied from the ferry website, about required documentation for anyone. You will see a few additional things listed here which are not included on our list, since our list is the school groups list, but since we will have a variety of chaperones with us, there, may be useful info below for them. Please refer to the list of options for travel documents on the band web page for the requirements for students traveling with the group U.S and Canadian Citizens Only *Valid Passport *U.S. Passport Cards *Trusted traveller cards (NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST cards) *Enhanced Driver Licence *Enhance identification card (for example: enhanced Tribal cards, if available) *U.S. Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) *U.S. Military Identification with military travel orders *U.S. Merchant Mariner Document with official maritime business For non U.S. or non Canadian citizens *Valid Passport -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Note: Another option for obtaining passports came from a band parent, and may be helpful if you work on campus: Passports Note that on the first floor of the ARC on the UC Davis campus, in the Business Center (no ARC pass required to enter this part of the building), you can now apply for passports, typical hours Monday-Friday 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday (_Passport Services Only_ (http://campusrecreation.ucdavis.edu/cms/internal.aspx?uid=04c6dd03-ae39-4db7-bac8-284 70103502a) ) 1-4 p.m. For prices, procedure, and more info, visit http://campusrecreation.ucdavis.edu/cms/internal.aspx?uid=04c6dd03-ae39-4db7-bac8-28470103502a.
